eddie ,   london Uk   (10.26.11)
The british submarine industry is in difficulty, so perhaps Israel can help by taking its business to UK :)
2. Obama started this gilo obsession
jason ,   haifa israel   (10.26.11)
Yet the ed koch's of the world still support obama. He has been an utter disaster for israel. Arafat never even brought up gilo and it wasn't mentioned until obama. Everyone knew it would stay with israel in a deal.
3. Buy russian submarines!
Yossef   (10.26.11)
4. Do we really need 6 submarines???
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (10.26.11)

5. IT IS 5 MINITES BEFORE MIDNIGHT ...
FO ,   Belgium   (10.26.11)
Mr. Prime Minister Netanyahu, IT IS 5 MINUTES BEFORE MIDNIGHT !!! Put on the table NOW, all documents related to Israel's rights to settle anywhere in the area between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River. UNREVOCABLE RIGHTS obtained by the unanimous vote at the LEAGUE OF NATIONS, the 24th of July 1922. The League's decisions, called the "MANDATE FOR PALESTINE" became INTERNATIONAL LAW, are unaltered and valid to this day and were reaffirmed by ARTICLE 80 of the CHARTER of the UNITED NATIONS ! Germany was one of the 51 members of the League of Nations, and voted together with the other 50 members in favour of the MANDATE. It is not because HITLER left the League, that Germany today may consider itself as not bound anymore to the League's decisions ! Mr. PM, make this clear to Chancellor Merkel, as well to the European Union, and as well as to the United States, who not being a member of the League of Nations, signed the "Mandate for Palestine" as the 52th nation. Do it NOW Mr. PM. Later may be TOO LATE. HISTORICAL TRUTH MUST PREVAIL !!!
6. Instead being granted 135 million euros from..
Keren ,   IL-BR   (10.26.11)
a Germany's "packet aid",would not it be better to talk to Jewish particular donateurs around the world to perform the task? At least with them Israel is free from these pernicious tights that these nations ultimately represent. Let us be frank...
7. ISRAEL SHOULD BOX CLEVER
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (10.26.11)
Wait .Do NOT build in east Jerusalem nor contested parts of Jerusalem .Wait and receive the sixth submarine and then build tens of thousands of homes ion Jerusalem .Fuck 'em . And the krauts are not the only nation who can build submarines ,advanced though they are . Germans should be glad for the jobs and should keep their traps shut regarding criticising the jewish state ,especially considering germanys' nazi past.
8. Self Righteous Hypocrites
Eric ,   Germany   (10.26.11)
Lets see them threaten the US and Britian with the same nonsense. A bunch of hypocrites. They support the war in Afghanistan, Iraq where thousands and thousands of civilians have been killed. They say nothing about Syria. But when Israel decides to build housing in an area owned by Jews then they are outraged.
9. To 4 - Depends
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (10.26.11)
It depends on what your needs are for destroying shipping and making missile attacks from mobile locations. They also have an intimidation factor, but only when the other guy knows you're around.
10. @1
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (10.26.11)
Yeah, we all know the enthousiasm Israel generates in Britain....
11.  'German sub deal at risk'
ISSY DYKMAN ,   ISRAEL   (10.26.11)

