1. Goose doesn't stink like pork meat
Au. ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.24.11)
What nonsense, pork meat stinks like hell, what a blasphemy to compare it with goose. That's why goose is so expensive, and pork so cheap in the world's shops. Only in Israeli could someone consider it to be "luxury meal" - only because it's not kosher... which is ridiculous, of course.
2. Proof that modern-day kashrut is a fraud
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (11.24.11)
The principles of kashrut were based on health and on Judaism, and Judaism in turn on ethics. Fois gras is the antithesis of both. Shame on you.
3. 1st Step to eating the real thing SAD
WhatNextShabbat? ,   Jerusalem Israel   (11.24.11)
Kashrut is all about taming or restraining our physical appetites our animal appetites whether for food or other bodily "needs" I find this quite sad that a rabbi a Chief Rabbit at that would be leading what will be for some the first breakdown of keeping the Kashrut laws and lead many to begin to relax other laws such as Shabbat those laws which have kept us a people with a special message to the world for millenia.
4. PORKY FICTION!!!!
al mann ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.24.11)
Progress is society going from one illusion to another. This will help bridge the gap between Israel and the nations of the world. At least we can have a taste even though we can't really ingest it. What a refief!
5. Pork
Green Baron ,   Bethesda   (11.24.11)
I wanted to obtain some pork, but I have no connections in the US Congress.
6. Just wondering.
Gabe ,   Canada   (11.24.11)
How would Rabbi Metzger know the exact taste of pork ?
7. doesn't matter if it takes like chocolate its kosher
zionist forever   (11.24.11)
Goose is a kosher animals so it really doesn't matter if it takes like pork, chocolate or strawberries its always going to be kosher.

(11.24.11)
In other words how does the good rabbi know what pork tastes like? I mean last I checked he is Frum From Birth and not a Returner soooo....when did he taste pork to know what pork tastes like?
13. totally goofy
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (11.24.11)
Okay, cooking kosher may be challenge. I have the challenge behind me and I can say that I don't miss pork! And just, as I have mastered this, Rabbi Metzger comes and says, he want's to introduce an culinary alternative, that comes close to pork?! Hey, Rabbi Metzger! How can you know that these geese taste exactly like pork? You will never master to make a "hog roast" of it! There are enough things, that can only made of pork and always only can be made of pork, unless you genetically manipulate a kosher animal to come close in every respect and not only in the taste of the meet. But then you will have to answer the question how this new animal can be kosher! No, all this will not be a gain! It will be much more interesting if Rabbis would have wasted their time in providing religious Jews with new recipes that are cheap, easy to cook and taste delicious! This would be a real benefit!!! It also would be a real benefit, if Rabbis would speak a loud word to Israeli politicians, that they must make food in general and diary products and olive oil, in special, much cheaper! For many Israeli Families it's much more important to get affordable food rather than geese that taste like pork!
14. This must be a joke!!
Z-man ,   Pest, Hungary   (11.24.11)
15. Stinky?
Boaz ,   Jerusalem   (11.24.11)
I don't about you, but before i became religious I ate tons of pork meat and it WAS NOT STINKY? There's no halachic reason for a pork taste food (that has no pork at all) to be considered non-kosher. Another exemple is, if there's taste of bugs in some food that was verified not to have bugs, it's not forbidden. Because eating the bug itself is forbidden, not its taste.
16. Mork from Ork. pork on a fork.
morbor ,   overhere   (11.24.11)
Mork from Ork will like this pork on his fork. He's no dork. sounds to me like chazedrai.

Is the Chief Rabbi stupid or what?
18. #2 Global
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (11.24.11)
Goose liver doesn't contain Trichinosis like pork does, the old Jews were playing it safe, better to forgoe pork and the risk of being inrected & killed by worms Let’s not forget that the Ancient Egyptians performed brain surgery, there isn’t much that’s new under the sun
19. #12 He hired a Shabbat Goy to taste it
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (11.24.11)
Who then told him how it compared to the real thing It didn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure it out
20. all my life I hear I'm not intersted in Pork taste

21. Kosher pork
Roxy ,   israel   (11.24.11)
If te man never tasted pork ,how can he now what it tastes like?
22. Why?
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (11.24.11)
I just checked my calendar and its not April 1st. The Rabbi must be kidding. If he is not, then what his purpose. Does he want people to get a taste for non-kosher and give up keeping kosher? Is he doing this to test the non-orthodox? Is there a sound reason for this? I think not. I can only conclude it was misquoted or a joke.
23. THE GRAND OLD DUKE OF PORK
URBAN POET ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.24.11)
24. Pork-flavored pate
Shani ,   San Jose, USA   (11.24.11)
a) why? b) is it April 1st?
25. To 15 (about the smell)
Au. ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.24.11)
If it didn't smell bad to you surely you were not preparing it yourself? Of course it smells bad, the animal eats everything, one has to put tons of garlic on it or cover it's smell with onions or even bath it in milk to take that smell out! After I stopped eating it, I watched our servant collecting all the organic garbage from our house (and from my neighbours) - to grow her pig. Than I started to understand what it's all about: animal eats trash and that's what it is built of. It's not easy to eat veal in Europe, it costs 3 times more than the pork, that's why everybody is eating pigs, and only wealthy ppl can afford the veal. Because it's much harder to grow the cows which wouldn't eat all kind of junk (and if they make them eat it - they develop some nasty disease like "cow madness"). Israelis should be grateful to have the veal at such a reasonable prices in shops!!
26. Nothing new
Dr Yeruham Leavitt ,   Kiriat Arba, ISRAEL   (11.24.11)
It is silly to make an issue of this because it is nothing new. Religious Jews have for years been drinking coffee with imitation parve cream immediately after meat meals. Same goes for artificial whipped cream on cakes. Same goes for artificial hamburger made from soya, with which you may make cheeseburgers. I am more concerned about the cruelty to animals issue. How are they fattening the geese? Also, those who are asking how the Rabbi knows it tastes like pork should re-read the article, if you ever read it in the first place. Best wishes to all, Yeruham
27. Finger licking good
RC ,   USA   (11.24.11)
Roast veal done in a baker’s oven with the right condiments will taste much better than pork. The finger licking secret is in the spices and to use a calf that s still sucking cow milk. In the summer using an open fire pit argentine style (ternera a la llanera) is even more fun. Do a large roast veal contest to find the best tasting recipes and indulge your taste buds while giving thanks to the Creator for letting you enjoy life.
28. Taliban-Like Thinking
leo ,   nyc   (11.24.11)
Oh, the mere thought that Rabbi Metzger is using logic makes the Taliban-like Jews crazy. As long as what is eaten is kosher, what does it matter what it tastes like?-it's still kosher!. Don't these people readily eat pareve "cheesecake" after a meat meal?--I guess that's an exception! Forget any logic, to be a true believer, you must make life painful---what stupidity!!
29. Jews should be vegetarians
Sidney ,   USA   (11.24.11)
Killing and eating other animals would offend any God that I could respect.
