the palestine whos prison here they all fat and shalit is thin.they have a human right here
32. conditions of captives
Al Ssipant ,   USA   (10.20.11)
Your article omits a critical constraint of Hamas. Hamas could never let the Israeli prisoner out in the open for fear one of the Israeli spies would relay his position and enable an escape. Hence, he had to be kept inside and w/o visits from the Red Cross.
33. @32 incorrect
joe ,   st louis USA   (10.20.11)
The International Red Cross does not assist in relaying locations of prisons to foreign countries. There was absolutely no reason to prevent their access, except to hide the fact that Gaza's prison conditions do not meet international standards. By contrast, Israel has constant coordination with the International Red Cross, and its prisons significantly exceed Red Cross standards.
34. regardless of who was treated better, at the end of the day:
Leanna ,   israel   (10.20.11)
Gilad was kidnapped, he didn't do anything to deserve what he got. Prisoners however, shouldn't complain. If they didn't want to be there, they shouldn't have commited a crime in the first place. Prison's are not meant to be hotel resorts. The people in there lost their right to complain the minute they took the life of someone, whether those prisoners be jew, muslim or christian, the fact that these muslim terrorists just got released after their dirty actions, especially means they should be thanking israel, not complaining.
35. #32 - BS. Red Cross rep could have been blindfolded
(10.20.11)
Don't make excuses for terror. Hamas is made up of sick bastards who wanted to use the conditions as an additional bargaining chip.
36. I wish all that could fit onto a T-shirt or bumper sticker.
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.20.11)
37. Whats the point?
Citizen ,   TA   (10.20.11)
Comparing the conditions of legally convicted criminals with the conditions of a criminally abducted hostage is like comparing how much a diamond costs in a shop with stealing the gem from somewhere. These two situations couldnt be more different!
38. Apples and oranges- Gilad is not criminal
Isaac ,   Kingston, Canada   (10.20.11)
To compare the two sets of conditions is playing into the hands of Hamas. Israel treated their criminals with respect while Hamas' other criminals kidnapped Gilad.
39. Hamas and their treatment of Shalit
gvoir ,   sydney   (10.20.11)
Hamas does not treat prisoners according to the Geneva convention. Those who believe in justice should speak out.
40. arab prisoners in Israel
gina bergman ,   johannesburg s.a.   (10.20.11)
why should Israel allow all the freedom of walking outside, three meals a day, medical care, while Shalit rotted in their jail? Treat them the same way without visits from the Red Cross nor families. They will then run screaming about human rights!
41. Conjugal Visits:
Moshe ,   Ashdod, Israel   (10.20.11)
Many, not all, but many of our prisoners receive conjugal visits. Moshe, 14 year employee of the IPS (Israeli Prison Service)
42. Maybe Hamas is right
R ,   Israel   (10.20.11)
If Hamas feels that Gilad's conditions were humane and in keeping with the tenants of Islam, perhaps they would agree to change the conditions of Hamas prisoners in Israeli prison to mirror those of Gilad's.
43. Gilad Saw Other Prisoners
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.20.11)
According to his interview (for which he did not seem like he was prepped and was struggling to work with his poor familiarity of Enlish) Gilad saw both prison keepers as well as other prisoners. All in all, it seems he was given a bed, regular (albeit meager) meals, television and updates about the effort to release him. At this point it seems he suffered neither torture at the hands of his captors nor was he at the mercy of other prisoners. Based on this it is fair to asses that he fared better at the hands of the Hamas than he would have in a US prison.

the base is -- shalite was in his job he was under the idf have the orders and the money from the state he need the security from the israil state but palastinians did it by thier responsibility have no state no orders from state even if it was organisations it was upon the personal well they know that they may be killed as many were or captured as many were so they were more imune to the treatment than shalite .sure hammass did the deal of exchange as part of their straggle while israil do it as the last mean for shalit to be free . i think in this way israil is wrong while hamass is right it is not the end or the start of the end of the conflect it is one step in the long way
45. To # 43 : Get real
JS ,   Montreal, Canada   (10.20.11)
The 'interview' was a condition of the release and Israel was vehemently opposed to it! He was in treated like a prisoner in inhumane conditions, will suffer lasting mental and probably physical damage - from poor nutrition, vision, lack of sunlight... A bed? Updates of his release? arabic TV. Get real!
46. A kidnapped soldier vs convicted terrorists
Shay ,   Raanana, Israel   (10.20.11)
Gilad was kidnapped while protecting his country's border during his military service. In the other hand, the Palestinian "prisoners" are CONVICTED TERRORISTS who murdered innocent people, some of them were just babies.
47. # 43
Birdi ,   Israel   (10.21.11)
You are as deluded as ever. Gilad was alone in captivity. The only men he saw were his guards. It was reported by Hamas that Gilad never saw their faces.
48. Israel is different
Josh ,   Kiel, Germany   (10.23.11)
@Gershon: "... Israel should inflict the same on the terrorists in Israeli prisons." No, Israel should not and will not do that. Israel is different from its opponents and that's one of its strengths. Jews do not torture nor mistreat other human beings.
49. gilad fared better than u,s, prison
eugenia lagosha ,   ipswich australia   (10.23.11)
i totally agree! he definitely would have been tortured there. worst prisons in the world the u.s.!
