1. Humanitary Aid ?
Mark ,   T.a. Israel   (10.23.11)
Again Erdogan's criminal approche to the disaster by refusing the humanitarian aid offered by Israel ! For him politics are above all ! He has no empathy for the earthquake victims agonysing under the rubble !!
2. tragic
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (10.23.11)
What a peevish, spiteful, and ultimately murderous government, declining aid! People who could be saved will die, as a result of this absurd show of side.
3. The reason: The quake hit close to Kurdish territory
Charles ,   Paris, FRANCE   (10.23.11)
I bet Erdogan doesn't want any aid because he doesn't want hordes of foreigners trekking to Kurdish territory, where they can see for themselves what he's doing to the Kurdish people.
4. What Would the Turks Do?
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (10.23.11)
While I favor Israel aiding in these situations...it seems like they are again bending over backwards to help their enemies. Do the Turks deserve it? Considering Turkey has almost declared war on Israel for mining in the Eastern Med..and having as an ally Cypruss..and ALLOWED the flotiall to set sail ( knowing the consequence) why would Israel do anything for this regime. On the other hand..it shows that Israel, believing in a just and compassionate G-d, and not Jihad ( killing of innocents for religious reasons), realy does turn the other cheeki. Reverse, Turkey would not offer the Jews anything but mayhem and murder.
5. Erdogan says he needs no aid....fine..
Malone ,   Hfx   (10.23.11)
I'm sure the average Turk will just love him for that...I would also wager that he is telling his people that Israel refused to help, when in fact they were among the first to offer.
6. For Erdogan to refuse Israeli expertise..
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (10.23.11)
in these critical hours after the earthquake is dumb. So many more lives could be saved. I wonder what his response would have been had it struck NW Turkey again?
7. Not time for political caprices
Borislava ,   Sofia, Bulgaria   (10.23.11)
They must accept any help
8. FAIR ENOUGH
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (10.24.11)
Let the stubborn turks deal with their problem unaided.
9. Given the Severity...
Douglas Fireman ,   Chicago, USA   (10.24.11)
of the Turkish earthquake, there could be hundreds if not thousands of trapped earthquake victims. However, up until now, Erdogan and his government have refused all offers for help from other countries- another instance of placing politics above the lives of Turkey's dieing and injured citizens.
10. Re: #4. The Turks sent firefighting planes during the fires
Kanard ,   New York   (10.24.11)
It is only civil and reasonable to offer Turkey all possible humanitarian aid to help them with their catastrophe. Turkey is not an enemy.
11. Fool
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (10.24.11)
So Turkey has refused ALL aid feeling they can do it themselves. Like other nations who tried this path they will eat their words on the lives of their citizens. Turkey doesn't want its new allies to think it is weak. Requesting aid, from ANYBODY will show they aren't as strong as they claim to be. Good--the lives that could have been saved will be on Turkey's head and the various countries that could have, would have, sent aid will keep the monies that would have been expanded in their own treasuries.
12. Earthquake
Simcha ,   So.Cal.USA   (10.24.11)
#4 It doesn't matter whether they deserve it. The people are hurting and our obligation is to help. We must not paint all the people with the same brush that is used for the govt. there. Techan olam is what matters.
13. Waiting for the big one
commenter ,   ger   (10.24.11)
There is another quake to come, sciencists awaited it for long and it's going to hit Istanbul with its predominantly illegaly-built structures (two thirds or so?). They surrendered to it, before it even comes, sewing tents for the survivors instead of erasing instable structures, the writing is on the wall for the AKP to read.
14. #10 Kanard
commenter ,   ger   (10.24.11)
Turkey is not an enemy? Depends on who you are, if you happen to be a Kurd in northern Iraq, or some sort of eastern christian, (...or Israel), sure they're your enemy.
