Julie ,   Tel Aviv   (11.03.11)
It's soooo infinitely not Jewish what he said! Are we turning into the catholic church here?
32. to #16 I guess you r not fan of reality TV shows

33. Perhaps a shreimel in lieu of a baseball cap?
BAB ,   jerusalem   (11.03.11)
34. To expect Shalit to be grateful is a waste of time
Ilan   (11.03.11)
We didn't free murderers because of what kind of person Shalit was. It was done because he was a soldier when captured. He doesn't own us or anyone else gratitude and the expectation is simply stupid and naive.
35. Gilad Shalit
Steve a ,   manchester England   (11.03.11)
So Gilad should thank the almighty for his freedom ? So who should he blame for his capture ?
36. Ocean instead of Synagogue
S. Lahat ,   Israel   (11.03.11)
Unbelievable! The arrogance and self-righteousness of some of the Ultra-Orthodox is mind-blowing! To presume that only by conventional, institutionalized means one can commune with whatever one perceives as a Supreme Being is about as parochial and dogmatic as one can get. Nature (Ocean being a most grandiose part of it) is as close as one can get for eternal and spiritual introspection - and that is what Gilad Shalit chose as the venue to celebrate and give thanks to his new-found freedom.
37. article is provacative - "slammed" "claimed" etc
izzy d   (11.03.11)
uh oh, someone has an opinion! quick lets silence him in the name if tolerance. Lets see how you like it... talk backers on ynet have "slammed" a shas minister for his remarks "claiming" that he has no freedom of speech to speak his mind. You see how it work both ways? here is a tip. when a journalist uses more adjectives then substance you can be sure that you are listening to a one sided rant. that you bought it and then continued his work by "slamming" the minister (whom most have you have never heard of - forget actually having met in person) makes you weak and sheep like people. And good to see Sagi bleating the loudest. I am not religious, i think that going to the beach was a healthier choice for his body and mind. But i am more bothered by this article and the comments then by a politician doing his job. People, get a life, learn how the REAL world works, leave your utopias behind in the trash bin of unrealistic expectations where they belong. and sagi, your knee flex reaction to anything religious has become a pathological issue. I highly recommend you get help because a health person would simply not care about such a nonsense non news non relevant issue.
38. Corrupt Shas at it again!
peggy ,   uk/israel   (11.03.11)
Don't see the Askenazi chief rabbi saying anything, and believe the Shalits are Askenazi. So why should Shas interfere. They should sort out their own house first. Galid must celebrate the life G-d allowed him, and what so many petitioned for, leave him alone to enjoy his family and friends, he has been through enough already!
39. Shas Minister
Sheli ,   Haifa   (11.03.11)
Nahari - who gave you the right to slam Gilad Shalit down after the hell he endured??? as if your prayers helped - shame on you! You are as insensible and as moral-less as can be and then some!!!! You should ask for Gilad's forgiveness!
40. DO NOT LEAVE SHALIT ALONE........
Charles ,   NYC   (11.03.11)
Do not leave Shalit alone because we are all responsible for one another. The reason that millions of Jews prayed for his release is not for him to upset G-D with a life style that makes Hashen upset, opposite from G-Ds wishes. As Jews we know that we are the chosen nation by G-D to service him only with a Torah life style. By desecrating the Shabbat we are stabbing G-D in the back so to speak, we can go to the beach any day of the week but NOT travel by car on Shabbat to the beach or any other place. If only all the Jews in the world would Honor the Shabbat for two weeks Moshiach will come and end our exile (Galut) immediately. Lets not waste our time negotiating with other countries to make peace, lets take a short cut and focus on observing the Shabbat and it will bring an end to our problems. I am speaking out of love to all our brothers and sisters. Shabbat Sholom to all

