61. Israel vs Iran
Daniel ,   Los Angeles, USA   (10.29.11)
this is a very reasonable assessment you've made. Israel does have the bunker buster bombs that the U.S. gave them so it wouldn't be a surprise that Israel launches the first strike. When that happens Iran is probably going to launch a barrage of missles toward Israel and with Iron Dome and other missile defense systems still in their infancy, I don't think it would be the best time for Israel to strike. Let them build up their missile defenses first, then launch the attack with America's help and we would have taken down an evil aggressor in the region.
62. Here we go..
Daniel ,   Los Angeles, USA   (10.29.11)
I'll take that bet, let's make it 5000. Obama is a peacenik, Israel will be first to strike.
63. #48 We'll never forget that we had it coming, will we ??

64. I always thought that the best way to deal with Iran would
leo ,   usa   (10.29.11)
be to wait mullahs out. When is next presidential elections in Iran? In 2013? After 2009 it became evident that successful revolution in Iran is very much probable to happen no later than that. That is the very reason why Hamenei today is considering to forgo elections by removing presidential post all together. I personally think it will only make matters worst for him if he were to have done so. I think Israel still has time to wait until summer of 2013 before acting militarily.
65. About that Samson Option..
Sylvie ,   USA   (10.29.11)
I think number 13 does not understand the words of number 7. It is not stating that Iran will be able to overcome such an attack, and be victorious here. He is reminding us of a serious possiblity... this has the potential to annihilate most of the middle east! And the chances of that spreading to all countries around the world in short order... well that too, has great potential. It isn't about a country dominating another country. Its about billions of innocent civilians being effected on a scale we have never fortunately seen. Leaders of countries should consider options such as the "Samson Option" a very silly response to any threat. It reeks of cruelty really. Willing to bring the entire middle east down? Willing to bring countless fatalities and suffering for billions? Really?

Sarah B made a number of excellent points. I do not necessarily agree 100% with what she said, but at least she did better than launch pathetic, impotent personal attacks. She actually discussed the subject at hand, which is more than you are apparently capable of doing. Iran is a threat and a serious one, pri marily becuase of the lunatics who are running the place there - and I don't mean just the mad mullahs.
68. Sarah B: vile, misinformed Bi......
mba ,   Israel   (10.29.11)
How much vile and venom can one JAP disperse? If words were weapons Sarah B could defeat the entire world (as she thinks all are anti Israel, anit semitic,). When the rockets (unconventional according to Sarah) start to fall, I wonder where dear Sarah will be, in the USA or in Israel. Is it just a Fruedian slip that she lists: Sarah B. / U.S.A. / Israel? As for the Yom Kippur War, for fthe first six days on the Syrian fromt it was nip and tuck (I was there). If it hadn't been for the Syrians relying on the Russian doctrine of tank warfare (look it up and do your homework next time) they would have been in Tiberias or even Haifa in the first days of the war. After the Syrian strategic mistake, our remaining miniscule tank force managed to bluff the Syrians into believing we had reinforced our armored units. Please, for everyone sake, stop over estimating our military and it's capabilities. We are a very strong, smart, small army and our strenght is in our ability to improvise. We are not the English, American, or Russians and should not forget this fact.
69. @ Sarah B
Sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (10.29.11)
Sarah B there is no way Israel can justify a Nuclear strike on Iran unless Iran uses WMD first. This isn't 1967 or 1973 so stop fighting wars that happened 40 years ago or look 30 years (1943) before 1973 and get a mental picture of how much the world changes. The world is a lot smaller and technology has progressed dramatically. I believe you are out of touch with reality in believing that Israel will use those dreaded weapons. It is an insane thought at best. Do your self a favor and research the effects of nuclear weapons. The military, economic, political fall out from such a strike will do more damage to Israel than all of the combined military, diplomatic efforts to date. Not even the US veto will stop the world from taking action. The only country that can stop Iran is the US period and end of story. The US even though weakened some what is still the baddest kid on the block with unrivaled military power and strategic depth. Israel has a great military but it too recognizes its limitations.
70. To: No. 31
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.29.11)
Actually, I live in Israel six months out of the year. You, on the other hand, live in the friendly confines of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Shut up. You are the RABID (note proper spelling) dog who HIDES.
71. To: No. 39
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.29.11)
Well, since the current speculation among security experts is that Israel has compromised Iran's command and control systems, the likelihood is that any Shahab fired at Israel will be turned around and dropped in Iran .... you need to get caught up on current events. Duh.
72. The post at No. 38 is not mine
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.29.11)
"Gunna?" "Taktichians?" "Arognant?" Not even close, ya'habibi. Try harder next time. Make sure to learn English first.
73. To: No. 48
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.29.11)
Neither will Israel. The USS LIBERTY was a signals interceptor (i.e., spy ship) that was sent off the coast of Haifa when it became painfully evident that the Arabs were taking a serious beating. Egypt was already completely defeated. Jordan and Syria were in the process of being soundly thrashed, and it was clear that Israel would take both the Golan Heights and the West Bank. Then-President Lyndon Johnson is said to have personally given the order to have the USS LIBERTY intercept Israeli military communications -- while Israel was still engaged in a shooting war on two fronts -- and relay the contents of those communications to the military high commands of both Jordan and Syria. That is why the USS LIBERTY was blown out of the water. No other country in the world would have acted any differently. As I said at the top, Israel will never forget, either.
74. To: No. 68
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.29.11)
I'll answer the only question you pose of any worth: I will be in Israel. It's spelled "Freudian," by the way, and the only reason I list the U.S.A. first is because I was born, raised and educated in the U.S. Israel became a part of my life when I was already an adult. But while I am extraordinarily grateful to the United States for giving my concentration camp survivor parents a safe place to raise and educate their children, my hear and soul will always belong to Israel. I don't over-estimate Israel's military capabilities. Neither do I under-estimate Israel's non-conventional arsenal. If we have to bring it out, we should, and to hell with world opinion. I know most of the world would like nothing better than to see Israel roll over and die, and I am not prepared to do that. I don't care how many million Arabs or Moslems have to die. The words "Never Again" mean something to me. I grew up staring at the numbers tattooed on my parents' arms. NEVER AGAIN. I don't much care what it takes to achieve, and I know better than to trust empty promises.
75. Iran has every right to develop, through nuclear energy.
Timothy MacAren ,   New York, USA   (10.29.11)
Iran is scared of Israel. Very scared I'd say. Israel has every man-created weapon, and more. And that is Iran's yapping and clapping and grumping. Iran is Jeff Dunhamm's Achmed. No reason to get worked up by them. During first-Netanyahu he asked to Pentagon Israeli-American officials, what could happen to Israel in the worst scenario and how to deal with it; the result was Richard Perle's 1996 "A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm". Inside Perle defines Iran/Iraq/Syria as "The Axle"(Israel has to destroy The Axle because they are sworn to destroy Israel.) Netanyahu from then on is parroting "destroy Iran/Iraq/Syria", "destroy Iran/Iraq/Syria", "destroy Iran/Iraq/Syria", "destroy Iran/Iraq/Syria". But we have to understand that that is paranoiac. Iraq is out, destroyed already. Syria is totally under control. Iran is yapping. That is true. But that is all what it is; a yapping. We should never let that get us out of balance, and run desperado to provoke such a huge conflagration. My guess is, and I as everybody am entitled to my opinion, that since all the late problems weakened Bibi, he needs something to galvanize the people behind him. His answer is: Iran. That is no good, for me.
76. To: No. 69
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.29.11)
How did the United States justify two nuclear strikes on Japan? Did that constitute a war crime? Period. End of story. Shut up. Go back to shake, rattling and rolling -- given the context of your posts, that's your milieu. Don't address subjects of actual intellectual worth. Leave that aspect to the people that actually possess brains.

