This story is the perfect that example of the subtle anti-semitism that we US Jews suffer at the hands of our gentile government officials. Jews, like all other humans, have a right to live anywhere they want, that means even in Baghdad, if they wish. Baghdad has had a continuous Jewish community going back not just centuries but few millenna. This community has been almost completely wiped out not by outright murder like they did to our communities in Europe but by "pressure" as indicated in the above article. And now the gentiles want to go for the coup de grace by forcing the last remnants of a once vibrant community to move. Instead of pressuring the Jews, US should use its considerable influence and leverage over the Iraqi government to ensure the safety of Iraq's Jewish community. Stop treating Jewish communities like cancerous tumors that must be removed. If a country has zoned an area for residential living then we have a right to live there like everyone else, that means Hebron, that means West Bank, that means San Diego(for me), and that means Baghdad for those Jews who want to live there. Any nation can (for whatever reason) ban a certain people from their country, if they do not conform to the society. It is the sovereign right of any nation to make decisions on who is allowed to immigrate. Which is precisely why Israel is an absolute neccesity for the Jewish people, not to mention it reverses one of the greatest crimes in human history, the expulsion of Jews from Israel in the first place. As for Jews already living in Baghdad, I agree they should be afforded the basic human rights that we all deserve.

While independent sovereignty trumps many an international law, ALL civilized nations who signed the UN Charter CANNOT segregate, repress or expel ANY minority group from their nation if there is no real or clear threat to the populace or national security. The Iraqi Jews are descended from those Jews who were FORCED to leave Israel and live in "Babylon" only to be told they must leave now (2 ,500 years later) or face possible death! You as usual are the liar. The Synagogue is borded up, the Jewscan't give their name and the are fewer than a fedozen Jews left. Most were kicked out decades ago, and emigrated to Israel. Same in Libya, Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen, Jordan. Odly there are a few thousand Jews in Iran and Morroco although even those numbers are very small compared to what they once were.

Dear readers. I am an Iraqi Brit born from a tolerant Islamic faith and I found this article heartbreaking, I really did. No word of a lie, if Iraq loses all of it's Jewish community it will mean that the once inevitable link that Iraq had with the Jewish faith will be depleted and overrun by corruption on a grand scale worse that what we see today. I would really like to point one thing, if I may: my fathers best friend in Baghdad (God rest his soul) was Iraqi Jewish and was one of the most lovliest person I ever met. when he passed away we went to the synagogue and prayed there, Muslims in a synagogue, for him, his family and his friends. Ever since that day I had prayed that the Jewish community thrives again in Iraq as it did before because with good honest people like him, its what Iraq, Israel and the rest of the world needs! I pray to God for the wellbeing of those Iraqi Jews and hope that hatred towards the Jewish society in Iraq (and most importantly the rest of the world too) to cease, once and for all! we are all God's children for crying out loud!!!

Why ask Jews to leave Iraq? They have more right to Iraq than many Iraqis. they have been there for thousands of years. Why not see to it that the Islamists and their likes move to Saudi Arabia or Iran. And doing so let the Palestinians return home. A good deal for everybody.
