The answer to your question is that nobody is qualified to mediate in the Israeli-Arab conflict. This is NOT because there are no qualified individuals, but because the Arabs don't want any resolution that does not include the annihilation of Israel. A peace between Israel and the Arabs will come only when both sides, not only Israel, want it. Until then (will the messiah come first?) everybody is just treading water and pretending that the Arabs want peace.