12. Merkel is a bad joke and her days in office
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (10.26.11)

13. Gaddafi is gone and Merkel will also go !
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (10.26.11)
GODSPEED...!!!!!!
14. Other Dielsel-electric sub makers
David N. ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.26.11)
A fleet of subs makes good sense for Israel. I'd like to see the fleet stabilized at 9-12 total. Why? In a word, huge defensive, deterence and offensive potential in a stealthy, highly mobile platform. Like the US, Britain only makes only very large nuclear powered subs now. I believe the Upholder-class sold to Canada were their last diesel-electrics. Otherwise, Britain has a superb sub-building history. Sweden and the Netherlands also make some great diesel-electrics, and China, and Japan. Britain and the US partly regret giving up the making of these quiet, stealthy shallow-draft subs. They can hunt and kill aircraft carriers and big nuke subs. Anyway, Israel could do well with a larger sub fleet.
15. #12-13 If aren’t Merkel and Sarkozy
Borislava ,   Sofia, Bulgaria   (10.26.11)
the neighbors (in Greece) will live only with olives and sea water. And sirtaki :)
16. #2 Netanyahu did
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (10.26.11)
As soon as Netanyahu bent over for Obama and agreed to prevent Jews from building in the rest of Judea and Samaria, Obama simply tightened the noose and said "what about Gilo and Ramot?" If and when Netanyahu gives up on Gilo, Obama will demand freezing of Jewish building in the Old City, Mamilla, Rehavia, Galil and Negev. As for Merkel: she will have to decide whether thousands of unemployed German dockworkers are worth getting the Jew. I, for one, suggest buying Russian, Indian or Chinese.
17. Is there an Article in the Purchase Areement
Devorah   (10.26.11)
stating that, if Merkel gets her bloomers in a knot over Israeli new construction, the Agreement is then rendered null and void?
18. Germany our friend?
Phil ,   Flushing,USA   (10.26.11)
On the surface the German government pledges support, but behind the scenes they have stabbed us in the back many times. Their underhanded dealings with Iran and other anti Israel countries has caused us much grief. The submarine deterrent is because of the help German banks and companies have given Iran to circumvent the imposed sanctions. The audacity of Merkel to tell us where Jews can live in Israel is shameful. She should stop acting high and holy, and instead apologize for the grief her country causes Israel from the pain and suffering that was inflicted by her nation upon us. Does Germany think that the Shoah occurred so long ago, because they have properly compensated us in the past. The answer is no! There repentance is to make sure with all their heart that the Jewish state of Israel flourishes, and can properly protect their people. AM YISRAEL CHAI!
19. Why six submarines?
David M.   (10.26.11)
Israel should continue to build. The controversy over Jerusalem is only a pretext for Germany to distance themselves from Israel. Mr. Obama made snubbing Israel acceptable. After he is gone in 2012 the Europeans will change their tune as well. Also, the German economy is not doing too well these days. If Israel stands firm and doesn't capitulate they will come around. Finally, as poster #5 said, does Israeli army really need six submarines? If five are not a sufficient deterrent one more won't make a crucial difference.
20. Blackmail by the Merkel
Brod ,   USA   (10.26.11)
If they use this tactic, Israel should stop buying sub from Germany. Make your own sub. There is no need to depend on other countries who meddle in Israel's internal affairs. Israel can get S. Korea to be a partner. S. Korea is a strong Judeo-Christian country-72% of its population are Judeo-Christians.
21. What a Set Up
Bob ,   Efrat   (10.26.11)
What nonsense, It's the good cop / bad cop routine all over again. Obama can't put pressure on Israel or risk losing (G-d willing) the election, so he threatens us by way of all countries, Germany. Why, because WE, won't make concessions to abbas who has violated oslo, refuses negotiations and ignores the so called quartet, etc, etc, etc. This much BS could fertilize an entire country. We need to stand our ground, this is only the first of what will be a never ending series of concessions that will bring us to the brink of suicide.
22. ideology trumps security
John de Frece ,   Ramat Gsn   (10.26.11)
As usual - fantacism of the Right will always outtrump our legitimate security requirements . Everything subordinated to the settler lobby which now controls the country completely
23. Simens systems power Iranian nuke quest
ab   (10.26.11)
and Germany is Iran's biggest trade partner. Prospects of a hundreds of German shipyard workers reverting to dole as result of cancellation pales in comparison with influx of Iranian oil money to Nundesrepublik. If not Gilio Merkel would have found something else.Build in defiance of her.
24. Tell Merkel to stuff it sideways.
Wise Saba ,   Ma'agalim   (10.26.11)
Germany is not the only country that builds submarines. I'm sure China would be happy to build one for us. BTW the British are no better than the Germans when it comes to Israel.
25. Merkel is a fan of Iran and she always
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (10.26.11)
promotes the German- Iranian trade ties...Has anyone ever seen a TWO FACED snake...Take a look !

Salma ,   Palestine   (10.26.11)
27. the writing on the wall
Michael ,   Haifa   (10.26.11)
There will be more and more "price tags" from around the world to be paid, in response to illegal settlements
28. Waekness begets weakness...
Al   (10.26.11)
They see Netanyahu is weak and so they zone in to his weakness. At the same time Europe is tanking and is about to go bust. What does Europe do ever so well when the shit hits the fan? They kill eachother at the drop of the hat.
29. to # 4 judah
fad egypt   (10.26.11)
no , israel needs to spend on its defense especially when it comes to the navy , israel needs to develop it , and to increase its submarine fleet and its war ships , in order to face the threats from iran and any potential threats israel also needs to spend on its air force , and missile defense systems so it deserves spending on defense i believe that germany cant be trusted because germany is known for its economic cooperation with iran , so it doesnt care about the strategic threat of iran to israel or the west shalom
30. There's one thing ...
dapperdanman ,   K. Vary, Czech Rep.   (10.26.11)
... in this so called "renewal of talks" I really don't get: Why on Earth doesn't Israel set up some preconditions for the renewal of the talks, like the Arabs do? Just tell them to hold elections first, so we can see, who's the trusted amongst them. Second, the newly elected please renounce the right of return for the Pals over the '67 lines they want us to recognize before the talks start. So let them renounce this, before the talks start - it's obvious, that no Arab will return to Israel, just as they say it's obvious, that the future Pal state will be, more or less, inside the '67 lines, which is the reason for the preconditions they set.
