1. treatment
larry butler ,   kibbutz israel   (10.19.11)
this is something that all Israelis knew , but the world seems blind to because of the massive propaganda machine of the Muslim world ,, they have the money to spread lies
2. Prisoner's treatment
Gershon   (10.19.11)
When the truth comes out about what that bunch of thugs and murderers did to Gilad, Israel should inflict the same on the terrorists in Israeli prisons.
3. Details strengthen or weaken arguments - please correct
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (10.19.11)
Gilad was given access to HEBREW television and radio. The rest of the article is clearly spot-on. Thanks.
4. Say it LIKE IT IS...
Roy ,   Canada   (10.19.11)
Jews in captivity with the Arabs are treated the same as we were in Auschwitz. While Arabs in Jewish captivity are held as what can be described as CLUB MED conditions by comparison. Period! But this is the way it should be. We are civilized, they are not. We are leaders, they can't even be followers. We are human, they are barbaric. We must continue to be better than them.
5. "Palestinian's" treatment in Israel's prisons is wrong!
Keren ,   IL-BR   (10.19.11)
It is humiliating wrong. Israel should follow * their* way of treating prisioners. I think it is ridiculous the way Israel treats them.Ridiculous!
7. Prisoners came out fat.
Observor ,   every country.   (10.19.11)
The arab prisoners seem to have come out with muscles and all look healthy.
8. They don't look like such "freedom Fighters" now.
noa ,   israel   (10.19.11)
Take out a page in the New York Times and publish this. Put it on all the news all over the world. NEVER NEVER SHUT UP.
9. Up to 1200 a month?
Becky ,   Ramat Gan Isael   (10.19.11)
Seriously? That is bull! Israeli soldiers receive 356 shekels a month! How is that fair? They blow people up and get paid for it?! Seriously! Forget the UN and start showing them Karma! The government treats them better then they treat us!
10. @3 incorrect
joe ,   st louis USA   (10.19.11)
No, it was apparently Arab language television accd to a quote by Gilad in a recent YNet article. Do you have some other source? Anyway, Gilad said conditions were "rough" in the early years. We have yet to hear a full debriefing of what that really means. The article did leave out that convicted terrorists in Israel get to earn advanced degrees from the Open University program, and also that the Int'l Red cross constantly inspects Israeli prisons to confirm humane living conditions.
11. Arabic/hebrew television
Global ignorance ,   Israel/usa   (10.19.11)
According to all of the articles I have read,on multiple websites shalit only had acess to arabic television
12. #3 global
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.19.11)
No; according to reports, he was given access to ARABIC television and radio.
13. @6 I think you've missed reality
joe ,   st louis USA   (10.19.11)
Gilad received no visits from the International Red Cross, who will go anywhere, including Gaza. They constantly inspect Israeli prisons to confirm humane conditions. International law requires Red Cross inspections. Palestinian prisoners also get a little something called a TRIAL, unlimited access to legal counsel, advanced degrees from Israeli universities, contact with family, friends, governments, each other and of course plenty of food. I'm not sure what any of this has to do with how many planes Israel has. Hamas has the backing of the entire government of Iran and Syria, who are quite powerful and have plenty of planes. And who, by the way, also mistreat their prisoners, including the Palestinian ones.
14. #6 Here is what's MERDE
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (10.19.11)
You asked WHO is gonna visit in GAZA? How about all those "Flotilla" tourists? Ms. Lauren Booth? You know that according to the Geneva Conventions that "human rights activists" are always shouting about, Red Cross MUST have access. Gilad wasn't in solitude, he was surrounded by HAMASD. What a "comfort" that must have been for him. For Hamas security he was deprived of essential Vitamin D to the point that he has lost critical bone density? Now we know who is really full of MERDE SCHEISS.
15. Comparing prisoners to kidnap victims...
sara ,   Canada   (10.19.11)
Don't you think it's a bit absurd to write an article comparing the treatment of convicted prisoners by a democracy to the treatment of a kidnap victim by a terrorist organisation? Gilad Shalit wasn't a prisoner; he was kidnapped and held for ransom. These sorts of false apples-to-oranges comparisons only draw false parallels that serve the interests of the terrorist groups.
16. # 3
Birdi ,   Israel   (10.19.11)
Wrong, Gilad did not have Hebrew TV in his dungeon. He has said he only watched Arabic TV & listened to Arabic radio. There is no Hebrew TV in Gaza. The channels are blocked by Hamas. Stop spreading lies will you.