Blah, blah, blah. "I like them they Love me" ..... Not with your English language incapabalities, they don't. Do not flatter yourself. You are an idiot.
82. Is Obama Against It
EJ ,   Boca USA   (10.29.11)
The whole world is not against Iranian nukes. Many in the Administration including Biden have openly called on Israel to not strike Iran. Many in Obama's circle have floated the idea of dealing with a nuclear Iran including the idea of mutual assured destruction if it lights up 6 million Israeli Jews. Gee what an idea but what else would you expect from an extreme leftist anti religious Administration that is filled with hard left wing academics and theorists.
83. TIME IS SHORT
John Dodge ,   Tucson, USA   (10.29.11)
The time to strike Iran a devasting blow is fast approaching! They are busily making plans to attack Israel from all sides. Israel must strike Iranian Military and nuclear sites with overwhelming force, even nukes. Once Iran is crippled, most mideast violence will cease. Don't listen to Obama and the European cowards. They will let Israel go down without a thought.
84. To: John at No. 83
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.29.11)
Thank you. I appreciate your concern, but there really is no need to worry. Israel isn't going anywhere. If we do, we're taking a major portion of the world with us, and we will render the rest uninhabitable for 100,000 years. I don't think it will come to that, but if it has to, it will. We will not go alone gently into that good night, ever again. That resolve resonates rather deeply among Jews.
85. #36 yossi - LOL
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.29.11)
1. Iran does not need nuclear power. The Russian reactors are a cover. They are enriching uranium beyond what is needed for nuclear power. Not to mention developing missles; and all of this as secretly as possible. 2. The blockade is a direct result of Hamas, which could also stand to learn from social justice. Israel left Gaza, remember? And they got terrorism in return. 3. You believe what Iran says? The only thing to believe is their threats to annihilate Israel. Why don't you also mention all the terrorist groups they support. 4. Your eyes and ears are shut. And your name is not yossi, nor are you from TA.
86. #66 arn - Amen.

solomon ,   bklyn   (10.29.11)
Iran has threatened Israel with annihilation. They support many and varied terrorists throughout the world. They were involved in the bombing of the US Marine and French barracks in Lebanon, in the bombing of Israeli institutions in Argentina. They kill their own people. Iran is not the lily white pure country you make them out to be. Israel has done none of the above. I rest my case.
88. #48, #73 USS Liberty
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.29.11)
From all official sources I have read, it was a case of mistaken identity. Israel stopped shooting as soon as the mistake was discovered. They paid reparations. BTW: The Liberty was ordered out of the area by the US Navy but never received the order. If you know better than the inquiries conducted, maybe you should run for the post of Clairvoyant of the United States of America.
89. To Sarah #48
montello ,   Spanaway, USA   (10.29.11)
So you are saying that Lyndon Johnson was an evil man who ordered the Liberty to intercept Israeli signals and then he ordered them given to the Arab armies? Why? Where did this information come from?
90. Repeat of USS Liberty Unlikely
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (10.30.11)
After the Liberty disaster and the USS Stark, the US Navy does not send unarmed ships anywhere near war zones. The politicians think the Liberty was a mistaken ID situation. But no USN Captain will go anywhere near a war zone without the ship defensed in the fully 'on' position and the crew on alert. No aircraft or other flying object would approach with impunity regardless of nationality. Of note, a USN ship felt threatened in the Persian Gulf in the 80s by the flight path of an airliner. The airliner was shot out of the air and the Captain was not even reprimanded. Today, a reprimand may or may no be indicated.
