1. Religion of Political Correctness vs. Judaism
Hanoch   (10.03.11)
Racism, schmaisism... The Illigal African migrants have turned Central Bus Station into a dangerous crime ridden zone. If people like you had their will the whole country (what would be left of it after you are done with all the "concessions for peace") would turn into one unlivable bus station. If the choice is between your newly found religion of Political Correctness and 3000+ year old Judaism, I with your persmission, will stick to Judaism. If the choice is between the opinion of such an enlightened thinker as yourself and the one of our sages I'll take the latter any day.
2. Wrong. Some good points mixed with in accuracy.
Josh   (10.03.11)
Do you have to be so black and white about it? Secondly, they do not keep Torah, it is not Torah verse secular but illegal rabbinic additions prohibited by Torah that verses secular views on race. Torah agrees with the secular view. One law for all with no preferences. In other words, don't blame G-d for religious extra-judicial attacks, murders and racism. Torah is very clear there needs to be two witnesses, not assumptions. It also is very clear about gerim and one law regardless of race. When the extremist rabbis say non-Jew they mean converts too. Those from other streams including American Judaism and even in some extremist views, all Askanazim, since they are called "converts" by extremists and they were not converted by Sephardim. Thus in their eyes, the net is they would goyim just like a reform convert and fall under the same "kings Torah" additions. If G-d wanted these additions, He would have had Moses write them not these radicals. There is no interpretation of Torah that allows for killing on a feeling. If it became understood once again that Torah was brought by a prophet, written by a prophet, and backed by miracles for the present listeners, we would trim all this fancy addition killing and racism out of the Torah. The Levis started it in a book written in a second person voice, thus not a prophet. Moses had the job and had no unknown writer to do it for him. That is my view, take it or leave it. Honesty.
3. The random racism accusation
BH ,   Iowa   (10.03.11)
The last resort of a failed agenda.
4. Given Mr Yesawich's apparent
BH ,   Iowa   (10.03.11)
distaste for racism, I'm looking forward to his extensive column on the overt and overwhelming institutionally reinforced Islamic Jew-hatred. Any time now, right?
5. Arabs are fifth column
ranjan ,   la, usa   (10.03.11)
Avi I do not agree any Rabbi at the same time I am concern for Eretz Yisrael's survival. All Arab countries are bigots. Last 60 years all they doing is plotting to push Yisrael into ocean. It is not a just religious bigotry but it is a truth that Arabs living in Yisrael do not consider themselves Yisraeli citizen. All they think is how to cause Yisrael pain. Read Quran and you will how how they want to kill every Jew and every infidel.
6. The TRUE colors of Avi Yesawich
Israeli 2   (10.03.11)
Why art thou so fearful of thy own kindred, Sir? the good rabbi merely spoketh one truth: Arabs are evil camel riders. He just added camel riders. Art thou per chance fearful of uttering the truth? Thy true colors showeth.
7. The courage of well educated left-wingers in their
tom ,   tel aviv   (10.03.11)
political and social statements never fails to amaze and surprise me. I guess it´`s a matter of opinion.
8. A question for Mr. Yesawich
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (10.03.11)
I read your article and a question shouts itself out when you read it. Do you have a selective concept about what racism and incitement are? I feel that you hate the very soul of religious people and religion! Is that accepted by the law that you say to defend? Please Mr. Avi go back to the universities where you studied and learn the things you forgot!
9. Seperation of Religion & State
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (10.03.11)
Religion & state must be separated; Judaism has always recognized the need to obey civil law except in a few very particular instances. Israel should be a state for all Jews not a Religious Jewish State.
