1. its a global economy
Henry ,   USA   (11.19.11)
water flows to the lowest place. Don't like the conditions? Try to get jobs elsewhere. Until they too decide to get doctors from India. And one day they'll be out and it will be doctors from the Philipines or Uganda. Don't like it - hey, tough luck. Its a global economy.
2. Spiraling downward
5th generation ,   Israel   (11.20.11)
The combination of low wages with inexcusably increasing cost of living means Israel will increasingly be able to secure only the garbage of the garbage practitioners, while the competent bolt. What's left? Our government starts creating loopholes to ensure second-world half-educated "physicians" with forged degrees can practice their toliet-level work ethic for the masses. And we apparently should be grateful we have any doctors at all. Too bad the strikes can't deny service only to the criminal government employees and their families.
3. First on the list to be fired should be Roni Gamzo
rachel ,   tel aviv israel   (11.20.11)
It is appalling that the government treats medical residents and students in such a brazenly apathetic manner. Making doctors punch in and out like they are factory workers? Who thinks of such absurd practices? The Israeli Medical Association should be ashamed of itself. Having doctors taking care of Israel's sick on 36 hour shifts endangers the well-being of everyone who needs medical care. If the Finance Minister wants to help the residents all he has to do is take the money away from the haredi sectors who do not contribute anything to society and give it to the medical personnel who do. I want properly paid doctors operating on me if I need care, not religious ne'er-do-wells praying over my dead body.
4. â€œUnacceptable that doctors do not abide by court orders"
solomon ,   bklyn   (11.20.11)
A result of the government itself not abiding by court orders and then trying to delegitimize the Supreme Court.
5. No completed residency=
MARK KLEIN, M.D. ,   OAKLAND   (11.20.11)
No specialty certifications
6. Problem is inequity in pay scales
Ilan   (11.20.11)
The top doctors make well over 100K NIS a month, a fantastic sum in Israel. The doctors need to decide if the money the government pays out will benefit the top tier of public health care doctors or will be more evenly distributed. The choice between bad health care and health care no one can afford to use is not what we want.
7. Could it be ......................?
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (11.20.11)
That the Bibi wants to push us into a private medical system .Otherwise its difficult or impossible to understand his obtuse handling of this ongoing fiasco.
8. Doctors from Europe
v.braunstein ,   Brussels,Belgium   (11.20.11)
In order to work in Israel, the European doctors have to pass the Israeli Medical exams, immigrate to Israel, pass one year and a half in the Army otherwise they are not allowed to practice in Israel.Be accepted by a hospital and know Hebrew to practice
9. Public funded medicine always leads to a decline in service
Al   (11.20.11)
Its a service that must be paid for one way or the other. You get what you pay for, you pay what you get. Its simple economics. Better Dr's are hired elsewhere, where they earn top dollar. You are stuck with Dr's who either arent that good or are dedicated to the profession. In sum, public funded healthcare always turns into a disaster. You need a two tier system. 1) For those who pay and have health insurance.(You pay, you get service) 2) A public system where you get what you pay for.(You pay nothing ..you get nothing). Canada has had public funded healthcare for the past 40 years. Its been a disaster..If you are lucky and proactive in you health, you will live. If you are waiting for the Dr to run after you than you are cooked. The average Dr here sees 60-70 people a day just to survive, and thats when he has a 'private' practice. If he works at the hospital, he works like a machine nonstop. How can you possibly have proper care when the Dr is working all the time? You cant and so we in Canada are suffering all the while the government refuses to allow private funded healthcare. Socialized medicine is a disaster.
