1. If you REALLY want to strike Iran ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.09.11)
.... cripple the oil facilities. The Islamofascist regime will then wither away and die. To hell with oil prices! Saudi Arabia and Kuwait will be so grateful, maybe they can be convinced to raise production and cut prices. A dicey shot, but if the goal is to cripple Iran, then this is the way to do it. To hell with world opinion. I mean -- they love us so much, don't they? No. They count on us to do their dirty work, and we always seem to rise to the occasion. Besides .... walking is good for your health. Using public transportation is good for the environment. Get with the program. If Israel strikes Iran, Israel will have saved civilization. A little "thank you" just might be in order.
2. On-a-Wing-and-a-Prayer: God bless Israel!
Taz Man ,   USA   (11.09.11)
3. A difficult decision needs to be made by somebody in Israel.
Sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (11.09.11)
I don't believe Israel will attack Iran. The world can't afford another major war in the Middle East, then again the world can't afford to let the mad mullahs of Tehran posses a nuclear weapons capability. A war with Iran is a frightening scenario not because of Iran's capability but the unknowns of what's next. I guess we have to stay tuned.
4. Surgical strikes?
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (11.09.11)
"Walk on road, hm? Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later get squish just like grape." - The Karate Kid (1984) Israel vs. Iran is the same. Either you attack Iran with your whole arsenal (including the non-existing nukes) or you do nothing. Otherwise, sooner or later get squish just like grape.
5. Iran sits in a glass house, as it cannot
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (11.09.11)
risk, to draw the US in !!!!!!!!!!!! So Irans means for retaliation are EXTREMELY limited, to say the least ! They can only wait for the knock out blow to come....and to make silly faces and OHHH yes, to behave like cry babies...oh well...

solomon ,   bklyn   (11.09.11)
“A little "thank you" just might be in order. “ Never happen. I’m still waiting to hear a ‘thank you’ after Israel was vilified for bombing Iraq’s reactor.
7. Perpetual war "Wags the Dog" for Greater Israel
Steve Benassi Silver ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (11.09.11)
Everyone knows military intervention cannot stop Iran from becoming a nuclear power. An Israeli attack on Iran would mean perpetual war in the region, for the sole purpose of distracting from the Jewish occupation of Palestine, and to justify "Greater Israel" and to justify a "transfer" of the native Palestinians outside of Palestine for "security reasons." This may lead to nuclear war, in which Israel would be destroyed, as would parts of Iran, Pakistan, India, and maybe even Russia, China, Europe, and the USA.
8. The only thing Israel can strike Iran with..
Chris.B ,   Australia   (11.09.11)
is with its tongue. Because nothing else is feasible. Anybody who thinks otherwise should seek medical advise pronto. All this talk is getting boring 'we can attack' blah blah blah 'existentail threats' blah blah blah put up or shut up! It's a shame leaders from both countries don't have the balls to meet each other and talk it out.
9. fooled you. israel could destroy iranian leadership politica
ralph   (11.09.11)
political and military in one fell swoop then pressure for destruction of nuclear weapons. iran does not have defensive capabilities around every center. cut off the head and arms and it all stops or is cut down to a manageable size.
10. To Sarah B @ no. 1
Philip K ,   Wexford, Ireland   (11.09.11)
Deluded. You need to come to terms with the fact that the rest of the world are so concerned with their own economic issues in these uncertain times that they now care nothing for what happens to Israel. Israel is now seen as an annoyance and a distracting hinderance to economic concerns. I refer you to private remarks between Barack Obama and Nicolas Sarkozy about the Israeli prime minister that were overheard at the G20 summit in Cannes. This is very telling of current western sentiments towards Israel. Increased oil prices for the rest of the world caused by Israeli aggression wont be tolerated.
11. No surprise this "analysis" by Reuters is so flawed
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (11.09.11)
Ideally, the attack would be carried out by the US and its allies from close-in assets in and near the Persian Gulf. Israeli assets will be needed to deal with the Iranian proxies in Lebanon and Gaza. For Israel to send its forces long distance "over there" while leaving the country vulnerable "over here" makes no sense to me. Moreover, the idea of using Jerichos to hit buried sites using conventional warheads is ludicrous. They'd be better used against command and control, intelligence, and IRGC facilities. And does anyone think Egypt will allow Israeli subs through the Suez in a time of crisis? Israel is wise to avoid damaging oil and gas facilities, as a world economic collapse resulting from $200 per barrel oil would be blamed on Israel and, by extension, the Jews. (Russia, of course, benefits enormously from oil disruption and price increases.) Even were it possible for Israel to launch attacks from bases closer to their target (look at a map), Israel lacks the resources the US has, including stealth and heavy bombers, deep penetration bunker busters, and the like. Yet small Israel is expected to pull the world's chestnuts out of the fire because the rest don't have the guts to do what needs to be done.
12. Would Sarkozy`s France mind .........
Nora Tel Aviv   (11.09.11)
........ a second Holocaust ? Noooo Would Europe mind it ? Noooo And the US ? They would certainly open their doors to those poor Holocaust II survivors when the time comes. Israel should prepare for a frendly lip service and do what should be done.