17. First Images from the swap
Simon ,   Denver, CO   (10.19.11)
I have serious doubts that Sgt. Shalit was treated in the same humane way as the Palestinian prisoners in Israel. Just looking at the first images form the release Sgt. Shalit appeared to be in a weakened state. The released Palestinian prisoners looked very well fed and energetic. There is a visible difference, and we will know more in coming days.
18. money
rumkel ,   toronto   (10.19.11)
combat soldiers make less then that
19. Who sais Jews are clever?
m   (10.19.11)
We are just self righteous and want to be loved by the WORLD
20. #15 Spot on!!
m   (10.19.11)
Who says we are clever? We even do their PR against ourselves. The chutzpa to compare a kidnapped soldier to murderers is mind boggling.
21. Just look at them!
Hadar ,   Afula, Israel   (10.19.11)
Most of those "suffering Palestinian prisoners" are so freaking FAT! How much food did they get while they were "suffering and wasting away"? Poor Gilad is so, so tiny now. These prisoners were imprisoned for attempting (and succeeding in most of the cases) to harm and kill innocent civilians. Gilad was captured because he could be used as a bargaining chip, not for any crime he committed. Any one who is too ignorant or stupid to see this needs to get their head examined.
22. Gilad vs prisoners
maspik!   (10.19.11)
Gilad was protecting his country. The prisoners were arrested murderers. Gilad was thin. The prisoners were bloated fat. Israel treats its prisoners with blood on their hands too well. We need to renew the ancient death penalty. Period. No more arrests. Shoot on sight. Period.
23. ISRAEL MORE FRIGHTENED OF PALESTINIANS THAN THEY OF US
David ,   NJUSA   (10.19.11)
STRONGER LEADERSHIP REQUIRED TO PROTECT ISRAEL AGAINST RABID BRUTAL ENEMY..
24. israel needs a death penalty
glenn stevens ,   boca raton fl   (10.19.11)
those with blood on their hands should have been executed for their crimes.......and not sitting in a luxury prision waiting to be exchanged....if i were a citizen of i would be on the next plane out.....knowing those murderers are getting a 2nd chance to kill.....and terrorism does pay!!!!!!
25. nadia
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (10.19.11)
He doesn't look like he has been eating whole chickens. There is no comparison. The power of Israel and it's airforce has nothing to do with this and you are asking for common sense? I don't think you would know it if it bit you.
26. # 25
Birdi ,   Israel   (10.19.11)
Nadia is simply babbling as its free here.
27. Capture and Try Them
TSB ,   Clifton, NJ USA   (10.19.11)
Israel should issue a reward for the capture of those involved in imprisoning Shalit. They should then be tried as war criminals for violating the Geneva Convention (even the Red Cross was not allowed to visit him), and shot in the head. Then wrap them in pig skin and bury them.
28. @No.4
Ahron ,   Jerusalem, ISRAEL   (10.19.11)
Roy, True, we ARE civilized and should act accordingly. However, CLUB MED is NOT how a convicted criminal should be treated. Humanly, yes. Better than some Israeli citizens?, NO. Adequate food, water, shelter and clothing. But books, tv, entertainment, etc.... No. Jail/Prison is a punishment not some sort of Disneyland. I firmly believe that Israel should have the death penalty. There would not be such a scenario if once these terrorists are convicted they are either executed or deported permanently. Being held in a holding cell indefinitely is not just or humane.
29. @Nadia
Ahron ,   Jerusalem, ISRAEL   (10.19.11)
Nadia, I wish more people had common sense. I just wish YOU had some as well. Is it common sense to train your children to believe lies about jews? Is it common sense to teach your children to admire people who kill in the name of god? Is it common sense to claim to have a history of a mythical land? Or is it common sense that if you want to be known as a peaceful, nonviolent people who truly want peace, to protest peacefully?!? I look to the examples of Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr. and even Malcolm X. These individuals at some point in there lives realized that violence is not the best way to go about things. They realized that PEACE is much better than violence. THAT is Common Sense.
30. There is NO comparison: pals SUKK
EZRA The Proud Jew ,   US-IL   (10.20.11)
Israeli prisons have passed all of the inspections which upholds international law and as was CLEARLY seen on TV, ma y of them were FAT...yes! BLUBBER on their bodies after years of serving prison sentences handed down by a democratic court. Further, this article did a lousy job of expressing all of the benefits the pals get. Gilad was TOTALLY DEPRIVED!! TO HELL WITH THE PALS
