61. To All Those Talkbackers who...
Yaakov Landsman ,   Jerusalem   (12.07.11)
...who keep saying the problems in Israel is what keep Jews from making Aliyah. Have you ever considered that if good quality people come then we can start addressing the problems together? What is this business of "fix everything and then we will come"? Are you part of this project, the building of a Jewish State, or not??
62. Let's get to the meat of this thing.
USA   (12.07.11)
Can Israel and the Galut (exile) coexist? Were they meant to coexist? For how long? Any Jew who really believes in the Torah, the Tanach and doesn't view it as Jewish mythology knows the answer to this question. Maybe the question itself will be offensive to American Jews but it beginning to seem like Judaism itself is offensive to American Jews.
63. #62 and the "meat of the issue"
Jonathan ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.07.11)
#62, the meat of the issue is that for the vast majority of religious jews (religious Reform and Religious Conservative), Israel is the only western country where they cannot practice their religion freely. The orthodox taliban jews are turning Israel more and more into an undemocratic dictatorship. In Israel one an be orthodox or secular or fight all the time for breadcrumbs of rights. In the west, non-orthodox religious jews are flurishing, synagogues are full, jewish schools are full, cultural centers are full. Decent Israelis need to take bake their country, rebuild zionism, bring back the values we had when we built the state. Then people will come 'home' and love Israel again. The ads totally missunderstand the west. They totally miss the point. Jewish values are florishing everywhere. Israel needs to look back and see where it went wrong...Lieberman, Bibi, Shneerson and Ovadia Yosef are the problem, not the solution.
64. Israelis in America
nancy tamir ,   caesarea, israel   (12.07.11)
The article is shallow and gross. You want the American to come here? Give him a job as well as giving one to his spouse. The guy in the ad has parents living in America, celebrating Christmas. What to do? That is one of the challenges of mixed marriages. Culturally, the writer doesn't know anything about life in America.
65. to #64 - the author has standing
Yocheved ,   Chicago   (12.07.11)
The author was born in Israel, grew up in the US, and made aliyah back to Israel after marrying an American Jew. He and his wife have parents in the US. His mother is originally from Russia and wife's parents are American Jews and her grandparents are Holocaust survivors. So to point of #64, Yishai has significant understanding of the issues involved here.
66. Things To Consider
Yocheved ,   Chicago   (12.07.11)
As you all know, Jews are not from North America originally. Jews are a Middle Eastern people kicked out of Israel (with a remnant remaining but majority were out) and spread all over the globe. We (the Jews) have been good at surviving and kept our culture going in times of comfort (re#62) and times of terrible oppression. Now for the first time since being forced away from Israel, it is relatively easy to go back home. So let us consider: 1. Is staying afloat in comfort abroad our objective at this point when we CAN go home? 2. Why not go to Israel and struggle with our haredi et al brothers and sisters to make Jewish life multi-faceted and diverse? 3. Does it have to be ready made and all set to go just like it is in Canada or U.S. BEFORE we can go? Is not not our responsibility to get into the ring and create the Jewish State as we want it to be? 4. If we sit in comfortable Jewish centers and communities around the world b/c Israel feels a little too "black hat" Jewishly, are we not missing the greatest opportunity in history to finally go home and let our children walk on the ground they are learning about in Jewish schools and classes week in and week out? 5. Is it worth the effort to you? If yes, what to do about it? If not, why not? Peace and love to all of you.
67. I can't believe so many of you don't get it
Barbara ,   US   (12.07.11)
The theme of this ad campaign is Come Back to Israel Before Your Children Turn Into American Jews. It might be too late already, hurry home. Of course American Jews are insulted by this. If you can't see this, you are dense. Why don't they make some ads that say Please Come Home, We Need You Here. In the meantime, fix the problems that drive people away and keep them away and leave Americans alone.
68. Bringing Israelis Back Home
Nechama ,   Jerusalem   (12.07.11)
I don't find any of these videos offensive. They speak the Emes in a mild way. It is the Amer Jews that are so assimilated that this becomes a sore spot with them. The self-denying Amer Jews have a difficult time relating to Israel and its message.