10. yet...
srulik ,   netanya   (10.03.11)
- leftists attacking israelis in yishuvim is not incitement -leftists protesting against jews living in east jerusalem is not rascism - leftists and arabs protesting against jews living in hebron is of course acceptable - leftists and arabs suggesting the west bank be judenrein is not rascist/incitement etc... and of course, religious rabbis wanting to keep sudanese refugees and arabs out of their close-knit communities, where communal life is imperative and any outside distraction is considered wrong, is racist. Why don't you, enlightened leftist go and ask america why they are building a wall across the mexican border or go and pitch a tent in ramalah. Grow up. And
11. racism 101
avii ,   nyc   (10.03.11)
a day doesn't pass without some buffoon sung the term "racism" in YNET. Now , I understand that culturally vacuous secular Israelis in search of a "normal" culture ape Americanisms. Yes in the US there are racial conflicts between the different racial groups. But let me let you in on a little secret-black , white and asian Americans are of different racial backgrounds. Arabs and Jews are not. Becoming a "normal" nation doesn't mean copying American rhetoric. the term racism doesn't apply to two groups of the same race. Please get a new term.
12. God, Judaism, Torah and Rabbis
Irving ,   USA   (10.03.11)
It's a good living.
13. Excellent article....
esnuffnstl ,   USA   (10.03.11)
...and certain to provoke the anger of some on talkback. It's always extraordinary when citizens of a nation can honestly and without bias look at their nation's faults. It's something we in the US need to do more often. Kudos again to the author.
14. Torah doesnt "trump" law it is law
yoni ,   tel aviv   (10.03.11)
Torah is the law and it is infinitely more intelligent, ethical and truthful than any "educated" secular scholar. Not punishing collectively means not defending your country and allowing the murder of your citizens. This is very intellectual and good isnt it
15. It's as if every rabbi's his own chief
Jerusalem   (10.03.11)
These particular statements that enflame either aren't being brought across the right way or are blatantly wrong due to taking verses out of context. Scripture has a certain order to it with conditions set for, let's just say, desired results. If conditions are not met, the results change. It's never too late to bring this back into the harmony, of another definition of Zion. There's two options, either rabbi's meet, discuss and resolve this obvious insurrection to the Word or get together and do this under their leadership that would sound like priest or High Priest, about of Aaron. And then if may just fall in the prophecy and the revelations. One thing is for certain, there are issues and there needs to be the right way of looking at and doing things as painless as possible until it's practically pain-free. Here would be a place to begin and here would be a place for it to be done. People believe in God, have faith and look for bettermeant in life and the lives of those who are to come. A campaign needs to launch.
16. easy to condemn
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (10.03.11)
The article is entirely lies, distortions and hatred, but the most offensive is Yesawich's attack on Rabbi Lior. Rabbi Lior's call for collective punishment is no different than Obama's military actions in Libya and Afghanistan. But worse, condemning Rabbi Lior is easy. He was speaking after a man he knew as a baby, and that man's baby were murdered by terrorists because of police incompetence. Despite clear evidence, the police pretended it was an accident to deprive the widow whose baby was murdered of aid. Although it would be interesting to see how saintly Yesawich is, I hope he never goes through the pain Rabbi Lior did.
17. Say no to Rabbis on racism
Steven W ,   New York, USA   (10.03.11)
The article printed violates every one of your newspapers ' Terms Of Use ' It contains slander incitment and racism against a significant portion of the citicens of Israel. Shame on you for publishing this self hating Jew's ramblings.
18. Response to Talkbacks that Disagree
Avi Yesawich ,   Tel Aviv   (10.03.11)
If you believe that some of these Rabbis are making explicitly racist statements , you are ignoring a wealth of evidence that suggests the contrary. Just as you wouldn't defend Racist Imam's preaching filth about the Jews, you shouldn't feel required to defend the Rabbi's statements and actions...unless of course, you are racist against Arabs. Such a position is hypocritical and blatantly contradictory. Criticizing the religious when they use religion as a racist tool is not the same as criticizing religion. Implying that I "despise" or "attack" religion or, more specifically, Judaism, here is being intellectually dishonest. I clearly single out extremist Rabbis, not all Rabbis, and I do that because their views can often be considered exactly that: extremist and racist. I clearly emphasized that Islamic-inspired hatred and racism is prevalent in the original article, but it was edited by Ynet due to length constraints. You can find the full article at www.israelicentrism.com. There is no question that Islamic doctrine can be extremely racist towards Jews. I never deny that here, in fact, quite the opposite. Please don't put words in my mouth. I am not a political leftist, and identifying viscious racism, whether from Rabbis, Imams, Israelis, Arabs, Blacks or Whites, shouldn't be defined as "leftism." Many Arabs and Jews are clearly different in their background, ethnicity, origins, etc, depending on their heritage. To suggest otherwise is ludicrous.
