31. WWII still fresh
Albert Levin ,   Buenos Aires ARG   (10.01.11)
Angela, keep mouth closed until year 4000
32. "Raised doubts" ?
Robert ,   Australia   (10.01.11)
It's never been beyond doubt that Israel has no intention whatsoever to negotiate in good faith. Israel wants its pound of flesh and more.
33. another false friend
Yanni   (10.01.11)
We know what Europeans are, you cannot trust them further than you can throw them.
34. We never agreed to the plan
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (10.01.11)
The Arabs already rejected the plan, so why should be held to a plan that we were neither consulted or agreed to? This is our land and we will do whatever we want on our own land. Germany, nor EU, nor America, nor even the UN has any say on the matter.
35. Another German Chancellor telling Jews where they may live
Tuvea ,   Chicago, Illinois US   (10.01.11)
What is it about Supreme German Leaders that they feel they have the right to tell Jewish where they may or may not live?
36. 50,000 people is not an enclave, it's a city.
Steven A. ,   Bay Area, USA   (10.01.11)
37. why should Israel listen to those who were slaughtering us?
usa   (10.01.11)
England, Germany, Russia what did these countries ever did for Jews other than slaughter and anhialate and they have the nerve to continue telling us what to do. Forget them.
38. Time for sanctions against Israel, not words of appeasement
Marcus Silverman   (10.01.11)
Maybe if Angela feels so strongly about the continuation of the illegal occupation and settlement expansion, then Germany should impose sanctions on Israel until it complies with International Law - anything else is total hypocrisy, and consistent with the American position of sycophancy and appeasement.
39. looks like those euro-swindlers are again trying to
bernard ross ,   st anns bay, jamaica   (10.01.11)
swindle the jews out of jewish land. I blame israeli leaders for not standing firm and being clear that it is all jewish land and it is only in the event of a negotiated settlement that any of the land might be given for the sake of peace and that without an agreement all of the west bank will be built on. Bibi had it right when he said that the land of Israel will not wait on peace with the arabs to grow, he should have stuck with that. Once all these swindlers think that you are willing to give it up they all want to steal it from you as in the past. Those euro swindlers must not confuse being willing to sacrifice for a peace agreement with any notion that it does not belong to the Jews.
40. Rights and Wrong
David ,   Houston, tX   (10.01.11)
Israel has every right to build in Gilo, which by all accounts will remain part of Israel under any deal. The Israeli government is wrong however and just plain stupid to do it now. It's like approving settlements with VP Joe Biden was in Israel. What's the point? Bad politics and bad policy decisions.
41. To #6
Abba ,   USA   (10.01.11)
You summed it up beautifully and perfectly!
42. GILO IS NOT A SETTLEMENT
moron ,   galut   (10.01.11)
keep builing because pals have rejected oslo anyway
43. #32 Robert
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (10.01.11)
No Robert, Israel does not want its pound of flesh, Israel wants its security. Gilo is an integral part of our capital city Jerusalem, of which we will never cede one inch to the Palis. Why should we? Because they whine and winge to the international community? Does that make it right? They have no more claim on any part of Jerusalem than you do. All Netanyahu wants is for Abbas to come to the negotiating table without any preconditions. But Abbas is making conditions even before agreeing. Well we've 'been there, done that' with the 10-month construction freeze in Judea and Samaria that Abbas requested. After 9 months, Abbas moved the goal posts. He will keep on doing so and we are not going to put up with that. You down under there, have no idea of the conception of 'security', do you? You have no idea what it means to live with almost daily rocket fire, suicide bombers, the blood libel andhatred that are the Palis' daily diet. Yes, Israel targets the Palis - specific targets when we know who the perpetators are. We do not just fire indiscriminately on women, children, schools, hospitals, all of which the Palis have done even to their own people. In fact when the palis start shooting from Gaza, they usually time it for around 7.30 a.m., when kids are going to school and kindergarten. They target - indiscriminately - Ashkelon and Ashdod, including the ery power station that suppplies them with power. Believe me robert, Israel wants peace more than anything, but we will not jeopardise our security, not one little bit. And by the way, your 'pound of flesh' analagy disguts me. It reeks of the antisemitism which you always display on these pages.
44. Zech 12.2-3 Jerusalem - A Cup of Drunkeness
Neil Turner ,   Watford, UK   (10.01.11)
I think that Mrs Merkel needs to understand that the Bible contains a very clear warning against interfering with Jerusalem. Zechariah promises that it will be a "heavy stone" for all peoples, and that those who seek to "heave it away" will surely be ciut to pieces. It is clear from history that the British Empire's decline and fall started when we opposed the birth of Israel. EU beware !
45. #9 The US should give Israel one of its states...
Robert ,   Australia   (10.01.11)
Think of the money the US would save.
46. There are certain things that Germans should stay of
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (10.01.11)
Chancellor Merkel is siding with the Palestinians whose hatred of Jews is no less that the Nazis. As did the Nazis, the Palestinians want a Judenrein State where Israel stands today! Some of those who support the Antisemitic Palestinians want Israel wiped of the map just as Nazis wanted to exterminate the Jews. Jews might forgive but we never forget!
47. to 12
john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (10.02.11)
You just crossed the line fool.
48. Gilo
Xnil ,   World   (10.26.11)
Let the politicians play their games and let Israel keep on building in their own houses in their own country.
