Iraq's prime minister Al-Maliki has stated his support for the Syrian regime so has Iran. Once American troops leave in about two weeks Iran will be able to ship everything Assad needs to stay in power and it will go thru Iraq with the approval of Iran's puppet Al-Maliki.

"sanctions" will not convince assad to fall on his sword.
he is not an american client, and so his regime is not dependent on american support.
and by declaring that america has no intention of intervening militarily, the obama administration has thrown away its last remaining card in this poker game. and condemned thousands more syrian civilians to death.
now all they can do is bleat "assad must resign" from the sidelines.
