31. If this is our policy then don't risk lives of our soldiers
tom ,   tel aviv   (10.12.11)
who go out and capture these Arab murderers. Just let every terror attack be like a tsunami or earthquake, a Force Majeure. Nothing we can do about it. A moronic country we truly are, said Yoda... and no death penalty for terrorists to top it off. Oh, but we know how to quote the Torah, big deal!
32. Its immoral
Nachliel ,   Gush Etzion,Israel   (10.12.11)
Wait.I agree 100% but when we went into the army Nov. 1971 I knew a war was comming,we all did.I spent the war in Syria in Golani.44 men of our unit died,so many injured. My worry was one, not to be captured, death was never on my mind.Did I run away on my first leave home? No.My son now sits in a tank also willing to give up all.The Torah understands that 1028 murderers will try again. One life the Torah says must not be paid the price of future (G-D forbid) dead Jews.Statistics are that they come back to kill and have killed many again. The parents of Gilad Shalit have torn down our morale and dragged it through mud.Noble is not a title they deserve, rather they are self serving.
33. Let me put it another way
Beauchard   (10.12.11)
People identify with the Shalit family. They were suffering. However, the released murderers will kill again. Of course we do not know who they will kill. So we cannot identify with these families. What if they kill a member of your family? Would it still be a good deal? .
34. soldeirs be aware
sas ,   israel   (10.12.11)
more kidnaps are in the planning......travel buy bus and not tramping.
35. Thank you "Israel", thank you Netanyahu for being so clear.
Salma ,   Palestine   (10.12.11)
Resistance and not negotiations, is the right choice.
36. If it was my son
ruben safir ,   NYC   (10.12.11)
If it was my son, I'd still be against the deal.
37. 1000 terrorist = a good man
PixelatedDwarf ,   USA   (10.12.11)
I can understand the value of a good man. But, letting that many terrorists go seems rather foolish even with the political pressure to get him free. Are we going to ship 1000 arab terrorists to the US for Pollard?
38. Mr. Tessler, 1:1027 or even more is about right.
leo ,   usa   (10.12.11)
39. Shalit deal wrong move - really!?
NuritG ,   Los Angeles Californ   (10.12.11)
It has been approved already! History will condemn and not forgive all those who votefor this disgracefulagreement of capitulation to terror.
40. Of cause it is a wrong move thus -
Arm. ,   Sweden.   (10.12.11)
Shalit deal wrong move Op-ed: We must adhere to Jewish rule, not redeem captives for more than their value Yitzhak Tessler Published: 10.11.11, 23:21 / Israel Opinion At this time we can and must declare decisively that a significant part of the religion public, just like the rabbis, objects to the Shalit deal (there are other objectors as well.) There are religious reasons for it, as well as ideological and practical grounds. - if Israel should have Executet the Terrorits with blood on their hands, this deal would break no principles set by HASHEM. Since Israel did not do the Will of HASHEM in the first place, everything afterwards will be wrong also. Arn.Sweden.
41. torn between important values
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (10.12.11)
First I am happy that Gilad will be freed. Reasoning from my Jewish self-concept, I am convinced, that there was no other way, but rescuing Gilad. From a real life point of view the issue is vastly more complicated, since there are high values, which are forbidding such a deal. The question is, if these values are higher than Gilad's life! The actual problem is, that we are putting other lives at risk, since we are strengthening terrorism and we are sending the signal, that abductions are a successful means of terror. At the end, we end up with more security measures, which will make ourselves less free in our own country.
42. @#1
Ber ,   Yahud   (10.12.11)
First of all, I agree %100 with this article. To number one, many of the best armies in history had a no surrender policy like the Germans and the Japanese in WWII. I am very glad that you don't actually work in security, for I might actually renege on the whole aliyah thing, and go back to a country THAT KILLS TERRORISTS, NOT SETS THEM FREE BY THE THOUSANDS in exchange for ONE person that may not even be alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Israel is becoming pathetic, and as pariah in the Middle East, and the world, it doesn't bode well for those of us planning on dying of old age in the land of Israel! With all due respect.
43. #1 Gabriel: And how many soldiers will die recapturing them?
