4. Privacy now for Shalits
David N. ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.19.11)
Just so he is left alone as much as he and his family desire. None of us want endless filler news at the expense of Gilad's privacy. And what are french fries? I would have thought Gilad a fan of chips being a good Israeli lad! (Or pomme frites, maybe, since they were a Belgian street food long before Americans discovered them in Europe.) Anyway, please Yediot, and the rest of the media, you can stay very low-key and let the Shalits be a normal family again in private... I hope.
5. Doesn't look like Gilad got WHOLE CHICKENS
Mom2 ,   Israel   (10.19.11)
6. Gilad home again
Moragh USA   (10.19.11)
It is good to see that Gilad is back in Israel in the comfort of warmth and family love. He doesn't look so great at all, and I would even say that he looks terribly ill. No matter what the nespapers and those in authority say, Gilad has had it rough... very rough! I wish him a happy return home and healthwise, all the very best attention possible. I'm certain that Israel will give him at least that much. Bibi looked smug. I wonder what for? Did he do anything special to help Gilad from the wild animals he lived with for over 5 years?
7. French ambassador
M.J. Eizen ,   Petah Tikvah, Israel   (10.19.11)
Once again, the French have proven themselves useless as an ally. They talk a lot, posture a lot, and do nothing. To quote General George S. Patton: "I'd rather have the German Army in front of me, than the French Army behind me."
8. Gilead Schalit
M.M.Schmidt ,   Trier, Germany   (10.19.11)
Congratiulations to Gilead! Wish him and his family all the best for future. A brave soldier came home. God bless him and the people of Israel! With greetings from Germany
9. #1 You are cold.
Janet ,   Israel   (10.19.11)
I could talk about Gilad for weeks! It was tramatic for the whole nation. I am so glad to hear that he ate with huge appetite. I hope he slept well inhis own room. I hope his first morning at home and freedom was like heaven. I hope his new days ahead are full of PEACE, LOVE and HEALING!

IlanaB   (10.19.11)
Really nive to come here and read that he took a short stroll outside, in the fresh air of his home town!! My heart is filled with joy at reading this!!! I also feel a bit worried about Hadas-Being only 16 when all this happened... Hope she is fine and will join them tonight for the holiday meal.
13. Where is Saba,grandfather's Gilad?
Keren ,   IL-BR   (10.19.11)
14. I´m so happy for Gilad!
Heidi ,   Finland   (10.19.11)
I´m so happy Gilad is with his family now! Last night when I went to bed, I was thinking about Gilad; he is back home, and able to sleep in his own bed! I wish him a lot of happiness in his life, I hope he will recover from everything he went thru. Israel did the right thing, it has a big heart. Israel is showing to the whole world, how much it cares of one single person. Love has a huge power.
15. "he needs peace and quiet"
Sagi   (10.19.11)
Then let the press give it to him. Enough is enough. He is turning into a "celeb". Not good for him and not good for us.
16. Why didn't Hadas stay for dinner?
Lucy   (10.19.11)
Where did she go?
17. #1 NO way
Miriam   (10.19.11)
We want to know everything about him.We want to talk, see, feel him everyday at least for the 30 coming days! His 1st week, month in freedom,at his home.
18. Welcome home, but let's not make this a reality show
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (10.19.11)
Everyone is glad he is back! Now he just needs rest and quiet and time to catch up with his family. They should limit media contact to half an hour each week.
19. To No.7: Your Patton quote is a fake.
Baruch ,   Paris, France   (10.19.11)
"I'd rather have a German division in front of me, than a French one behind." Misattributed by former Defense Secretary James Schlesinger on Fox News. Patton commanded French troops, the 2nd Armored Division commanded by Philippe Leclerc, integrated in the Third Army, and had rocky but friendly relations with the French general. For instance, on August, 15 1944 Patton wrote in his diary: "Leclerc came in very much excited. He said, among other things, that if he were not allowed to advance on Paris, he would resign. I told him in my best French that he was a baby and said I had left him in the most dangerous place on the front. We parted friends" (Wikipedia)
20. France
H. Seligmann ,   New York   (10.19.11)
Just to clarify things a bit, for the last few years hanging outside at the entrance of the Marie du 16eme (the Town hall of the 16 arrondisement) on Avenue Henri Martin in a most influential neighborhood in Paris hung a 5 meter by 8 meter (approx) picture of Gilad Shalit at the entrance of the building. The only other place on planet earth that I saw something of equal value was in Israel. Not even in New York! City
21. homecoming

We join all in wishing you a welcome home and a smooth as possible settling in.
22. Poor Gilad
Lena ,   Russia, Moscow   (10.19.11)
I can understand that this is a good day for Israel, but now it looks like Gilad is a pop-star!! What did he eat, how it was, with who...Stay them alone, give him a chance to back in a normal life! Do you really belive that publishing such articles you're do not look like that egiptian "journalist". The main mission of journalism not in such "hot" moments!
23. :) finally good news!!! :)
Ester   (10.19.11)
24. I think its important that he feels comfortable being out

26. #22 Lena
Chaya ,   Beitar Illit   (10.19.11)
No! We are not the Egyptian journalist... we care!! We care about Gilad not about getting or knowing the scoop. For 5 years we tossed and turned at night and cried many tears worrying about Gilad - every detail of his coming home and moving forward in life is relief and comfort for us. If you're Jewish come home and join us here - then u too will be part of the family. (As I'm sitting here at the comp my 14 yr old daughter walkled in and asked "Mommy, how many hours did Gilad sleep last night?" !!! - yes, we care ABOUT GILAD!)
27. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE OF FAMILY
...DACON9   (10.19.11)
I PRAYED EVEN WHEN I HAD AN ALIYAH ALONG WITH MY FAMILY FOR HIS SAFE RETURN. unfortunatly ISRAEL didnt do the RIGHT ThING from the first 5 minutes of his capture. MAYBE ISRAEL learned to have a backbone and confron the enemy 10 times stronger . EYE TO EYE FACE TO FACE DIPLOMACY DOESNT WORK WITH THE CHILDREN OF YISHMAEL
28. These People Are Sociopaths
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (10.19.11)
Israel's mistake was in not partitioning the Strip into 3 to 5 parts, similar to prior moves when it had control ( and relinquished it with no positive move by Hamas). This shoudl have been done asa Shalit was taken captive..and not returned immediately. Afterwards, it became impossible to rescue him..notwithstanding planning Im sure and perhaps some feeble efforts. He became a psychological pawn iin the conflict, with Hamas having all the advantage. His family and others by protesting the govt and not Hamas's action...became part of the problem. In fact, not unti the end, was his release certain. And no one outside Hamas, knew his actual physical condition. Israel, typically caught between a rock and a hard place by its childish moves since Oslo 2. It is at war...can we imagine large groups on our borders (Hamas/Hez) acting similarly? But all in all, his release was a wise move..for his sake and his famiiles..and Israeli moral. Now its time to figure out how to avoid a repeat, and act upon it, if it does occur. With people like Hamas, what is to stop them from capturing him again? I know its a terrible thought, but...given who is involved! These people are sociopaths.

Everybody talks about the things they care about. You can go right ahead and talk about something else.....I'm happy to keep talking about this for another little while
