31. Au contraire - this is all about empowering democracy
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (11.13.11)
Livni's comments exemplify the ugly side of any democracy - the penchant of those who are rejected at the polls to pretend that those who voted them out are against "democracy". Quite the opposite. What we see is NGOs whose parties symbolize their ideology are upset because those parties failed at the polls. Instead of accepting the democratic will of the people, the NGOs sought and are getting disproportionate funding by foreign governments. To what end? These foreign governments also have elements who don't accept the Israeli election results - so they pump in tens of millions of dollars (or more) to prop up the specific lobby groups who cannot raise their own funds. Why can't they raise their own funds? Because Israelis do not agree with them. These NGOs are most definitely NOT human rights groups. They have little or nothing to do with human rights, but instead are either anti-Israel or pro-Arab lobby groups. That's why you haven't seen a single one of these groups demanding war crimes trials for Palestinians - despite the overwhelming evidence of complicity by both Fatah and Hamas leaders in these war crimes. So Israel is rightly taking steps to prevent foreign government intervention in domestic politics. If the NGOs don't like it, they should convince the Israeli electorate otherwise, rather than go suck the foreign teats for money they can't raise at home because nobody agrees with them anymore. The

33. Any NGO Peace Now types in Muslim countries?
Isabella1709 ,   Tampa USA   (11.13.11)
Never read of a single one. These kind of people only go into democratic countries with their attempted subversion.

would see the demise of Israel. Shame on them! They have sold their souls to the billions of petro-dollars fueling this campaign. Livni included...stupid!
37. James #26 - but you're a foreign occupier too!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (11.13.11)
James, you yourself are a foreign settler occupying stolen native American land. AIPAC members are just like you...foreign occupiers. Why don't you go back to England where you came from, and send the Jews back to Israel where they came from?
38. #15 A democracy
Raphael ,   Netanya   (11.13.11)
Is not merelely a matter of free speech: it relies mainly upon independent powers and free vote; and a manipulated opinion -according to Chomsky's definition of consensus making by secretly funded opinion makers- is driving us towards a chilean situation, the CIA being replaced by various mukhabarat or european leftists/fascists. To prevent our evolution towards a banana republic, we need to know whose poodles are our journalists and NGOs.

42. The disgrace is NIF and others of their ilk.
Steven ,   Teaneck   (11.13.11)
Israeli citizens, both Jews and Arabs, have protected rights to free speech and expression. Foreigners, and their, NGOs do not. Sorry, NIF, you do not have the right to subvert the defense of Israel. Nor do you have the right to fund your collaborationist activities in Israel. Israel has many on the left, mostly well-meaning idiots, who think that unilateral disarmament and land "give-backs" (in truth, you can't give back what was never theirs to begin with) will earn them the love and friendship of those set on destroying them. Truth be told, you have to look far and wide for evidence of tolerance and respect in the Muslim world for "infidels."
43. Where was all the voices for Freedom

of speech and Democracy when they shutdown 'Arutz Sheva' radio. Hypocrites that are fighting a war for the enemies of Israel and against their own people.

Allahu Bingbong   (11.14.11)
Is move to Gaza. Then they can get all the funding they like.
45. To take the King's shilling
Sidney ,   USA   (11.14.11)
'The expression "to take the King's shilling" (or the Queen's shilling as the case may be) meant that a man agreed to serve as a soldier or sailor.' These organizations are taking the money of foreigners including governments, is there any reason to believe that they are loyal to Israel?
46. #26 - only if you follow suit with defunding CAIR
William ,   Israel   (11.14.11)
and many other Arab lobbyist groups in the US. Or is your focus solely on the ONLY Jewish one? By the way, this isn't about the US funding an Israeli NGO but rather Europe sticking their nose in Israeli affairs. I trust the reaction in the US would be even more harsh if it was revealed that EU countries were funding Leftist orgs there in order to push a European agenda.
47. 26
zionist forever   (11.14.11)
AIPAC is a lobby group like the NRA and hundreds of others in the US. They do not receive funding from foreign NGOS or governments as thats illegal under US law. A domestic lobby group is fine ( in Israel as well ) but its when their funding comes from abroad that lobbying and foreign interests start to merge. B'T Salem and all the other politically active movements in Israel can continue to operate under this law if the bill passes all that changes is how they get their funding. They will be limited to 20,000 Shekel from foreign governments and NGOS but they can raise as much money domestically or from individuals abroad as they like.
48. Wow Livni taught me something
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (11.14.11)
To be able to have freedom of speech one has to be paid millions of tax free Euros, who knew? I sure didn't and Europe hasn't paid me one single Euro so I should sue them for violating my free speech. I think I would accept say 10 million Euros for all the back pay and they too can pay me another million a year, and of course that includes every non-extreme leftist in the country as well. I mean I deserve free speech just as much as leftists do. I served my country and earned that right.
49. Two things.
Vlad   (11.14.11)
1. This is in fact an anti-espionage law. Peace Now spies on Jewish neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem and settlements in the West Bank, and even on IDF bases. European states fund them because it serves their foreign policy interests, so the leftists are, in effect, spying against Israel for foreign governments. 2. This law was passed democratically by a government elected by the Israeli people, not the US or EU.
50. USAID
Joe Sombrero ,   USA   (11.14.11)
Many of these popular political left-wing groups in Israel receive also money from USAID. All you have to do is to take a look at the US Embassy Tel Aviv Facebook page to see examples of this on occasion. The difference between Left and right-wing groups in Israel is that right-wing groups do not receive money from any government and exist purely by private donations in Israel and outside. Most of the aid political left-wing groups get in Israel comes from foreign governments that give the money in order to influence Israeli public opinion and politics and in some cases spy. If The Israeli government is giving money to the tea party in the United States that would be considered illegal. If the Israeli Supreme Court overturns this new law there needs to be a private investigative team set up to investigate many of these groups as well as the court justices and some politicians in Israel to find out the motivations behind these decisions.
51. you mean they do not get tax money?
ghostq   (11.14.11)
than they got no civic public support at all, only forign support, they can't be elected but still thinks they can make political bubble bubble toy and trouble in Israel, mmm it is no brainer here, that is the most none democratic orgs, since they got hardly civic electorly support.
52. to #26 nop since the members r USA civilians
ghostq   (11.14.11)
otherwise they won't be able to have any stance in USA elections. james before you make a statment think.
53. Look who is complaining again.
tiki ,   belgium   (11.14.11)
The always 'complain about something' Ultra-Left. On their claim that the governement is 'trying to silence them', I can say only one thing.....I hope the'll succeed. We are not talking about the normal social Left but the Ultra Left, the hard core Marxistish Left. The ones with the automatism spasms of Anti Israel- pro Arab slurs Left. These peoples should be curbed, like mad dogs.
54. How to make Livni happy
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (11.14.11)
Israel should copy the US "foreign agents registration act" word for word and apply it to Israel. FARA is a disclosure statute that requires foreign agents to make public disclosure of their activities, receipts and disbursements in support of those activities.
