Rick you don't have much of a chance of winning the US presidency but if you want to move to Israel I am sure you would be able to get elected for the premiership. Don't have the ability to understand two points: 1. Israel has mandatory conscription the USA does not. That Israel has mandatory conscription means that it has a mandatory responsibility to each and every one of its soldiers. In Israel we have soldiers individuals who serve their nation because it is their national obligation. In the USA you have troops - groups of people who get paid to serve their nation. 2. Kol Israel Arvim ze le ze (All Israel is responsible one for the other) this concept doesn't exist in the United States...Americans are individuals who prefer to make and spend their own money. In other words American republicans do not have the ability to understand why one IDF soldier is worth 1000 terrorists. And since they have no understanding of this idea they can't even begin to understand why we would negotiate for one single live IDF soldier (after all we all know what happened at Hotel Hanoi and why!)

the difference in the two situations is the difference between the Palestinians and the Taliban. I am not aware of any motivation on the Taliban side to ask for return of prisoners. We can argue all day about who the Levant belongs to/was given to by God, but one thing is clear: the Palestinians are not requesting the abolition of UN-membership'd nation-states in favor of a unitary worldwide caliphate.
