1. other powers
Matt   (11.03.11)
It goes a little something like this, the US, Iran, France and the UK will take a defense role if Iran decides to attack countries in the region or close the Straits of Hormuz. If one GCC is attacked then they are, that is how the French become involved via the UAE, UK, US etc the same. The main threat that would draw the US into a war with Iran was Iraq, troops on the streets. Iran could hurt the US without having to overtly attack such as a base in Kuwait, Bahrain. In the case of Iraq as it was in early 2007, the US in such a situation would be forced to bomb Iran and thus be drawn into a war with Iran.
2. Only Israel can stop the Mad Mullahs now.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.03.11)
There is no chance whatsoever "the world" will stop Iran from building nuclear bombs. Sanctions will not work. They didn't work against North Korea; which is a far poorer nation than Iran. Iran has invested far too much in nuclear bombs; is far too close to completion and has far too much to gain to stop now, of it's own free will. Only Israel can stop the Mad Mullahs now.
3. Iran will be isolated behind a total blockade
Harry West ,   Rutland USA   (11.03.11)
Iran will be more isolated than Cuba was . It will be more isolated than North Korea.. Its time to deal with the terrorist capital of the world. Syria and Hezbollah and Hamas will be cut off from their lifeline..The world will be very happy about these events..Nobody will care about Iran...That is a definite....
4. Ron Ben Yishai!
Israeli 2   (11.03.11)
Whether on TV, radio or in writing, your commentaries are always deep, well thought out and serious. I appreciate your intelligence in analyzing such subjects. Thank you.
5. A strike maybe be possible but what about the day after ?
WikiMiki   (11.03.11)
6. THIS IS GETTING MIGHTY BORING
CUPID STUNT ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.03.11)
When you need to shoot ,shoot....don't talk.
7. Destroy Israel?
John Q. ,   Florida, US   (11.04.11)
Don't have to worry about anyone trying to destroy Israel. It will take take care of that on its own. Their arrogance and ignorance is more than enough. All the world has to do is wait and watch.
8. American objections
Joe ,   Canada   (11.04.11)
The Americans fear for the economy of countries dependant on Iranian oil should a war interrupt its export. They also fear that in a war the Iranians would resort to terrorism against their citizens. To avoid such predicaments there is only one sure fire option: to relatively quickly get a regime change. The Americans had & missed a possible great opportunity when the Iranians demonstrated "en masse" against the fraudulent election results. Washington did not come in support for the protestors. Now that the "open hand" foreign policy towards Tehran has badly failed Washington is apparently putting all hopes on sanctions and making sure that Israel will not take action on its own. Sanctions did not bring down the North Korean regime because these sanctions are overcome by third party countries. In the case of Iran it has the support of at least Russia, China North Korea, Syria & Venezuela. In addition it has a border country, Turkey. whose economy has a fair share tied to Iran (oil & other economic exchanges). It has not observed some of the current sanctions against Iran. Will it obseve new UN decisions if they ever come up? Currently Central banks of Russia & China are taking care of Iran international business clearing apparently without using the dollar. If this goes on, the Iranian economy is not goinb to suffer a great deal whatever sanctions are agreed by less than a full slate of UN member countries. Given that time is on the side of the Iranian despots & knowing almost certainly that sanctions will not work any time soon, then the conclusion for the Americans should be clear as much as it is to the Israelis. If the Israelis act on their own & in defiance of Washington, the consequences for eveyone will likely be worse as only a partial success would be the outcome, leaving Tehran still carrying out its retaliation threats to the security & economy of the world.
9. There’s more than 1 way to skin a cat.
Stephen in New York   (11.04.11)
What does that mean? It means that an aerial onslaught involving more than 100 planes and pilots is not the only option to put a stop to this menace. And it’s not just Israel at risk. Intelligence exists regarding Iranian experiments launching ballistic missiles from containers on ships. There are thousands of ships everywhere out there.
10. I dare you to
jacob ,   encino, CA   (11.04.11)
Reality is you cannot do anything about it alone. You can think that you can, and you can do what you are doing now about it (media craze, etc) but that's really all you can do. You know it, I know it, and they know it. Another thing is if your intelligence is bad on them as it was on HA, then you should be thinking what would you do if they retaliate unconventionaly, I.E, they might already have it. Another thing I hate to state is that I wish they get it or they have about 20+ of it; You know, that will make you not go to war, and less people will die. If anything they having it will make less people die; But NO NO then you would not be the boss in the neighbourhood; The latter is what it's all about.
11. Hopefully in all this confusion , our own government shall
tom ,   tel aviv   (11.04.11)
remember what is really was, that it wanted to achieve...? You certainly succeeded in confusing me (and few mil. of our citizens). "Confusion Shall be my Epitaph..."
12. Iran action
Count Dracula ,   Los Angeles, USA   (11.04.11)
Funny how no one considers an alternate possibility, that is that the USA simply "shuts down" the IAF from flying and the army from any additional activity. Can't be done you say. With a Navy battle group just beyond the horizon, and full satellite penetration, Israel could, and would be, out of business. An embarrassment no doubt to the mighty Israel, but sometimes humility can be a blessing.
13. Get it over and done with
Cynic #2   (11.04.11)
this state of indecision should not go on any longer. Only Israel knows what is best. Do not wait for Europe or the USA to do your dirty laundry for you.
14. No one will care abt Iran?
Hisan ,   Leicester   (11.04.11)
You are naive or stupid to think no one will care about Iran. Iran is not Iraq.. they are armed and ready to defend and not alone. An attack on another Muslim country by the West will lead to catastrophic consequences. Be ready to be very surprised! Israel has no more Turkey and Egypt backing and Pakistan is nuclear armed as well.