13. Thanks Sarah B. Good thinking!
Cowboy   (11.09.11)
14. #8 and this is what it would sound like:
Noa ,   Israel   (11.09.11)
Iran: "Go away, infidels, you have no place in the Middle East. It belongs to Moslems under our hegemony!" Israel: "No, we won't go away. This is our land. Moslems have been and gone, and we are here to stay!" Iran:"No!" Israel:"Yes!" Until here, good plan of yours. And now?
15. Philip K Wexford Ireland
LION OF JUDAH   (11.09.11)
Go and blame the Jews for everything. We are not going to give up our homeland the State of Israel.Read your bible Mr Philip. We all know what is Europe. The European Jews have suffered from the Christians for long time, but you will not be able to mess with the Jews anymore.
16. I Know !.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (11.09.11)
But I will not elaborate because it will not be posted here. But the scenario in the artickle err and is to soft. But I hope that Iran will be severely crippled as nr 1 has pointed out. Arn.Sweden.
17. THIS IS THE WORLD'S PROBLEM...
stude ham   (11.09.11)
why is the burden of its solution resting entirely on israel's shoulders?
18. #10 TO BE SURE TO BE SURE
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.09.11)
Pog mo thoin .
19.  RICHARD KEMP
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.09.11)
With all due respect to the very agreeable ,and knowledgeable gentleman Richard Kemp ,this scenario all sounds so neat but the reality might be very messy and awful if Iran is indeed actually attacked.Iran would ,I assume ,escalate the situation .Civilians would be victims .
20. Don't leave Iran or us in suspense
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (11.09.11)
Just as soon as Israel decides, when, where & how, broadcast it to the world so we can all get ready for a war that has a potential to wipe out most of mankind You, your family & friends & neighbors will be rather easy to find, the survivors will glow in the dark
21. #1 Sarah--I'm confused...
Edwin ,   Canada   (11.09.11)
...how can Saudi Arabia increase its production? I always laugh when the King from time to time promises the USA they will "open the taps" when production is already wide open! Aramco workers are curious which taps everyone is talking about and wonder if there is a secret faucet hidden in the sand someplace that everyone but they know about.
22. # 10
Birdi ,   Israel & proud of it   (11.09.11)
Who gave you the right to speak for ''the rest of the world" ''Barack'' his name is Barak, did not attend the G20 summit ,thats a figment of your imagination. Nuclear weapons in the hands of Iran is a grave concern for the entire western world; though I do understand that little people like you, stuck in Wexford, do not own the brain cells to fathom out this huge & complexed problem.
23. Before Israel strikes Iran...
Jake ,   USA   (11.09.11)
It is no secret that Hizballah will wage war on Israel the moment a strike on Iran occurs. Therefore the only sensible route to attacking Iran, is to invade Southern Lebanon, and utterly destroy Hizballah - then, victorious and emboldened, embark on the Iranian mission. I'm not a military expert, but this is common sense, hopefully Israel has some.
24. The problem i see
the mad zionist ,   sf, ny   (11.09.11)
Is that if israel does try to pull a sneak attack, one which obviousley wont come as a surprise to everyone, is how does israel pull a sneak attack without mobilizing the whole IDF plus reservists for its proxies. Israel needs 48 to 72 hours for a full mobilization and if Israel does not fully mobilize before an attack, it could be devastating to israel to fully mobilize after they strike and during a retalliation. As far as i know, Israel cannot fully mobilize.without the media knowing and its enemies. Thats the really hard part i see. Because Israel will have to mobilize to its full capabilities to protect the home front from irans.proxies.
25. To #10
To #10 ,   Los Angeles, USA   (11.09.11)
The Irish always seem to be on the wrong side. The IRA sided with the Nazi and then partnered with the Arab terrorists in the 70's and just elected an anti-Semite as their president. Their economy is now in shambles. It's Ireland that shouldn't be tolerated.
26. iran and israeli air stikes
joel ,   usa   (11.09.11)
well, let saudi arabia prepare to increase its oil productions to cover up whatever loses may incur from iranian wells, OK? the best thing is strike iranian nuke productions and demolish hezbollah & gaza by bombs, ok?
27. There’s more than 1 way to skin a cat.
Stephen in New York   (11.09.11)
What does that mean? It means that an aerial onslaught involving more than 100 planes and pilots is not the only option to put a stop to this menace. And it’s not just Israel at risk. Iran has experimented with launching short-range (300 miles) ballistic missiles from containers on ships. There are thousands of cargo ships at sea, any one of which could be a missile-launching platform.
28. What about us?
Ronnie ,   Israel   (11.09.11)
Reading all these comments i dont see anyone mentioning the fallout to israeli cities once dear mr netanahu and mr barak have their way. Yes the iranians pose a huge threat to the whole region, but the folly of war could bring thousands of casualties to Israel. Defense minister Barak is a man with a massive ego and when he tells us to head for our houses in the event of war, then that tells us what a moron he is and how he cannot be trusted with Israel's security.
29. Bluff &Double Bluff
JW ,   Haifa   (11.09.11)
How about another scenario. All this posturing is an attempt to get Iran to look the wrong way. The means and the origin do not have to be Israel. And, given the fact that Iran is not stupid enough to fall for such an obvious ploy. They are now forced to maintain a 360 surveil
30. #24, Israel mobilized for Cast Lead 48 hours in advance.
Jake ,   USA   (11.09.11)
I have friends who are IDF reservists living the U.S. and they we're contacted as well.. The IDF is more than capable of mobilizing in time for a full-fledged war.
