61. #40 ACortez: wishful thinking
Tom ,   USA   (12.03.11)
The hard left, 60-es generation controls every important post in the US society. It's a well organized and financed international movement with over 150 years of history. There is no credible opposition to the Leftists for fear of being called "racist" "bigot" etc. The US must crumble first like did the Soviets and E. Europe before the hard left can be purged.
62. To # 53 Hey Harry, did you ever hear
jason white ,   afula, israel   (12.03.11)
about a spell checker. Leon can not neutralize our bombs. There are both Houses of the U.S. government that would throw his and his jihadist boss' butts out of office. He is a POS just like b.o. and he is good for nothing!
63. Dpown Under dope
fred lapides ,   orange, ct, USA   (12.03.11)
ChrisB from Australia: you have enough problems with your cute country to concern yourself with the US and its financial problems..We just built a new base in h]your country to keep tabs on the likes of you;
64. With All Due Respect,
Christobal ,   Dallas, Texas USA   (12.03.11)
Obama may get re-elected and Leon may hang in there as what used to be called Sec. of War; but resolving all the chaos and madness that has been unleashed since last December? I'd suggest sticking to wine coolers. Heroin is not good for the system. Love, peace to all.
65. #37 Harold
GOOD ,   USA/Israel   (12.03.11)
Sorry to disappoint you but America is not the pillar for Israel's existence, God and the Jewish people of Israel are. It is great and helpful to have a good friend like the U.S. is but Israel will survive and thrive without too.
66. Panneta out of touch
bernie ,   Old Bridge   (12.03.11)
Should Israel do as Panetta recommends as PlO shoots missles at Israel and Egypt becomes a more extreme Islam country.Maybe this is why Israel gets its war over with in30 days , but the US is in Afghanistan over 10 years.
67. He looks like he just danced all night at Berlusconi Waga Wa
Alan ,   SA   (12.03.11)
68. Why do US politicians always present a simplified story??
rind ,   US   (12.03.11)
First of all, the United States and the middle east have their own BIG issues, with or without Israel's existence, but that's another story. A two-state solution is the right thing to do (although some would say it should wait until the Palestinian elections, so that they have a united government), but it may not lead to instant peace as many expect. War or violence for a period - even from civilians - is a serious possibility. Face it: The creation of two independent states won't necessarily make them like each other. Considering their history in the region (which is more complex than most Americans "get" - including some American Jews), it probably won't. Sadly, the fence may even have to stay up for a bit. (or a new one along the decided borders) But who says they HAVE to like each other? Should Israel should go for it, anyway? Both sides will have to accept the consequences if violence and anger continues. If hatred of Israel continues, people will see it for what it is, as Panetta says. On the other hand, it is not in Israel's "short term" interest - - Things are seemingly 'comfortable' now, although they may not be fair. More comfortable, and less violent, than they were during past peace talks and pre-occupation. However, the two-state solution will probably be beneficial in the long run. I guess Panetta is trying to say "Go for it", but his statements, as reported above, present a shallow image of "stubborn Israel" to the world, rather than a real country with complex geographical and political problems.
69. Peace
Steve Love ,   Texas   (12.03.11)
Not too long ago in a UN meeting PM Netanyahu looked in the eyes of PM Abbas and said “Your father and my father came together for the funeral of our father. Let us get back to the table to resolve our problems.” Israel was always willing to sit down with anyone and everyone to find a solution for the crisis. But how can we negotiate and reach an agreement with someone who thinks terrorism is the answer for everything. Die and kill policy will never work. Beware the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel is alive and in control. Please look up to Him for guidance and lasting PEACE. With love
70. Panetta, why didn't you negotiate with Bin Laden?
Valdi   (12.03.11)
No, it is not Panetta. It is the failing US arrogance. "We don't understand Russia, why it is supporting Iran?" I tell you: Though Russia does not want nuclear Iran on its borders, it even more does not want to be surrounded by NATO's silly rocket shield! Same as US is rightfully telling Israel to try to secure peace by diplomacy, rather military only - which by the way Israel is trying to do since 60 years - same is true for USA - there is no security by rocket shields - cooperate with Russia, and don't push it to become your enemy again, and Israels as well! May be after US experience in Iraq and Afghanistan it is more inclined to learn from history yet again - don't mess with Russia.
71. There is a solution
Boris ,   Canada   (12.03.11)
Push the table agains the wall, and turn the feast into a buffet. It's self serve,a nd everybody stands up, no one needs to sit down.
72. Sarah B (with two commas
Moragh   (12.03.11)

73. Panetta is just a SLEEZY mafiosi ! Period!
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (12.03.11)
74. So easy to blame Israel
BH ,   Iowa   (12.03.11)
This administration rewards the PLO for avoiding talks, then blames Israel for them not talking.
75. 2 state oslo is gone
alexi   (12.03.11)
obama speaking through panetta pressures israel to cut a deal with liars and killers in order to take some heat off the US, where iran will continue its worldwide terror and rocket buildup and not lose one step. Obama is totally wrong. And panetta, an intelligent US politician of old falls into the same trap as george mitchel did. They both asked israel to cut a deal with liars and criminals who would uphold any paper they signed. Arabs have to moved to jordan and only loyal arabs to israel can stay-end of story.
