What on earth prompts Panetta to say something so incalculably STUPID? For Israel - and for the Arabs of the Gulf - an Iranian nuclear weapon would be DISASTROUS. The Obama administration just doesn't Get It.

The worst thing that can happen to the world economy is the dismantling of pax americana. So now, nine years and a global recession later comes Leon Panetta to state the obvious, except having avoided Iranian provocations for a decade (to say nothing of the Bush team having been snookered into doing Iran the favor of eliminating its only credible enemy in the Arab world, Sadam); after losing nearly five thousand US and countless Iraqi lives to Iranian insurgents in Iraq; to being embarrassed continually by Iran tweaking Obama's nose regarding hollow deadlines and red lines: now, facing the choice of economic fallout today, or Iranian control over ME oil for decades with very predictable economic, social and military consequences: now Panetta cries "it's the economy stupid"? Its not the economy, stupid, its a cowardly retreat from responsibility. The US is a retiring giant that deserves what follows. But the damage it is doing in the process to other and innocent nations and peoples is unforgivable.

The economy isn't too important when one's nation has been destroyed by nuclear bombs. How dumb can Panetta, and his ilk, be? We must destroy Iran's nukes. Period.

The US Defense budget goes down 10% if not Congressional deal is made in less than 4 days. That includes money for bombs and food and fuel and ammo for US troops in combat already. It also means cuts for their families' incomes. That also means cutting aid to the PA and Israel and Egypt and Jordan and Pakistan. The payments to Pakistan keep the supply lines open to US and NATO in Pakistan and sometimes slow the attacks on US troops in the region. But Israel will do what it plans, whatever that is, regardless.
