1. MISTER PRIME MINISTER ...
FO ,   Belgium   (10.20.11)
Now that the show is over, lets come back to serious business.Don't you think, Mr. P.M. that it is 5 minutes before midnight, and that it is your ultimate duty to tell your own people as well as world opinion, the historical truth, hidden till today, just to prevent that Marxist Zionism (!?) opposed to the creation of a Jewish State, a fact that made the Shoah in such an extend possible, should be revealed ??? Isn't it high time, Mr. P.M. to tell clear and loud, that thanks to the involvement of US President Woodrow Wilson, the San Remo Conference and the unanimous vote on 24th of July 1922 by all the 51 members of the LEAGUE of NATIONS, and joined later by the USA as 52th nation, gave the Jewish nation IRREVOCABLE RIGHTS in INTERNATIONAL LAW, valid to this day and REAFIRMED by the UNITED NATIONS trough ARTICLE 80 of its CHARTER ? Just to remind all of you the contends of the League's vote, known as the "MANDATE FOR PALESTINE": this Mandate gave the Jews an embryo of a state and the IRREVOCABLE RIGHT to settle anywhere in the area between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River. Even Prof. Eugene Rostow, Dean of the School of Law of Yale, and author of UN RESOLUTION 242, the cornerstone of the till today's diplomacy in the Middle-East, took into consideration the League's decisions, and wrote about "withdrawal FROM territories" and not from THE territories. He explained his 242 Resolution in various articles. "The Future of Palestine" is a must to be read. (You can find it on Internet ! ) So Mr. Prime Minister Netanyahu, it is NOW, LATER WILL BE TOO LATE !!! TRUTH MUST PREVAIL !!!
2. full of it
alexi   (10.20.11)
ariana, you are full of it. Bibi'sbehaviour was sobre, proper and he was the one who prevented bargouti and saadat from being released whereas your hero ehud olmert, the darling of barnea and verter and a gutless wimp would have released them in a second. And bibi did not do this easily but in the end to save a life is to save the world. Going forward idf has to do 3 things- 1)all soldiers have to have unlimited freddom to shoot and not to seek permission and they have to cover their backs because hamas digs behind their positions. 2) if a soldier is taken, there has to be quick extraction force on it right away 3) any arabs in the area have to be taken as trade bait along with some of the leaders of hamas like haniyeh, zahar, masri and taha. Finally what is with dagan with this stupid pronouncements. he reminds me of barak. He was a good mossad leader and now he says dumb things about iran and now the trade. He then says good things about halutz, a failed chief of staff, one of the worst with his arrogance, lack of understanding of asymmetric ground warfare. Generals like barak, dagan, even rabin are not the best ones to lead the israeli nation because they do not have strong conviction and they become pacifists because of guilt over what they have done.Sharon was the exception but at the end he listened to olmert and that fool mitzna and did not secure the gaza withdrawal.Philadelphi should not have been abandoned and us, un and nato guarantees are worthless in the middle east.
3. oh...and im sure no other PM would have done the same
JL   (10.20.11)
4. You pathetic woman
Z ,   Tekoa, Israel   (10.20.11)
Bibi is a politician, and what is YOUR excuse?
5. Who demanded the media circus?
Sam   (10.20.11)
I noticed that all the media channels devoted special coverage to Shalit return (which Melamed's article is a part of). If that is wrong than this article should never have been written and if there is to be an official meeting to welcome Gilad back then there is no rational reason for the the PM not to be there nor for him to prevent pictures being taken. This is just a lowgrade tantrum from someone who lacks the originality to write something newsworthy about Shalit's return.
6. re the blabber about the philadelphi
eporue ,   europe   (10.20.11)
what do you think would happen, when israel sat in the philadelphi corridor ? you would be attacked from the left and from the right, 24-7....non-stop... looks nice on the map, but in reality it would be a nightmare...
7. im not really his fan... but i found the welcome by military
eporue ,   europe   (10.20.11)
and the PM quite adequate... he was dressed as soldier as soon as he entered israel and somehow appropriately welcomed... also, in this short video here, bibi appeared to me at least 30 % what is unprecedented for me..... barak and gantz and the others around were awesome: caring and nice and all that in a very honest, true and modest way... i really liked it... what if they had "dumped" him straight at home ? without any further comments ?
8. I don't see a problem
JP ,   USA   (10.20.11)
Why can't the leader of his own country escort his own former soldier that was abducted? You can dislike his policies, but he did nothing that I wouldn't do.
9. Poor soul. Grinding her axe on Netanyahu.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (10.20.11)
Such deep resentment against Netanyahu - she and Lapid. They are so incensed that Bibi is getting some credit for bringing back Shalit home. They don't even want to acknowledge that HE took the decision for the swap to go through. So petty - they have written lines upon lines of nonsense to vent their anger.
10. Bibi has every right to bask in the glory of Gilad's release
Daniel ,   Holland   (10.20.11)
No doubt you blamed him all those years Gilad was in captivity. So I don't understand why we should not ' blame' him for his release as well.
