1. muslims all over the world
joel ,   usa   (10.03.11)
a sign that will show the world that generally muslims all over the world are disrespectful people is when they burned any flag of the countries that don't agree with their religion; they're just simply violent people, ok? their act just show what kind of mentality they possessed, ok? they don't respect the rights of other people, check this in their countries, ok?
2. good article
alexi   (10.03.11)
make the peddlars of doble standards and delitimization pay a price by- -israeli lawyers should sue them in israeli courts and international lawyers sue them in their home countries -contrary to obama who has catered to erdogan's reckless policies, hold your positions strongly including the gas wells in the mediterranean. if israel disappeared tomorrow,t he US wiould still be up a creek with the arab spring. Israel has nothing to do with it. The US and international media bear some blame here. CNN and british news was blasting non stop from tahrir square. what have we got now-more violence, rampant al quaeda and hamas in sinai and more attacks. Yes we can seems to mean more israeli deaths.
3. The world blames Israel.
Elsie. ,   Gush Halav   (10.03.11)
I think that every Israeli, like myself, when we go abroad, can be a ambassador/ess for Israel, many ordinary people just don't know enough to say yea or nay,but if we can talk and show what a wonderful country Israel is , half the battle is won.
4. Double standards? Good thing Israel never does that. LOL
Josh   (10.03.11)
I remind the Israelis, ONE LAW for everyone. Olim, workers, hassidim, Jews and other. All races, one law. Quit crying.
5. @Elsie
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (10.03.11)
I think that's very true, at least where I live. Most people are not at all informed about what's really going on, which I can't blame them for since matters are rather complicated, and they have their own lives to attend to, difficult enough as it is. Yet people were always willing to listen (to me at least) and let themselves be educated. Most dutch like to hear about other countires anyway.
6. Criticism does not equate to anti-semitism
Hans Stein ,   Madrid, Spain   (10.03.11)
L.S. In this decent article one thing must be made clear: any country that does acts that are not legal according to international law needs to answer for such acts. In this case if the Knesset or Israeli secret service commits acts that break those international laws, these acts must be persecuted. This goes for any country, not just Israel. Equating such persecution or even simple criticism to anti-semitism is not correct. Israel needs to answer for its acts like any other country.
7. To #6: Well, then, I'm sure you'll be the first to
Spanish Hogwash ,   usa   (10.04.11)
"criticize" the following countries in an international court of law for their suppression of human rights: Syria Libya Sudan Egypt Somalia Eritrea Saudi Arabia Afghanistan Pakistan Iran Yemen not to mention: Myanmar (Burma) China North Korea Cuba Indonesia Dem. Rep. Congo Interesting to note that Israel did not make the list, even though the source of this information was UK's The Guardian, which is notoriously anti-Israel. Guess you missed the point of the article, didn't you?
8. Not All Are Against You!
JenJen ,   Tahoe, USA   (10.03.11)
There are plenty of Americans, Jews and Non (like me) who support you and want you to stay strong. Do not agree to anything that will endanger the existence of Israel. Hold on until we can put our country right again, then we will kick the UN right out of NYC, cut off their funding and drill, baby, drill to get off of foreign oil. That'll put a dent in the pocketbook of the Kill the Jews crowd. Keep the faith.
9. #6 that is the point
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (10.04.11)
Why isn't Spain answerable for their crimes against the Basque people? You are committing one of the most brutal occupations and cultural genocide, but all you can do is criticize us for defending our land. That is the point of the article.
10. 750,000 people are starving to death ...
Jules   (10.04.11)
... right now in Somalia. Hey, UN, where are you ??? I think the UN is a write-off. It has to be replaced with a club of countries that have _democratically_ elected governments: the true LIBERAL DEMOCRACIES. The rest: theocracies, religious and military dictatorships, etc. must receive a boot.
11. #6. Hans S. Madrid: Please quote them
Tom ,   USA   (10.03.11)
Care to present here just one "International Law" which is RATIFIED by the all parties involved in this conflict. Those "Laws" which are selective and clearly biased against one country and were enacted by political opponents are NOT legally bonding. In Spain there was an obsessed ex-terrorist judge, -Baltasar Garzón who declared vendetta on his political adversaries...he had to be officially silenced at the end. I bet these are your preferred "Internationalist Lawyers"... am I right?
