1. Israel is becoming a 3rd world country
Stas ,   Netania, Israel   (12.01.11)
With a severe brain leakage. I know I'll be leaking out, once I'll finish school. A lot of people I know plan to do the same and I study engineering. Bet that it's no different for doctors, especially now, when they were fucked over by the government
2. #1, You are right. Israel is hurting itself.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.01.11)
I know many Israelis, including dentists and doctors, who have already left the country. The government is only interested in fighting wars for the rich, and care nothing about the people. So get out of there as fast as you can. I know you will do well in another country. All the best.

And after several years, the majority of Israeli expats who end up staying for a prolonged period keep droning on and on about moving back to Israel, how they miss the culture, the friendships, the food, the relatives, and even the national health insurance system. As someone who's seen both sides of the issue, it's not so simple.
4. To 1,2 and 3
Manup   (12.01.11)
Just say that what most interests you is to make as much money as you can. You don't need to invent excuses.
5. Bring in nurses from the Phiippines
Al   (12.01.11)
I just had an operation at the Jewish General here in Montreal. I had to stay there for three days. The Filipina nurses are incredible. They work like machines and they are very effiicient. I did meet some former Israeli nurses from Israel..useless is the word with them. They figure the world owes them a living. Those that do leave Israel...no big deal. Bring in the Filipinas...they will save your lives.

That's what they are saying. There is nothing wrong with being like everyone else, ourselves included.
7. All of you - what do you suggest instead???
Brian ,   Los Angeles, USA   (12.01.11)
People like to drone on and on and complain about Israel - but really, what do you suggest we do instead? Pay nurses exorbitant salaries? And who will pay for that? Us! The fact is, the standard of living in Israel is increasing. People have more money, are living longer, and living better. Yes, prices have to be reigned in, but increasing doctor and nurses salaries to sky-high levels is not going to help that!

A major problem is the Misrad haBriut. I have been trying to return to Israel to work as a Physician Assistant for more than 20 years. The profession would improve ALL the shortages mentioned, but the decision makers refuse to recognize it. BTW - Saudi Arabia just opened the first PA school in the Middle East, with help from my alma mater, George Washington University.

I guess when one's a loser it does not matter what side of the issue they stand. I made Aliya to the usa in '69 and lived in a real democracy since.By the way , what's going on over there ?looks like the real israeli type is finally here -oy vey......
10. If hospitals would go back to the old ward system of a lot
Rivkah   (12.02.11)
of hospital beds in one room instead of one or two in a lot of rooms, fewer nurses would be needed and there would be witnesses for when nurses try to harm someone.
11. 5 Al: That was not my experience at Panorama City Hospital
Rivkah   (12.02.11)
near Los Angeles where I was taken after a Japanese national ran a stoplight and hit me head on as I was turning with a green light turn signal. The Filipino nurses were horrid. One left me on a steel bed for hours waiting for an x-ray and when I asked her to help me sit up since my sternum was fractured, she said, "I am not going to hurt MY back helping you!" I weighed about 135 pounds and it would have been a simple matter for her to help me sit up. When washed, the sponge was wiped from back to front (anal area to vaginal area) to deliberately try to cause an infection. When I objected, I was told, "Are you trying to tell ME how to do my job?" Horrors. Send the Filapinos back to the Philippines! Don't bring them to Israel!
12. nurses
chana ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.02.11)
bring in nurses from India?! The state of Israel dont even recognize diploms from Hungary...
13. Yentas in panic mode
US Navy Officer ,   ship at sea   (12.02.11)
history tends to repeat itself. A country doesn't produce enough nurses. Filipina nurses sare imported. The menfolk discover that SE asian women make better mates than the yentelehs. The Yentelehs go into panic mode. Ever wonder why are there no Thai army dischargees (yeah, they have universal conscription also!) flying to Israeli beach resorts?
14. practical solutions
lactmama ,   Ashdod, Israel   (12.02.11)
The medical system in Israel is something to be proud of. The lack of support it receives is not. If there are not enough RNs right now then encourage people to be practical nurses (then giving a chance to become RNs). Enroll religious people who do not want to go in to the army but do want to serve. Find other groups who have no been able to find professions easily and bring them on board. These people, support staff, can free nurses for more valuable work.Bringing back wards can only lead to more disease and less healing. Healthier lifestyles means less use of medical systems. Criticizing without constructive ideas never helps. For those of you who want to leave - it is always good to live in another country for part or most of your life. Your choice and br grateful for it.

Which exhorbitant salaries are you referring to? Israeli nurses have one of the lowest average salaries of professions in Israel.

At first I was wondering why you were adamant about speaking of a nurse as one who has a high probability of harming you. Then I understood; you were speaking of a FILIPINO nurse in AMERICA. I understand you were maltreated, but I don't think that translates to Israel as easily as you feel it does.

19. nurses - why???????
sas ,   israel   (12.03.11)
low salary long hours and the public has NO respect for them. have you been in a hospital lately??? do u hear how people talk to them????- as if they are garbage. VERY SAD but VERY TRUE. I was a teacher - was treated the same way. fortunately could leave the profession early and NOT work. I was treat like s..t and c..p by 99% of the parents and children. I swore to my my husband that IF I need to work i will celan houses/buildings/shops but NOT enter a classroom. Had NO support from the principal. She had her friends and they were entitled to walk into her office and talk to her. Anyone else - it was off borders.