15. #10: "Dare" & then your post? R U Confused?
PERIS ORG ,   USA-ISRAEL   (11.04.11)
Just wondering: how is it that you would or could know all of the security ins and outs of the situation and be posting on ynet talk-backs? Duh. You as well as I have NO idea what the hell is really going on behind closed doors. So, you might want to stop showing off how little you know...its very unappealing. Further., so is your clear hatred of the Jewish people and Israel (whether ur a Jew or not, based on your name;), its always very ugly to hear from morons with no shred of moral fiber within their being. That has your name all over it. Get a life.
16. My money says Israel acts sooner rather than later.
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (11.04.11)
What is sooner? Within a year.
17. Should I adjust my near-term/future budget
seadog1946 ,   ErieBasin, NYC   (11.04.11)
to account for higher prices of crude oil distillates as a result of an Israeli attack on Iran? Those Iranian anti-ship missles can punch really big holes in the tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
18. No one will care abt Iran???
mozzz   (11.04.11)
#14: Trying to threaten?? true, most middle-east countries support only based on religion, hope atleast some will realise the stupidity.
19. as long as Barak is DM,Iran does not need to wory
chaim.s ,   54st brooklyn ny   (11.04.11)
Israel attacking Iran ? is this a sick joke?,as long as this pathetic coward Barak is defence minister, the only attacking the IDF will do,is when they will come in the midlle of the night to the settlements in YESHA,and throw out the women and children from their homes, this coward Barak, never stood up to the real enemies of Israel,in the last 3 years while he was defence minister, over 2000 rockets have rained down on Israel from Gaza, did he lift a finger to stop it,? of course not,he is saving the IDF's firepower for the more important task, when the time will come...to throw out the 250,000 jews from YESHA
20. #14 Hisan
Tim ,   Brighton   (11.04.11)
Hi Hisan First and foremost no one WANTS to attack Iran for the sake of it Consider though what is at stake and follow what Ahmadinejad and RG Community are saying - they are the best bellweather for whats happening there Their repeated avowed intentions are 1. Nationalise the Arabian Gulf and Control of all Shipping 2. Take over Bahrein and Kuwait 3. Replace the Saudi regime with a Shia Theocracy 4. Replace the Iraqi regime with a Shia Theocracy 5. Drive the US out of the Mid East 6. Destroy Israel and its people 7. Complete its de facto takeover of Lebanon and Syria Dont you think THATS not catastrophic ENOUGH for you?
21. Bombing Iran
Aziz ,   Gaza, Palestine   (11.04.11)
and that is israel my friends ... as peace-loving as we always have known it, uses it's bombs, oh i mean to say lovely flowers to disarm a distant country that tries to get away from the 3rd world's population to be as advanced as "Israel" ... you know what, I'd be first to support Tel Aviv's Attack on Tehran, cuz it's the shortest route to the end of Israel !! ForEVER !!!
22. Evidence?
Noah ,   NY, NY, USA   (11.04.11)
I hear lots of chatter and hype. Where is the "beyond a reasonable doubt" evidence about an Iranian bomb? N O N E!
23. Israelis has no courage
persian man ,   iran   (11.04.11)
Netayahu talk sounds like tuff guy but he is weasil liar man. He is weak coward. Israel is paper tigier who bomb only the Gaza woman and childs.
24. Israeli Strike on Iran
Rudy Ferro ,   Aguadilla, USA   (11.04.11)
(1) Israel should seek broad concensus now for a strike now, with the U.S. and Western Allies before it is too late. (2) We should aim not only for the destruction of Iranian nuclear sites, but also (and possibly more important) regime change in Iran. Otherwise we will not solve the Iranian problem in the long run.
25. Iran end
Paul ,   Australia   (11.04.11)
I'd like to see the Iranians put an end to YOUR nuclear program. That would be an outcome that could only lead to peace on earth. Its not them its you. it was always you. You don't fool us anymore no matter how much media you control.
26. fog of war
hp ,   austin, usa   (11.05.11)
In the fog of war anything can and usually does happen. I'd bet there are at least half a dozen nations harboring a desire to perform an undetected mach 3 "Delilah option" on poor wittle Israel. The collective cheering will be so loud as to be heard on the moon.
27. israel
nigerian jew ,   port hacourt nigeria   (11.05.11)
Israelis who say don't attack hv a point.but life precedes regional stability, right?
28. #23....This is not true
exUK ,   Tel Aviv   (11.05.11)
Hamas fires thousands of rockets at Israel, then when the army try to get at Hamas, they hide themselves and weapons among civilian population,in mosques,schools.hospitals...so blame Hamas not Israel.Israel pulled out of Gaza 6 years ago,and got rockets as thanks,.
29. If Israel has nuclear weapons,it is not
exUK ,   TEl Aviv   (11.05.11)
threatening any country with them, and it has been a deterent This is in stark contrast to Iran,Hamas and Hezbollah whose intention is to destroy Israel.I dont agree with some of Israel's policies, but compared to Syria murdering its own people,Sunnis and Shia killing each othger, suicide bombings etc....you see it is the Arab EXTREMISTS(not Arabs in general) that are the problem. Most ordinary Arabs and Jews just want to raise a family in peace, but Israel has to send all their kids into the army when they should be enjoying life,in order to protect us from hatred.
30. to#27
exUK ,   Tel Aviv   (11.05.11)
As far as I am concerned, life is more important than 'principle'.That is why we gave 1027 criminals in exchange for Gilad Shalit.
