Because it'll usually make an ass out of you and me. As far as that assessment: how did that work-out for ya? God bless Israel...and praying for more wisdom from their military leaders'. The people deserve better!
2. Assessment?
Z.Z. Coltrane ,   USA   (11.29.11)
You'd think that being surrounded by untold millions of fanatical animals', the military would show better judgement; I'm pretty sure that's what they're paid for?! If I were an Israeli parent who had a child, peacefully, sleeping in the other room, and knowing that the alarm system was not turned on, I wouldn't feel to warm and fuzzy. There is no excuse for ineptitude; heads should be rolling, now! God bless Israel!
3. Please !!
nva ,   jerusalem   (11.29.11)
Please please Bibi...FIRE BARAK..anyone !! even my next door neighbor ..would be better than this man. He makes Am uneasy. WHY is he still on board???????
4. what's going on?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (11.29.11)
isn't the warning system NORMALLY on? why would it ever be turned off, regardless of "intelligence (sic) assessments"? an important part of israel's defence was caught sleeping - will the idf take appropriate measures to discipline those responsible? and is it a coincidence that the rockets were fired when the system was turned off, or are the terrorists capable of monitoring when the warning system is off?
5. We are so keen to prove ourselves idiots!
Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (11.29.11)
A tom, dik and harry or even a donkey knows that the things are heatting up in surrounding countries. We have seen in past lebabon war, what our intelligence is capable of. Please do not be soo impatient to prove ourselves idiots. Which fool will suggest to keep siren system off in these days?
6. Suffering attacks when systems "turned off" or removed
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (11.29.11)
Recall that the Israeli warship, INS Hanit, was struck by a missile during the Lebanon 2006 war when the defense system was turned off. And after the IDF had recently removed the Iron Dome system from the southern border, the PRC or one of its associates fired a few more rockets at southern Israel. Is the IDF trying to save a few shekels by telling itself "there's no immediate danger"? These systems need to be maintained 24/7. Given the determination of Israel's enemies, there is *never* a time to be casual about the threats.
7. nobody must come to harm, but its somehow reminding of a
eporue ,   europe   (11.29.11)
sitcom or so, with your idf... there is a huge hole in the egyptian fence, and nobody looks at it... then iron dome is put to the north, announced in the newspaper, then hamas shoots... then iron dome is repainted, hamas shoots... then iron dome isnt in the north, for a change, hezbollah or whoever, shoots... and then on top of all, the siren is switched off... no iron dome, no siren.... but main thing, they send the pregnant journalist three times through the x-ray...

9. I do hope this was not a cost-cutting measure
Henry from New York ,   USA   (11.29.11)
Some of the Titanic's faulty construction was a result of cost-cutting. You might save a few NIS, but it could also cost you your whole ship.
10. this negligent attitude has been around for decades
zionist forever   (11.29.11)
It doesn't matter if the risk is high or low the whole purpose of a warning system is to be something thats switched on at all times so if there is a problem however unexpected there will be a warning. In 1973 the government ignored all the warnings because Golda wanted Israel to be seen as a victim rather than aggressor abroad if there was a war coming and the military advisors had told her was was inevitable was just a matter of when. The result was more soldiers were killed than should have been and we came close to losing. In 1981 Peres planned to make Begin's plan to bomb Saddam Hussain's nuclear reactor public because he was worried how it would affect diplomatic relations with France. So the father of Israel's nuclear program would have liked Saddam to get nukes and then when he got them we could investigate why we didn't do anything. In 2006 the crew of a SAAR 5 missile boat had turned off their systems designed to protect them from missile attacks. Then Hezbollah fired on that ship and they were just lucky the thing didn't sink and people get killed. This is also the attitude thats prevented Olmert and now Bibi from replacing the Mughrabi Bridge. They know its unsafe but turn a blind eye for the sake of politics and then when the thing collapses and people are killed we will just look for a scapegoat. Negligence is a real problem with both the military and political establishments in this country.

besides the other "no's"- no anti-missle batteries and no early warning system
12. sirens turned off
Yankelev, PhD, Msc' ,   Coral Springs USA   (11.29.11)
I have written many times before: This cowardly, inept, wishful-thinking government is to go under military tribunal - since it is not possible under the "democratic" rule, the Jewish Nation can only hope for Mashiach Tzidkeinu,- more real to Jews, than political promises from all our" well-wishers" combined.