Esther   (10.12.11)
44. 1100 terrorists let out for elchanan tanenbaum; resulting in
Hippocrates ,   earth   (10.12.11)
231 newly murdewred israeli from these same jiohad maniacs let out. people who say this is moral need to where inch thick glasses because they are so short sighted its mind biggling. basically get 231 coffins ready. If only we had Jewish leadership with balls. If only....
45. Reply to #41, Yael
Steve Goodman ,   Israel   (10.12.11)
You worry that life in Israel will be more difficult after releasing just over 1000 pieces of human waste, and you voice your opinion while living in germany......come home....then render your opinion
46. Israel=GILAD/Not war after war/BIG ISRAEL=SHALIT=SHALOM
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (10.12.11)
47. Bargain? I call it sand in the eyes!
David ,   Etz Efrayim, Israel   (10.12.11)
Together with the entire nation I am happy that the child is returning to his family - but, sad to say' the timing proves the cynasism of our elected government: a better deal could have been made years ago. Could it be that the deal was made NOW in order to deflect attention from the total failure of the elected government of the people of Israel from the social issues? What happened to the slogan "the people demand social justice?" They struck a bargain, at the expense of our lives and the lives of our children. I hope that the wonderful Shalit family will be able to live with this stigma that is not of their doing and that ALL of us will be able to live with soo many freed homocidal criminals on the streets
48. #1
Isaac Storm   (10.12.11)
#1, you ask how can soldiers fight if they believe they will be abandoned? There is another side. How can soldiers ask citizens to support them if they are asking citizens to die in their stead. Don't the citizens feel abandoned?
49. No fear
lidia ,   Israel   (10.12.11)
of next kidnappings if terrorists are killed on the spot. Once they are proven guilty, there's no future lodging. Why should they be given privileges in jail that our Gilad has never benefited from???
50. Pollard?!?!
Philos ,   Herzliya   (10.12.11)
What is wrong with you religious rightists?!? How can you compare Gilad Shalit, a serving soldier of the IDF, loyal to his country to a traitor serving time in jail!!! That's like comparing a POW to a common criminal in jail. Argh!
51. shalitt-let free
dumbell ,   chicago usa   (10.12.11)
it's good, let the world see that one jew is worth one thousand arabs. we are a people who aspires to L'chaim. it's good to bring him home to his family and friends

Kenneth Mathews ,   USA   (10.12.11)
55. To: No. 35
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.12.11)
In view of the fact that Israel can annihilate Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and probably a few other countries without breaking much of a sweat, you really might want to consider choosing your words more carefully. We can make your "resistance" -- which everyone else calls terror -- disappear into a mushroom cloud, and don't you ever -- EVER -- forget it. Moreover, you would do well to keep in mind that no one will come to your aid. No one. Everyone will be way too busy breathing a sigh of relief -- and passing out sweets. Don't you ever -- EVER -- forget that, either.
56. It is a sad but good deal
Patrick ,   Paris France   (10.12.11)
This deal highlight our praise of life, it is going to bolster the the moral of our fighters, the ones who are protecting us. We never never abandon our soldiers, the give the best for us, they risk their life, to be crippled, it is worth taking the risk to tell them that we do love them, that we are with them. The real issue is should we condemn the terrorists to the capital punishement.
57. shalit
harvey gefen ,   toronto canada   (10.13.11)
the torah sets out a firm law ransom not the life of a murderer this is found in numbers .
58. Shalit release
Herbert Malamud ,   Guatemala   (10.14.11)
I also think it is a tough decision, but it shows the worth of the Jewish values. They will fall next time again.
59. Shame..
Jennie ,   Israel/US   (10.15.11)
For all those posters, who are already counting the future Jewish victims of future terror attacks...It sounds like the pali savages, who terrorizing and kidnapping our people and troops on our sovereign soil, are somehow justified to do so. We must learn to prevent the kidnapping by a severe deterrance: an eye for an eye and heavy repraisals for any provocation or intimidation from the palis...
60. Reply to Yael
Steve Goodman ,   Israel   (10.20.11)
You are hiding behind a falsehood....there is work in Israel for those willing to work......stop lying to yourself and come home....
