In any nation besides Israel, nobody would give a moment of thought to freeing 1,000 terrorists to ransom a single hostage. It's simply too crazy. No doubt - he is not popular with those who think it can be done "another way" - sorry, for those folk - their ways dont work. Israel will beg Lieberman to lead them through the difficult days to come. He's to only one with any balls - the rest are too frightened to do anything but capitulate.

What this tells you is that Bibi's constant refrain of 'I can't do this because the far right in the cabinet won't let me' or 'I had to do this because the far right in the cabinet made me', is baloney. It's all about Bibi, never forget, so when he thought, 'I can do this, it'll play well, I'll look good,' he did it. The fact that the numbers are what the right opposed all this time, and that amongst those being released are people with our blood on their hands, and that it all could have happened long before, and that the 'devil we know' Mahmoud Abbas is damaged by this and its timing, and 'the devil we hate' is boosted, is of course irrelevant.

When Lieberman is imprisoned, there will be no exchange for him. I hope he will rot in an Israeli prison. The crimes with which he will be charged only scratch the surface.