I dont think that you hate religion so much, I think that you hate your life style so you are blaming it on religion.
42. Keep quiet Lusers

why can't the minister voice his own opinion????
43. shas
s.shamash ,   london   (11.03.11)
I agree that he should have gone for prayer this saterday to thank god that he is back and alive and how many killed and sufferd because him .
44. build synaguoge at the beach
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (11.03.11)
45. Choices
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (11.03.11)
Shasnik Minister Nahari needs to get a grip (on something other than *that*) and understand that he is not the annointed individual to determine what an individual who was held against his will; under duress for years, selects as his personal choice of things to do, with his newly *FREE* time. Gee. Lets see. Hang with some bearded, smelly dudes shaking and rolling and just a prayin' their little hearts out, or.... head to the sand strips and check out the beach bunnies showing off the goodies and their scanty Bikinis? Life is all about tough choices.
46. Gilad should have gone to synagogue not beach
Lenise ,   Israel   (11.03.11)
While communal prayer for Jews and Israel is important, I think the Minister's vision is too narrow. Gilad was alone and did not see the light for years, no sight or sound of HaShem's creation, no sea, animals, birds, sunsets and sunrises. Sometimes being in beautiful places that reflect Hashem's creation is as much prayer, of the soul, and expression of thanksgiving than being in a synagogue. Besides the Torah was given so we can judge and correct ourselves, not others. Point a finger at someone else and three fingers point back at yourself. Maybe someone should be doing some soulsearching himself.
47. Trash
michaelpielet ,   boca raton, Israel   (11.03.11)
This whole article is trash. His father should have taken him to a prostitute.
48. Not the way to bring ppl closer to Judaism
Dvorah ,   us   (11.03.11)
this is very insensitive to criticize Gilad just after hes been released from 5 long years in the hands of terrorists. You don't bring people closer to Judasim by criticizing their actions publicly if anything that will do the opposite. Gilad didnt go to shul this shabbos. So? Can you do something about it? whats the use of criticizing something that happened in the past? it is very insensitive that people are talking negativly about Gilad like the ex mossad chief saying "Gilad is not a hero" and like the shas minister who said "Gilad should've went to shul instead of the beach" and not to mention the insensivity of all the paparazzis taking pictures and filming Gilad's every step.

There is a time to pray A time to rest....
50. THANKING HASHEM?
leo ,   mexico   (11.03.11)
Thanking for what? For 5 years of suffering?
51. Noam more than once...
Barry Newman ,   Ginot Shomron, Israe   (11.03.11)
asked HaRav Ovadia for spiritual support...and readily received it. I agree, Gilad is free to live as he wishes. But a word of two of thanks to G-d for having kept him reasonably well and healthy (Baruch Hashem) would not be at all out of place, would it?
52. 41# you should live the life I have pal.I
Eric... ,   Israel......   (11.03.11)
do more for poor people and the army than you would do in a life time pal.
53. #27
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (11.03.11)
They could have quietly invited Gilad to the Rabbi's home. Publically making a loud fuss is no way to handle this. Being right does not give one the right to act like a jerk. This sort of nonsense will not bring people closer to Judaism but it will drive many away if they think that this is the face of Judaism.
54. I am religious Jew
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (11.03.11)
Stop forcing religion onto people who are not religious, look after your own flock. Yes I would have liked Galit to have benched Ha’gomel on his first Shabbat home after being locked away for over 5 years but its not for us to force it on to someone who does not come from such a background.
55. Shas
Zvi ,   Zimbabawe   (11.03.11)
Is to bad the Israeli political spectrum give a voice to people leaving in the darkness and backwardness of the middle age

57. # 40 if only if only
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (11.03.11)
If only the Jews had a country and a strong army in 1939,the Germans couldn't have exterminated the Jews of Europe, this is the only only, that Jews should believe in ,and concerning prayer, God hates people who study and pray, but loves people who work, fight and study, you may not like it but some people go to the mikveh, and some people prefer the beach, free country.
58. When will State & religion be separated? I am sick waiting!
Michael ,   California, USA   (11.03.11)
59. Shas / Shabbat
Michael ,   Chicago   (11.03.11)
Dear Mr. Minister, Bite me! Gilad is free to do whatever he wants. Sincerely, Michael
60. You cannot force religion
Barak ,   New York City   (11.03.11)
If Rabbis try to shove religion down the throat of Gilad Shalit or his family, they will get exactly the opposite result. Religion is something that either comes to a person or doesn't. Rabbis claim to want to spread the word of God, but what they really want is to control people so that their own beliefs are not revealed as foolish.