11. He just can't win with you people, can he
Susi Goldstein ,   Israel   (10.20.11)
When he did nothing to release Shalit, you complained - called him heartless and other choice words. Now that he helped free Shalit, you complain that he was in the picture too much. You people need some serious psychological therapy.
12. Silly
nolan ,   Modiin   (10.20.11)
You are very silly to write this article.yes,i agree that the pm did a lot of things aimed to secure his next term, but i disagree that any president or pm would not be intimately invloved in any such proceedings and i also think that any responsible pm should be involved since he is the leader of the country
13. Totally idiotic article, Ynet!
Observer 1 ,   Chrangbegbo, Ghana   (10.20.11)
14. FOOL!
Steve ,   Raaanana   (10.20.11)
Some people will find fault with the PM no matter what he does. This writer does not do herself proud but shows that she is a fool.
15. in #7 i mean "30 % authentic/honest"
eporue ,   europe   (10.20.11)
16. sorry, dont know what i wrote there in #7
eporue ,   europe   (10.20.11)
i mean: im not bibis fan, and that he appeared 30 % authentic and honest to me, in contrary to everything i saw before of him... im gilad fan, not that there is any misundrstanding...
17. The Grand Bibi Show
Charles Shohet ,   New York, USA   (10.20.11)
I disagree with your Opinion. The Prime Minister represents the State & people of Israel.
18. Lame Article
ACortez ,   Anaheim, CA, USA   (10.20.11)
If Bibi does nothing about Shalit then the left will denounce him. If Bibi frees Shalit then he is denounced. Bibi can't win and I don't understand the hypocrisy of articles such as these. What happened to the practical people of the world?
19. Lack of 3D : discenment, decency, deed
Avram Goldsmith ,   Toronto, Canada   (10.20.11)
Bibi react in context of circumstance dictated by events, and urgent need to abandon the selfrigteousness consience syndrom and react in such manner that will neverdare even to think about it.
20. MEANWHILE IT WAS BIBI THAT GOT HIM BACK, NOT LIVNI OLDEMERDE
SUPERJEW ,   AMERICA THE BEAUTIUL   (10.20.11)
Or anyone else in the drivers seat..... BiBi is a decorated paratroop, lost his soldier brother...Barak also a highly decorated soldier! THey know what it's like to be an ISRAELI SOLDIER... Israel is lucky to have These real MEN now in charge, (unlike the GD'd wimpy myopic asses' patoot like ex IDF WAR minister peretz (that inept hyper-dangerous fool who sent 22 IDF soldiers to their premature demise..) as well as OLDEMERDE the envelope man who would give Israel away for the sake of a microphone and his pix in the newspapers...Good riddance to bad garbage.
21. Bizarre case of sour grapes
george ,   ashdod   (10.20.11)
This has to be the bizarre case of sour grapes ever printed on Ynet. Ariana's disgust with Netanyahu being PM permeates every word of the piece. She's not angry that Netanyahu met Shalit when he got off the helicopter; she's angry because it wasn't Tzipi Livni. I didn't even support the prisoner exchange, but good grief, cut Bibi some slack.
22. No reason to use this to bash Bibi.
noa ,   israel   (10.20.11)
If leaders are not praised for doing good things, they won't continue to do them. All of us do things out of self-identification or self-interest. But he did it and that's what counts, and I for one, am thankful for it. Kol Ha Kavod, Bibi!
23. 3 & 4
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (10.20.11)
Be sure that no other Prime Minister worth anything would have behaved in this disgusting fashion. There are a few who aren't worth much, you must mean them. Pathos in the sense of pity and sadness is precisely what Netanyahu lacked and lacks. Any caring individual, caring for Gilad and his family in this context, and seeing how shaky Gilad was, would have taken a back seat. But not Netanyahu for whom the image of himself is all.
24. Melamed just ticked that Bibi guaranteed himself re-election
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (10.20.11)
25. #1 Excellent post, FO
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (10.20.11)
You are too generous ;-) ..The mandate included today's Jordan. We give them a finger..they want a hand. We give them a hand, they want an arm. Give them an arm they want the whole body. Enough already..just give them the finger. They earned it
26. Arguably the best Leader in the world.
The 11th Man ,   London   (10.20.11)
27. This is definitely correct
Shmuel ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.20.11)
OK, so even if "every PM" would have milked this opportunity as Netanyahu did, what about all the other disgusting examples of his inserting himself before the cameras in the most obvious propaganda manners? He really is a joke. No substance. No agenda. No principles. Only one goal- stay in office. No matter what.
28. Obama took credit for killing Bin Laden what's your point?
Susi Goldstein ,   ISRAEL   (10.20.11)
29. Bibi is a great leader!!! im proud of him!
Ester   (10.20.11)
30. One problem
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (10.20.11)
The people who were demanding that Shalit be exchanged "at any price" were all from the Left and would never vote for Netanyahu, even after his surrender. 99% of Netanyahu voters were against the surrender to Hamas and release of terrorists. Netanyahu gained nothing from this move, and if anything he may have lost votes. Melamed is totally wrong.
