I do not wish to judge Mr. Sarkozy as he has Israel. Though, given that France now has one of the LARGEST Muslim population in Europe, is it any wonder he plays a game of political compromise? Back in 2009, only Germany with 4,026 000 or 4% of the total population was a contender. In 2009 France had 3,554 000 or 6% of the total population.