12. Israel: fight hard and fight to win!.
Chaim ,   Israel   (10.04.11)
The author is completely correct about the many double standards applied to Israel. However, Israel could easily fight back much harder. Since the Oslo Disaster, Israel has played only defense. One can't win playing defense. Leaders like Lieberman are starting to change things but we have only scratched the surface. For instance, why does Israel hide the overwhelming legal proof that Israel owns Judea and Samaria? We should be trumpeting this to the U.N., all world governments, media and NGOs. Why does Israel pretend we can live with the monstrous Two State Final Solution. Anyone who examines a map knows it would be fatal for Israel. It would take very little effort or expense for Israel to drum these facts into the world's consciousness. Yet we fail to do so. We must fight back, fight hard and fight to win!
13. to #6
Daniel ,   Netherlands   (10.03.11)
Hans, Spain will never have to answer for its occupation of Ceuta and Melilla, or the EU for financing segregation barriers on those 2 occupied territories, for the brutality against animals, or France for ethnic cleansing of the Roma, the British for the occupation and illegal drilling on the Falklands, and i can go on forever... Spanish or European people will never protest massacres committed anywhere, (show me recent protests against Syria), compare it with the demonstrations against USA prior Iraq invasion... We, Europeans couldnt care less how many Tibetans China massacres or Russia... but organize and support flotillas, and so on... By now we have learned that "International Law " is a term applied by hypocrites and the left against Israel alone... Or making Israel a "permanent issue " by the UNHRC is not a good example of that? and consider that Gaddafi's Libya was a member of the the UNHRC and Syria was about to take a seat there too... i never heard anyone protesting... Each time i hear the term "International Law" i feel like vomiting....
14. Not to beg the question, but ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.03.11)
... why should Israel care? Anti-Israel attitude is nothing more than a manifestation of anti-Semitism -- we all know that one -- focused on a centralized object: the State of Israel. There is no need for Israel to pay attention to any of it, or be bothered by any of it. We can -- and do -- take care of ourselves. I could care less about the rest of the world (certainly Europe in particular) because I know how the rest of the world has treated Jews for several millennia. Their attitudes and opinions are therefore entirely irrelevant. It is, however, shameful that they do not recognize their hypocrisy. Shameful, yes. Surprising -- no.
15. no 6
Jennie ,   Israel/US   (10.04.11)
Your wishy washy post, only clears your stand on Israel, without fair analysis or balanced critisism, Hans Stein...What act of Israel exactly are not coonsidered legal and what palis acts are legal, Hans ? And what acts exactly, Israel needs to answer for, but palestinians do not, namely chamas, fattah & other "well wishing friends of Israel", who in your opinion have nothing to answer for... Are you by any chance related to the journalist Stein in Bahrein ?
16. New York Times is Exhibit A
DavidM ,   USA   (10.03.11)
The New York Times is the classic example of the double standard applied to Israel. Its columnists Roger Cohen, Nicholas Kristof, and Thomas Friedman regularly condemn what they call the occupation. None of them will ever mention the Turkish occupation of Cyprus and Kurdistan or the treatment of gays and women in Saudi Arabia. The barbaric treatment of Gilad Shalit garners scarcely a mention by the Times trio. The double standard of the New York Times is exhibit A of bias.
17. Hans Stein #6 it does when you lie
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (10.04.11)
You invent 'international laws' that don't exist and ignore ones that do but show that your claims are false. We have acted within international laws - the EU, UN and the Arabs violate those same laws daily. Your country's support of ethnic cleansing and genocide of Jews is one of those crimes, yet you ignore that fact. Your country interferes in the internal affairs of Israel on a daily basis. Perhaps we should start supporting the Basques and their bid for independence and decide that you can't build in Spain. How would you feel about that?
18. Hans Stein #6
Steve Klein   (10.04.11)
My guess is YNet censors will not publish this comment. You are a despicable human being. Your statement, these acts must be "persecuted," is no doubt a slip of the tongue or your key board, but a sincere, heart-felt one.
19. @ Hans Stein, #6
Michael Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (10.04.11)
No, criticism doesn't equal anti-Semitism--until it becomes exclusive, criticising only Israel while ignoring other equal or more egregious offenses. Since you make the allegation that Israel "commits acts that break those international laws", kindly cite the applicable international laws, along with the so-called offenses. If all you have is some reference to your own interpretation of what international law should be, like many who make the same accusation, go home, do some homework and learn what international laws say. All too many real legal experts in international law have contradicted your general and very generic statement.
