There is no possible way the Abbas-PLO-PA regime is going to regain control over Gaza. Hamas is never going to go along with any peace deal they involved recognizing the Jewish State, that involves abandoning the idiotic Right of Return (to Israel), that involves total demilitarization of the PA state. And Israel will never agree to any peace deal that doesn't include all this at a minumum. Borders and Jerusalem and Jewish settlements and construction are irrelevant to the "peace process" because Hamastan will never agree to Israel's minimum requirements no matter what Israel (or Abbas) does. The only way forward is destruction of the rejectionist regime in Gaza - there WAS military solution to the Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka. But don't expect Israel to shed IDF blood fighting Abbas' civil war for him. If Israel has to fight to oust Hamas and Islamic Jihad, Gaza properly becomes Israeli and Jewish, and is off the table aspart of a PA state. The Arabs there can pay the same price as the Sudeten Germans for their racism and greed - they go.

Why should Israel be expected to offer Abbas any "gestures"? That whole concept is just total nonsense.

The last thing Israel needs is a Quartet "miracle"; code for more lunatic Israeli concessions. The Quartet needs to get lost and mind it's own business. It has nothing good to offer Israel. Let the Quartet use it's highly dubious skills to bail out Europe; which is flirting with bankruptcy on a continental scale. Europe is much closer to home, for the Quartet, than Israel.

How can there ever be successful negotiations when Netanyahu-Lieberman keep saying that "peace is not possible?" They are only stalling, delaying, playing games. Everybody knows that.

Time for the Quartet to toss it in and quit trying. If and when the two sides want to resolve the differences AND if both want mediation, then, and only than should the Quartet bother to try. AND Then only if the two sides jointly invite mediation.

Why would Abbas agree to substantial negotiations at a time when he is telling his people that he can achieve everything they demand without any negotiations? It would make him seem weak to back down now, and why would he want to when he knows that no one in the Quartet will hold him accountable for his hostile actions? The Quartet's members made negotiations impossible the moment they decided to tolerate, and in some cases encourage, the PA's unilateral approach. Furthermore, the Quartet's pattern of always holding Israel solely responsible for the advancement of peace talks is what has motivated the Palestinians to skip out, knowing that, as always, Israel will be the one who is blamed.
