61. Let's not vilify Denmark because of one village idiot
Judith PPF of Judea   (12.06.11)
Denmark did a most noble human act in history, during WWII. No other country did what they did to save their Jews from the Nazis. Don't all of you forget it. To this day I'm still fazed by their amazing almost above human courage. From Wiki: The rescue of the Danish Jews occurred during Nazi Germany's occupation of Denmark during World War II. On October 1st 1943 Nazi leader Adolf Hitler ordered Danish Jews to be arrested and deported. Despite great personal risk, the Danish resistance movement with the assistance of many ordinary Danish citizens took part in a collective effort to evacuate about 8,000 Jews of Denmark by sea to nearby neutral Sweden. The rescue allowed the vast majority of Denmark's Jewish population to avoid capture by the Nazis and is considered to be one of the largest actions of collective resistance to repression in the countries occupied by Nazi Germany. As a result of the rescue and Danish intercession on behalf of the 5% of Danish Jews who were deported to Theresienstadt transit camp in Bohemia, over 99% of Denmark's Jewish population survived the Holocaust. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescue_of_the_Danish_Jews
62. Boycott Denmark and Their Products
Texana ,   Dallas, Texas   (12.06.11)
I used to buy products from Denmark. Not any more.

solomon ,   bklyn   (12.06.11)
When someone (such as yourself) closes their eyes to history (read some; it will disappoint you I'm sure), it's as bad as being an anti-semite. The"pals" had a chance for their state in 1948, but turned it down. They fled from the real owners (who had been there for 3000 years; the arabs, a paltry 1300 +/-). And "murdering thousands"? You really don't like reality, do you? Instead you surround yourself with wishful thinking. And that is anti-semitic.
64. A few thoughts on this
Someone in the know   (12.06.11)
Israel can of course easily ask, resort to, even threaten the EU as a group with consequences if this lamentable state of affaires continues for a few more days. Let's see who loses more. Under these circumstances there is nobody sane who would not give Israel its due in this spat seeing Denmark's behaviour. In the end, who needs who more? Especially in a sort of "cliffhanger year" in many respects like 2012. Israel could, indeed should or must, publicly say (let the European Union know) that from January 1, 2012 it will sadly be forced to suspend its regular dialogue and relations with the EU barring a sudden change of heart by the Danes. This brazen, totally unacceptable and blatantly rejectionable behavior by boors should not be toelrated by Jerusalem in any way, shape or form. And Denmark can them f*** itself royally. (Its ecnomy by the way as an after thought is slated to fall into recession next year and practically ground to a halt already this year. Good luck with that Copenhagen - one of the ugliest and most putrid capital cities in Europe far and wide; but this latest remark is strictly a subjective, I admit unelegant observation and sorry for this in advance...)
65. No electric car for Sovndal
Cynthia ,   USA   (12.06.11)
He can ride a camel as Denmark and Israel work together on a joint venture to manufacture and distribute the electric car in Europe. This guy should be replaced for unprofessional behavior toward Israel.
66. why?
mehrdad ,   germany   (12.06.11)
i realy dont understand why the people of denish people voted for the leftists in the last elections? you HAD a good liberal government and was on a good way to reduce the islamization of your country and now that! be sure that the leftists will do what they can to let even more muslims into your once loovely country to make it impossible for a right and liberal party to win a election in the future. 5% muslims get 40%! of the social walfare money and you vote left???