20. To Hans
Gábor Fränkl   (10.03.11)
Yes Hans, so in order to practice what you preach start with Russia, China and many other disgusting rogues or if you REALLY want badly to shine the light on democracies start with the recent Awlaki execution by the US. The sky is the limit. Only. Practice what you preach! Oh, and meanwhile - if you are German - just investigate the Bundewehr for the dozens of civis killed in Afghanistan, the first for Germany since the industrial-scale murder abimination of the Shoa.
21. The explanation is "War"
Yigal ,   Ramat Gan   (10.03.11)
The explanation to all this hatred, and anti Israelism, is because we are in war against the Palestinians and Muslim world, war is not only with tanks planes and missiles, public relation is also war, which the Arabe world is waging against us and with a lot of succes, they lost against us on the battle ground, so their fight now is to convince all the world, that we are criminals and occupiers, and they are succeding extremly wel in it, they are using PR as weapons, Israel can get so isolated from it that it can loose the war, without firing one shot, if the boycots which are the result of PR, goes on
22. Hans Stein (6)
tiki ,   belgium   (10.04.11)
Every time Israel is 'summend by "someone with a biased agenda" to justify it's actions against brutal murderers, it comes out clean, for Israel is NOT the one acting against International Laws. Israel knows every ...&,,,,, of the International law, (it can't afford not to). When people like you would start looking into the facts, instead of humming mantra's, it would hasten the proces to a fairer world.
23. B.S.
Daniel ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.04.11)
One can be anti-Netanyahu and his rabid racist right wing government and NOT be anti-Semitic. Indeed, MANY Jew-loving Jews and others are repulsed by Israel's actions, especially those against its OWN citizens. Netanyahu and Lieberman are the reasons the world hates Israel. NOT anti-Semitism. And the world is right.
24. #6 hans
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.04.11)
But no other country is called to answer for acts that are far worse than Israel's. This is the point of the article. You did read it, didn't you?
25. Dear Mr. Hans Stein , #6
whoever ,   wherever   (10.04.11)
...israel needs to answer for its acts like any other country... well, can you tell me who is answering for its acts, that Israel should be included, stupid hans, open your eyes, the world (unfortunately ) is a jungle, do not play intelectual, do not play progressive, that is an act, for filming.. do you know what happened for the jewish community in iran, iraq, yemen, egypt, pakistan, agghanistan, syria, jordan, gaza, ...who is responding for the disappearance of all those communitis, what happened to them...ha...i can not hear you, what are you saying... israel has to answer...only israel has to answer? do not play "progressive", you may have a big heart, but the size of your brain is not something that you can be proud of ... lets be honest
26. Like any other country
dshap ,   Miami, USA   (10.04.11)
Israel should answer for it's acts "like any other country" is a hard statement to argue with... if that were the case. The fact is, Israel is held to account for actions of self defense that are not only acceptable when done by other countries, but praised. Should an arab butcher a Jew, scant mention is made in the press... Let a Jew perpetrate a "crime", any crime on an arab and it would seem the sky is falling based on media reports. Consider the number of UN resolutions against Israel compared to UN resolutions against ALL other countries combined and it quickly becomes apparent to the neutral, informed observer, Israel is not held to answer for it's actions "like any other country".
27. Israel be strong
James ,   Honiara, Solomon Isl   (10.04.11)
Israel be strong, you are the light for the world. PM Netanyahu is a great Israeli leader for the time. Love you Israel and Love you Netanyahu
28. world blames Israel
Joe ,   uk   (10.04.11)
Its to with the very good PR of the palistinians in the media showing how bad they live with selected films and photos PRESS TV. show palistinians programs every week how bad Israel treats them and with their call of boycotts etc. this has been going on for some years people watching this get bad picture of Israel Why dont Israel fly the flag what it contributes to the world in agriculture, medicine, technology,IT security etc. and what do the palistinians and their associates contribute ? we all know we pay airport and other security taxes NOT because of Israel someone should make the world open their eyes stop leaving in denial and get off the palistinians band wagon
29. Double standard
South florida   (10.04.11)
the comment that Israel's enemies or adversaries lose on the ground but try to win in print will continue because there are not enough Jews / friends of Jews to overshadow the PR efforts of the enemies/adversaries. Also, the average world citizen isn't that smart and can easily be manipulated. It's tough to be a Jew but rewarding just the same.
