1. disagree strongly!
David ,   Raanana   (11.21.11)
while I understad the argument I have to admit that this sort of naivity scares the hell out of me. In an hostile environment, as Israel exists in, the army needs every penny. Just my two cents...
2. Steinitz: A Freakin' Idiot!
Taz Man ,   USA   (11.21.11)
"We're seeing an increase in threats and volatility and than there's the unconventional threat from Iran and Syria; but on the other hand, the Arab nations around us – excluding Iran – have weakened financially and militarily ". Yeah, right! With tens of thousands of rockets ready to rain-down on Israel, this idiot has the audacity to make the above quoted statement. What delusional drugs is he taking? He seriously should be committed. Dumb-is-dumb...and it only gets dumber with time stolen. God help Israel! May He protect Israel, inspite of fools like Steinitz! Freakin' idiot!
3. Excluding the A-Bomb and Kassams all is well in this idiot's

world. Takes a particularly sharp dimwit to utter such comment on the Arab-world's unrelenting march towards the goal of erradicating Israel from Earth's face. Good job Juval! Ehud&you deserve each other.Question : do we?
4. 1973 - Just a reminder on the predictions then
Ron ,   Melbourne,Australia   (11.21.11)
Predictions of the future have been demonstrated again and again to be totally fallible. Maybe the minister should refer to the 1973 prediction or simply refer to Peter Tetlocks study on expert failures. Changes can occur rapidly and the desire for war can change with the Muslim Brotherhood gaining strength.
5. Cut the defense budget and the I.D.F.
jason white ,   afula, israel   (11.21.11)
will be as unprepared for a new war like they were in 2006due to moo-fass and his term as CoS when money was cut from the defense budget. The treasury will weaken the army and not look to ways of collecting tax money. There are workers in Israel that are not paid according to the law. Their salaries are low and they do not pay income tax. The owners and management of the companies they work for receive overly generous salaries and profits. They live a life of luxury and charge it to the company. They drive expensive gas guzzlers, travel overseas to tour or ski or whatever. If the government made sure that all workers received their salaries without have part stolen from them, then there would be more money in the treasury, more money in pension plans, more money to the sick funds and more money for workers to spend. Of course the workers will not be in debt to the and the banks will make smaller profits.
6. agree with Steinitz
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (11.21.11)
The main conclusion of the Yom Kippur war in 1973 was that the Arabs are incapable of waging an expensive war with high-tech weapons against Israel. That is why the Arab war philosophy against Israel changed to low intensity warfare from inside urban areas. To survive, Israel needs to invest in much cheaper but more effective warfare methods: defensible borders (especially Jordan river to the east), control of territory and roads (by reinforcing Jewish villages in Judea and Samaria) and pacification (destruction of Fatah and Hamas, supporting Arab allies).
7. Seriously?!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (11.21.11)
Where did this nut-case come from? With Israel's precarious situation, the more money spent on defense the better. The so-called social justice issues need to take a backseat when Israel's very existence is at stake! Israel's enemies have no such cares, other than the singular cause of destroying Israel and her people. These leftist need to wake-up and get a real grasp of reality...and if not, send their traitorous arses' to Gaza--then bomb'em! God bless Israel!
