1. Publish the name of the school please
PETER SM ,   AUISTRALIA   (10.11.11)
2. Another example of how religion divides people
Haim ,   TA   (10.11.11)
Religion divides love unites.
3. Why force the issue? This is NOT racial!
Israeli 2   (10.11.11)
If the school is dedicated to the Askenazi way, why should Sephardic girls have their way? Are there no schools for Sephardic girls anywhere in Israel or are the Ashkenazic schools better? Forcing the issue is never beneficial.
4. This is all about areas of control again
From an Ashenazi ,   Israel   (10.11.11)
There is no sound educational reason why Sephardi girls, or boys for that matter should be kept out of Askenazi schools. Parents want a religious education for their children, and this is good, but the gap between the two streams of Judiasm are not impassable, its the powerbrokers who are spoiling it for our society. Just look what is happening with the extremists persecuting the religious girls junior school in Bet Shemesh. Yesterday even the BBC did a TV coverage of this disgusting situation
5. Why should Sephardim shame themselves?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (10.11.11)
Why would they want to learn Yiddish and Ashkenazi pronounciation for tefilla?
6. Baseless hatred
Joe Q. ,   Canada   (10.11.11)
Isn't this the kind of behaviour that, according to the Rabbis, led to the destruction of the second Temple?
7. Why aren't Sephardim building their own superior schools?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (10.11.11)
Once upon a time Sephardi learning trumped that of the Ashkenazim. It's time to beat them by being better than them.
8. @RaymondInDC, Agreed
jerry ,   nyc   (10.11.11)
i have a lot of sephardic extended family, and they're not so interested in ashqenaz ways, and it's not out of spite or racism, they just like their customs. at this point in israel history, government and media need to stay out of it and let the people find their way. there is a lot of marriage between all streams, including maroccans married with yemenites believe it or not!
9. Are the Ashkanazi seeing the Sephadic war against them yet?
Josh   (10.11.11)
10. As a victim of racial hatred of Americans, good for the goos
Dan   (10.11.11)
11. Can't help but wonder...
dorothy friend ,   tel aviv, Israel   (10.11.11)
...why the Sephardic/Mizrachi girls and their parents want to learn/want them to learn with these people. I know some Sephardim/Mizachim have adopted Misnaged ways, but shouldn't this be a red light to them that perhaps they are adopting the wrong ways.
12. Ashamed of my People!
Ben ,   Chutzlaaretz   (10.11.11)
Though I agree that the Sephardim should just build better schools and invite ALL students to attend rather than belittle themselves into begging their way into these ashkenaz schools, I find myself, an Ashkanazi Jew, totally disgusted by this behavior. Not a dang penny of any tax payer should go to these bigots! Take any tax money that was going there to build a school that doesn't discriminate and shun these Sinat Chinam idiots from any service at any synagogue. This "Rabbi" should have his name plastered for all to see and he should be denied any honors anywhere. Until our own community steps up to get rid of these scum (Sorry no other word), we will not deserve the title of Jews.
13. We were so religious when the second temple was destroyed.
Michael   (10.12.11)
14. 6 & 13 - don't worry, now there's no temple to be destroyed
(10.12.11)
15. Who needs them?
Ethan Schwartz ,   Eilat   (10.12.11)
The eastern cultures are being destroyed by the Ashkenazim.
16. I would not put my kid in such a school on principal.
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (10.12.11)
I am in a mixed marriage. My kids look white but have a north African last name. I would never put any of my kids in any school that discriminates. My son was in an excellent Shas elementary school and there were a few white, blond kids. They accepted any Jewish kid who wanted to study there, barring severe learning disabilities which they didn't have the resources to help. Why doesn't Shas open some secondary schools for girls in these communities? I would never grovel like this to a so called "rabbi" who doesnt want my kid based on race.
17. Ben #12 I AGREE WITH YOU
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (10.12.11)
18. #6 The baseless hatred that went on...
Susan ,   Kfa Saba   (10.12.11)
when the Temple was destroyed was way worse.
19. NOT SO SIMPLE PEOPLE...
PENINAH ,   JERUSALEM   (10.15.11)
THIS ISSUE IS NOT AS SIMPLISTIC AS THE AUTHOR OF THIS ARTICLE WANTS HER READERS TO BELIEVE... SEFARDIC GIRLS AND THEIR PARENTS PREFER THE BAIS YACCOV YESHIVAISH SHITAH TO THEIR OWN RICH AND PRECIOUS TRADITIONS. IT IS UNFAIR TO BUILD BEAUTIFUL SEPHARDIC SCHOOLS THAT NOBODY WANTS TO ATTEND, AND THEN CRY RACISM WHEN THE MENAHELS OF ESTABLISHED ASHKENAZI SHITAH SCHOOLS CRY OVER THE DISPROPORTIONATE NUMBER OF GIRLS WHO COME FROM SEFARDIC FAMILIES AND DESIRE ENROLLMENT. EXCUSE ME, BUT WHERE ARE THE RABBAIM WHEN IT IS TIME TO ISSUE A DEFINITIVE PSAK RATHER THAN ALLOW CHEAP REPORTERS TO MAKE AN ISSUE OF SOMETHING IRRELEVANT TO THE CORE OF THE PROBLEM... FOR SHAME!
20. sephardic?