19. misinterpatation
theredhand ,   Bat Yam   (10.03.11)
To the earlier talkbacks- Avi isnt excusing the bigotry and hatred of the arabs in this country and outside of it. hes focusing on our problems as a society. Ynet has plenty of articles about arab incitement and the "5th" column, so everyone that is worried about that not getting enough press should calm down. All he is doing is bringing up a legitamate problem, and since we are the "chosen people" and were supoposed to be a "light on to nations" its time we started holding ourselves to a higher standard, and not excusing our own problems because everyone else does it too.
20. to # 12
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (10.03.11)
Or simply "Religion"
21. Correction in my #18 Response
Avi Yesawich ,   Tel Aviv   (10.03.11)
In my last post, my first sentence should read "If you believe that some of these Rabbi's aren't making explicitly racist statements..."
22. powerful and effective political tool
(10.03.11)
witnessing is a deliberate attempt to use Judaism not only as a religious dogma, but as a powerful and effective political tool utilized in order to maximize the agendas of religious Jews and the ultra-right wing here in the State of Israel'' CORRECT! THE AGENDA IS TO LEARN TO SERVE ''THE ONE GD'' not to serve you are any man or politician. Political correctness is serving man. Moses wanted to see 'THE HOLY LAND' not see the liberal left wing deniers of 'GDs WAYS'
23. #16 About pain. If his life is curse laiden, it says evrythg
Josh   (10.03.11)
Why would you follow in his footsteps? It is illegal to add to Torah and that sin has curses. Torah calls for a lot of bad around the people who defile Torah. Take a look at the big picture and then cry to me about his pain. If our people are oppressed and earn curses because of bad leadership, I could care less about the "pain" that comes back around. How about feeling the pain of a good family that is evicted or can;t work and worry day in and day out because of racism? I hope they cry to heaven and G-d hears so that justice can land on the heads of the racists. It is the path to Sodom, racism is worse than loss of a friend because there is no post morning period, it lasts decades.
24. ,...
split ,   US   (10.03.11)
That was and still is the case everywhere they showed up. Hate and self imposed isolation is their way to keep the flock scared and under control. A fact that they don't mingle with and marry outsiders proves what they think of the rest of us.
25. "no rabbi was fired or brought to court for incitement" ,...
split ,   US   (10.03.11)
There goes your "democracy" ,...
26. "Rabbi's racism"
Bear ,   zefat, Israel   (10.03.11)
Avi, I hear apartments in Gaza are very cheap. Why don't you move over there? I think you'll be much happier!
27. Say NO to rabbis, Period.
Jose   (10.03.11)
You call it " profound audacity ", and I call it stupid ignorance. That 39 prominent worthless rabbis out of 50 prominent worthless rabbis are on the govt payroll, only shows their rapacious, ravenous appetite for cash without toiling for it. It also shows the complete ignorance of religious leaders like a certain Lior claiming that isolation, hatred of Jews is punishment for the demolition of 3 miserable shaks in Migron. An imbecile couldn't say it better; as we all know that bigotry and racism are very much entranched in the religious establishment just like the imams, the ayatollahs, the sheiks.
28. DAILY VITAMIN H
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (10.03.11)
At least once day one can expect an article from Ynet bashing the religious citizens of this country, either the Haredim, settlers or rabbis get raked over the coals. If any such hateful articles were published in Europe, this same Ynet would cry foul about anti Jewish sentiments. Reading the talk backs, the daily intake of vitamin H(ate) is working well.
29. Yesawich's contribution is null
Yanni   (10.04.11)
Lord Sandwich invented the sandwich, but Lord Yesawich who thinks he's cleverer than 6000 years' worth of his ancestors who brought him into this world has contributed a big giant EFES. That on the other hand gives him licence to publish here... like so many other ciphers...
30. One question to Avi Yesawich:
Yossef   (10.04.11)
What makes a Jew a Jew ?
