1. Sorry we gave back Sinai
joe tango ,   usa   (11.23.11)
A cold peace is not better than security because with a cold peace the people still hate israel and the chace of a hot war is always there. If i knew now what i know now and after a couple of trips to Cairo and listening to people who cannot even say the word Israel then i think we should have kepted Sinai
2. 11) The remark not pondered here.
Steve   (11.23.11)
What would a cold peace (or cold war) with Egypt look like had Begin not surrendered the Sinai at Camp David with Jimmy Carter presiding? Would it be much different than the cold war Israel has maintained with Syria for decades having retained the the strategic Golan Heights? Would Israel not be in a better situation today in terms of her security having retained the strategic Sinai?
3. Israel hater Amr Moussa will be the next Egyptian leader
Dan Leader   (11.23.11)
Moussa will be elected the President and he'll have Islamists in his goverment. Moussa is a well known Israel hater, who turns a blind eye to Palestinian terrorism and condems Israel for defending itself. Moussa wants Israel to be swamped with millions of Arabs. I just hope the left in Israel dont appease this liar.
4. Cold peace with Egypt
graczek ,   Maryland, USA   (11.23.11)
The Cold Peace with Egypt did indeed benefit the Zionist state militarily and economically. It was the consequence of the treasonous crime of Anwar Sadat (who was brought to justice for it), which was continued by Hosni Mubarak. With a more proper leadership to take power in Egypt, this travesty will end, and Egypt will resume its place alongside the armies that will finally liberate the entire Holy Land, in keeping with the Lord's Will.
5. Ceding the Sinai was a huge mistake.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.23.11)
Israel has always been willing to have peace with everyone. However, there is no need to sign formal treaties; which are often a prelude to war. And ceding our precious land for a piece of paper is pure lunacy. Ceding Sinai was a huge mistake. War with Egypt would be all but unthinkable had we kept Sinai. It has incalculable military and strategic value for Israel. It also has enormous oil and tourist wealth. Israel must adopt the policy of NEVER ceding any or our land again.
6. joe #1
arne ,   chicago usa   (11.23.11)
Israel could not continue to keep control of sinai--forget it --let the bedouins have it. they are the perfect buffer. Israels got to build a fence and keep an eye open.Israels bigger is in the north.
7. What a load of garbage
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (11.23.11)
The entire article is bullshit. Egypt would not be a threat without the Sinai and the tens of billions of dollars used to build their military. No we lost a lot of security by giving the Sinai back to Egypt a second time.
8. Mistakenly I thought Haber meant that because Peace is cold
Marco ,   Spain   (11.23.11)
Mistakenly I thought Haber meant that because Peace is cold there are no droves of Israelis in Cairo to be harmed by the riots there and before that to be blown up in buses visiting the Pyramids or Luxor. Boy, was I wrong. A leftist like Haber comes up with the most ridiculous arguments to twist everything.
9. #2, it would not have missiles raining down
Danny   (11.23.11)
on its cities from Gaza
10. STILL EARLY DAYS
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.23.11)
Too early to tell .Only time will tell if Israel made the correct decision to relinquish the sinai....or if it was a big mistake.
11. #6 Egypt
joe tango ,   usa   (11.24.11)
The problem is when the Islamist gets into power and wants to March To TA a fence will not work. You must be young and dont remember the Yom Kippur War.
12. No. 10, what time? It has been 30 years
Marco ,   Spain   (11.24.11)
This should have been more than enough to tell that this was not a worthy exchange giving land for a piece of paper.
13. 5 remarks on Mubarak
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (11.24.11)
1) No one misses Mubarak. It turns out he was a corrupt brutal dictator hated by the Egyptian people. 2) Israel does not miss Mubarak. He spent all his time trying to disarm Israel from strategic weapons so he could start a new war where he would have a chance to win. 3) Mubarak could have forced Arafat to make peace, could have prevented arms from reaching Gaza, he could have forced Hamas to release Shalit. Mubarak always made sure that Israel would be under threat. 4) Mubarak could have abandoned the demand to destroy Israel using the "Palestinians" and instead normalized relations so the Egyptian people would have food. He preferred keeping Egypt a primitive hole. 5) The best part: despite being one of Israel's most effective enemies, he will be hanged for being a Zionist, the ultimate insult. As for Haber's point 7. There is nothing Iran wants more than the MFO to go postal on the Bedouins. Think of it. Once the MFO retreats Suez Canal and Red Sea are in Jihad hands, Saudi Arabia encircled.
14. 4# Yo, Graczek! Are you aware of the fact that you're funny?
tom ,   tel aviv   (11.24.11)
15. In areas of historic animosity it's never wise to give land
tom ,   tel aviv   (11.24.11)
in exchange for a signed paper(or parchment)... DUH?!
16. GOOD, SENSIBLE ANALYSIS
Rafi ,   US   (11.24.11)
17. Armistice
michael Pielet ,   israel   (11.25.11)
This is not peace, but it is an armistice. Better an armistice than war. However israel must always be prepared for war.
18. 4
john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (11.25.11)
Is this your attempt at humor?Keep trying, you are nearly there.
19. A sensible and informative analysis
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.25.11)
This seems to me a sensible and informative analysis. However I would have liked to see Haber's opinion as to whether or not Egypt will actually abrogate the peace with Israel and turn towards open hostility.
20. egypt and the military