15. why Israel bother?
mary of Bethany ,   singapore   (10.24.11)
16. No. 10 Kanard
NYC Girl   (10.24.11)
I agree that Turkey should be offered whatever humanitarian aid possible...and the Israelis did. However, while the Turkish people may not be an enemy, unfortunately, Erdogan's regime is. Their ongoing threats against Israel are overtly hostile and intended by Erdogan to ingratiate himself with the Islamists...which bodes ill not only for Israel, but for the U.S. and Europe as well.
17. It's because Kurds are affected
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.24.11)
Turkey is presently massacring Kurds in Iraq. Clearly they are not interested in saving Kurds in Turkey. Disgraceful. Maybe the next earthquake hits in an area populated by Turks, and Turkey will run screaming to the international community .... who will decline to assist.
18. Signs, Signs, the mercy of signs
Reu ,   Country   (10.24.11)
That's good now Israel can prepare for it's own Quake, the Quake of all quakes, "No stone upon another" cause it's coming, the big one Yeshua prophicied of.
19. erdogan and the turkeys
joel ,   usa   (10.24.11)
this is just a warning from the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to mr erdogan and turks that he is in control of all situation and that israel is under His protection, ha, ha, ha!
20. Pity
Bilge ,   Ankara, Turkey   (10.24.11)
No, any average Turk would hate him! And we are aware the countries offered help. But it's not time for politics. You hate Turks? It's ok, that's your racist attitude but at least have some mercy and do not start politic arguments on the victims. I agree that it's such a childish act of government while there are people can't find even water there! We, citizens send clothes, blankets, water and anything we can find in our homes via some free mail offered. It's freezing out there and they need any help. And there are still people stucked. I hope they come to their sense asap.
21. accually
anton ,   istanbul turkey   (10.24.11)
i think its just israels offer thats been declined cause bulgarian, azeri and iranian teams are in the quake hit city searching
22. I believe victims all screaming for help as nothing coming from Ankara
Alan ,   SA   (10.24.11)
23. I think Turk govt doesnt want outsiders to see whats going on there
Alan ,   SA   (10.24.11)
24. Thank you for offering help
Emre ,   Istanbul   (10.24.11)
Thanks to all Israeli people and government to offer us help by this tragic disaster. Unfortunaltely we are an earthquake country and these things happen almost every 10 years in Turkey. We should avoid politics by these kind of disasters. I wish our Erdogan would think also in this way. Thanks once again....
25. Erdogan proves he is a fool again
Eran ,   Singapore   (10.24.11)
by declining Israeli aid. We know that there are at least 1000 dead in this catastrophy. Time is very critical to save the ones buried in the rubble. Erdogan, how much aw Turkish life is worth to you if you play politics as priority?
26. Im not really interested this time.
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (10.24.11)
After the way Erdogan has been acting in the last couple of years, Im not interested in my country helping them. And in the middle of it, the people reelected him. He is such good friends with Ahmenanutjob, does he think Iran will send rescue teams? I predicted this day would come.
27. The Erdogan ego strikes again
zionist forever   (10.24.11)
Weather it comes from Israel or Iran it doesn't matter Turkey needs aid after this but Erdogan once again shows ego comes first and logic second. That idiot wants to show Turkey as a world power that doesn't need anybody so he refuses aid whilst more Turks die than need to because there are fewer recourses. This whole mess with Erdogan wanting an apology over the Mavi Mara and his desire for a small war with Israel is all about projecting Turkeys image as a major power in global affairs with him at its helm. Now his ego is being extended to earthquake relief... what a leader If Erdogan doesn't want our help then lets not push him, it will mean we have extra recourses to helpa future disaster zone, this time in a country thats little more grateful.
28. Turk thinking fogged by testosterone. How sad.
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (10.24.11)
Instead of thinking about saving lives, the Turkish leaders are thinking about their egos and the lengths of their Turkish delights. Lives could be saved, but Erdogan's pride won't allow it. How Turkish of him.
29. To 17
sipahi ,   istanbul   (10.24.11)
You are a shame for the entire humanity.
30. Erdogan Demands Apology from God
Ira Nee ,   Jerusalem   (10.24.11)
I think it has become obvious over the last few months that Erdogan needs help.