76. Shut your damn mouth !
who cares   (12.03.11)
77. Enough of lecturing Israel.
(12.03.11)
78. Security.
Gabe ,   Canada   (12.03.11)
The present Administration has messed up Egypt. Obama has no idea where Egypt is going or how to finish what he started so mindlessly. Egypt is a US problem.
79. Harold.Its US Senate +Congress that represent the People,not
Alan ,   SA   (12.03.11)
Panatta. At this time Israel has the ear of the Senate Congress and people.;... Isolated voices like you trying to convince us otherwise is like a fart in thunderstorm. Obama and team messed up big time with their sponsorship of upheavels in North Africa and M E. We cant help them try to salvage something by jumping under a bus. I dont care who Panatta is... he does not count too much for us.
80. Wake up,friends
Joe Asfoor ,   Burke,USA   (12.03.11)
The USA ca not continue to be bound by the whimsical nature of attitudes displayed by Israeli politicians and a band of ill fitting partners in a coalition. The USA has its own strategic goals and as long as others come along every body is happy. What I mean is clear: the US strategical goals and objectives ca not be subordinated to Israel's narrow view of the world and peace. If you need peace, the US is here, but do not think for a moment you can treat your best friends in all sorts of names if they have different views than yours. Kapish ????
81. The Peac table is Damned !!!.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (12.03.11)
82. Israelians, Panetta is right.
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (12.03.11)
Israelian friends. Mr. Paneta is right. Your State can not be isolated. I do understand your revolt against Arab Palestinian radicalism and against lack of comprehension, from several countries, about Israelian struggle for living in peace and security. But, as he told Netanyahu, strong military forces must be connected to a good diplomacy. Not all Arabs agree with Hamas or Hezbollah. Jordan and Egypt are, yet ,moderate States. Turkey is it too, despite of the last incidents. The U.S.A. are your best supporters. Don't disregard the ones that endorse Israel very much, exactly because of her original idealism and principles. Peace is possible, yet. Give it a chance.
83. Ron Paul Won't Tell Israel What To Do!
Jeffrey ,   Texas   (12.03.11)
Free Israel! Let Israel decide what is best for Israel!
84. #57
Harold ,   USA   (12.03.11)
The Palastinians have deeds showing they own all Palestine. Where were the Jews for 3500 years. They were not in Palestine. They were in Poland, Germany and American as Helen Thomas said. If they were in Palestine then why Israel have ALIYAH importing all Jews scatered around the world doing business and cheating the peoples there. Moreover why Jews are discribed Morrocon, Iraqi, Yemeny, Iranian, Egyptian, Syrian, Lebanese, Polish, Ukranian, Romanian, Hungarian, English, Australian, German, Italian, American and so forth Jews if they were in Palestine. Wake-up
85. #79
Harold ,   USA   (12.03.11)
Are you an AIPAC member or a NeoCon.
86. Panetta is doing Obama's lackey work!
Michael Redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (12.03.11)
Panetta hasn''t got a clue when it comes to the Middle East :-( The Muslim Brotherhood just took over in Egypt and the Salafi's who make the Brotherhood look like extreme moderates got 20% of the vote. So what's Israel supposed to chat to them about? Israel will wait and see what role the army plays because Egypt's army wants peace with Israel. And what is Israel to say to Turkey that has moved further and further to an extremist regime over the last several years. "Sorry about the flotilla incident. Our soldiers should have allowed themselves to be lynched". ourchangingglobe dot com/reuters-is-up-to-its-old-tricks-again-using-photoshop-to-obscure-and-pervert-the-truth Replace the word dot with a . and remove the two spaces. The PA? Abbas has very little power and is getting weaker all the time which is why he's trying to cut a deal with Hamas. Abbas turned down a couple of great offers already because he doesn't want a deal, he wants Israel's destruction. He wants a Jew free territory for Muslims, and won't recognize Israel as a Jewish state because he later wants to try and flood Israel with Arabs. One can only imagine why Obama chose this anti-Israel ignoramus to be Defense Secretary. Obama has had to back off of the Israel bashing because of elections so he's getting this boor to do the job.
87. panetta
michael Pielet ,   israel   (12.03.11)
it's not panetta talking its obama. the only isolated in the region is the US
88. Obama just promised Jewish voters that he'd protect Israel
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.03.11)
so now he sends his minions to say this??? Only Americans could believe Obama.
89. #80. Joe: You'd better wake up too!
Tom ,   USA   (12.03.11)
The US delusion of grandeur is still persists in many American's mind but when the Russians says " stop it" and send its rocket/ships big mouth Americans back off. How is your project going at Syria? If Putin says "boo" Obamao's coterie cringe and shut up. Bashing small countries is what you Americans do best but you are afraid of the Bear.
90. #37. Israel can do very well without Obama.
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.03.11)
#37. American aid to Israel was insubstantial till Israel proved her valor in the 1967 Six Days War. Before that, someone like you would have said "France is the pillar for Israel to exist". Israel can do very well without Obama. So can America. Israel is a major power onto herself.