Excellent reminders. Thank you.
68. #61 Judith: Past behavior?
Tom ,   USA   (12.06.11)
You're living in a nostalgic past which is long gone. Once upon a time the U.S. was our true friend, today beware of Obamao and his Jstreet army. Yesterday the Danes saved the Jews indeed, today the Germans give the subs and Danes show the finger. To sum up, past behavior is not a sure indicator as per what the future holds: generational changes occurring all over the world ... cogent people be mindful of it. One should not make judgment on reflexive, knee jerk emotions rooted in the past.
69. Denmark
Harold Z Levine   (12.06.11)
What do we gainzby having diplomatic relations with Denmark. Its a rather chilly country with anti semitic blood. We dont visit it anyway - nothing of interest there It would be amusing to see if as a new EU residency president for the year they grow up.What kind of a foreign minister can he be if he does not interact with countries representatives
70. Don't Like Anti-Israelism
World Citizen ,   the world   (12.06.11)
Change your bad behaviour. Quit acting like fascists. Stop attacking people and countries that have not attacked you. Treat other nationalities, cultures, races and religions with respect. Quite acting like the world owes you something. Israel is not special. You are not chosen.
71. Unreal
Stealth ,   Philadelphia   (12.06.11)
Nobody must ever criticize Israel, but you all have no problem criticizing others. Bunch of Anti-Danes.
72. Dennmark???
Rick ,   toledo Ohio   (12.06.11)
MEGA-PHONIES are out in force today. Shame that Israel is paying most of these people to speak favorably of Israel. Most of the response on this site is pure BS for Israel. You should thank GOD you have a man who recognizes the evil of the terrorist Israel. Sad Israel has to pay people to speak favorably of them and this site is loaded with mega phonies.
73. #70. Islamist-Leftist propaganda
Tom ,   USA   (12.06.11)
It was Israel and the Jewish people who were attacked in the past and threatened with annihilation today. We reject the savage, Islamic propaganda - which is stirred up by their Leftist shill worldwide. The news is awash with Islamist atrocities the world over: no day passes without bloodshed committed by the radical Muslims. Islam is a pure, totalitarian fascist ideology encompassing stoning, genital mutilating, honor killing and the list is endless. Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq... those are the true satanic places: Israel is a peaceful oasis by comparison.
74. #72. Rick: Obama worship is over
Tom ,   USA   (12.06.11)
Do you really believe that the World in its entity is lusting for Jewish blood? That there are no decent people who stand by Israel against the Leftist-Islamofascist evil cult you are shilling for? You supporting the true evil which led to the death camps set up by the two headed socialists hydra: the Reds and the Browns. You Obamabots are paid by the Soros Inc. to pester Jewish media: us Jews we shall defend our nation against your type of murderers be it Danish or our own self-loathers.
75. #68 tom
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.06.11)
But one shouldn't forget the past either. I don't think Judith's post showed "reflexive, knee jerk emotions rooted in the past." It was a reminder.

solomon ,   bklyn   (12.06.11)
While posters here may go overboard in condemning a country because of an MP, Sovndal's words (and your own) cross over from anti-Israel to anti-Jew. 'Anti-Israel' assumes facts are brought into play and that diplomatic protocols are observed. By not meeting with the Israeli representative, meeting with those who threaten Israel, and blaming Israel for "the state of human rights in the Gaza strip" [while ignoring Hamas, etc], he crosses over into anti-Jew. By calling Israel, terrorist (#72), or stating that Israel should "quit acting like fascists...stop attacking people and countries that have not attacked [Israel]" both of which are blatant lies, and saying " Treat other nationalities, cultures, races and religions with respect." (#70) as if Israel doesn't [It does and is the only country in that area that does], reveals the antisemitism that you try to hide behind Israel bashing. Please do not bother to deal in facts. You would be so disappointed, you wouldn't know what to do.
77. #44 and others...
Silkey ,   Denmark   (12.07.11)
No need to be cruel and insensitive to #35, who was merely stating a well know fact here in Denmark AND Aarhus. I have lived in Denmark for 21 years and although it isn't perfect, it certainly isn't anti-semitic. The largest minority happens to be from Arabic countries, so of course they are most supportive of them. The young people think in order to be an activist, one hold anti-Israeli views, most politically correct of late. The older generation knows better. The Danes, however ignorant of Middle Eastern history and current affairs, are not vicious, or evil people. Please don't bash them, just because of one politician. 80. Boycott?? What?? Why??
Birgitte B. ,   Furesoe, Denmark   (12.07.11)
Why resort to boycott of danish products??? That's just mean. I am danish and support Israel with all my heart - and so does my mother and many other danes. I don't agree with Villy Sovndal on this issue, but I do with most other issues. Don't preach hate! Instead you should write mr. Sovndal and tell him why he is wrong!