69. #47
Tal Messika ,   Israel   (12.07.11)
got you. i understand. i can see the point. really alot more of us should come home.
70. #67 Barbara, I could say the same for you
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.07.11)
the vast majority ofIsraeli Jews remain Jews American-Jews, melt and assimilate, at the present rate of 50% intermarriage, the American Jewish population will join the dinosaurs You should notice one basic fact With the exception of Jewish-American's, all other ethnicities refer to the home country first Irish-American German-American- Italian-American etc. I don't believe you can find any other nationality that say's it is American first
71. Right on!
V ,   Tel Aviv   (12.07.11)
Who wants cheap, classless, frecha 'Dafna' when you can have a beautiful, tasteful, articulate American girl. When Israelis stop acting like animals, Americans will stop thinking of them that way!
72. great article!
mike ,   k4   (12.07.11)
73. #71 What? Are we talking about the same Jewish girls?
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.07.11)
Israeli women are much better than the American JAPs who are horrible selfish women. I didn't love any Jewish girls until I met my Israelit; I thought all Jewish girls were stuck up and obnoxious before that.
74. #17 V. TA
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.07.11)
Your post sounds very self-descriptive, fortunate ly most aren't like you One wonders, why are you still here?
75. From a pro-Israel Catholic American
Joseph ,   USA   (12.08.11)
This was an interesting article to read; prior to reading it, i had never heard of or seen these ads. I agree that it is important that American Jew's retain their religion and culture. This nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, and America, as a whole, has supported Israel. I would like to point out that here in America, there is not only a war on Hanukkah , but a war on religion as a whole. THIS is pop culture, not Christmas. As a Catholic, I realize the importance of the Jewish culture and religion. It is the same that Jesus was raised in. I will continue to voice my support of Israel and Jewish culture and religion.
76. & #67
#70 ,   usa   (12.08.11)
unfortunately, this article forgot people like our family's children which includes me and my children. so, yes this is why come home ! these children, "us" mixed didn't ask to be, "us" ; so ? we "native" american and jewish american all in one person and people can't come home to Eretz Y'sreal. we can't find acceptance from even the american's let alone our supposed home in Israel. we are not enough american and we are not enough jewish and worse the christian world doesn't like us and we are questioned and are suspicious of even in the reform alone and what would it be? more so in orthodox? smi hut ?
77. Tribal jingoism -
Alexei Stakhanov ,   NY, NY   (12.08.11)
Compare the ads as you describe them to propaganda for the Fatherland, the "true cultured" races, and the "healthy family above all" of you-know-who and reread your article. Only the government of Israel could have come up with these in 2011.
78. Ad campaign
Robert ,   Florida USA   (12.08.11)
I am an American Jew with two Jewish parents and a Hebrew education. The Israeli branch of the family has a special place in our hearts for their bravery, sacrifice and contribution to the Jewish state. Goldberg has a deadline to meet and space to fill, and leaders of Jewish organizations have to justify their salaries and fancy titles. I for one take no offense from the ads and thank Ynet for the thoughtful article.
79. Israelis should show some respect
Ben Levy ,   Seattle, USA   (12.08.11)
American jews are for the most part secular, but we do identify with the Jewish culture if not the religious dogma. Most American Jews have a very soft spot for Israel, mostly because of how many Jews have been persecuted and exterminated throughout our history. American Jews fight extremely hard for the military and monetary support of Israel by the USA. Most christians and otherwise in America get deeply annoyed and disdainful at Israel for what they perceive as Israel causing problems. For example refusing to make concessions or peace with the Palestinians, and what is generally viewed as a violent heavy handedness with the Palestinians. American Jews are the ones who convince the rest of America to provide you with sophisticated weaponry which gives you your advantage over an enemy who greatly outnumbers you. So to see you spouting ignorant hateful things about American Jews, offends us. Because we stand up for you when no one else in America will. So show some respect because without us you would be swallowed by arabs.
80. Did you hear the one about the Israeli?
Paul ,   Germany   (12.08.11)
He started a company, it was a great success ;)
81. Ads
Srul ,   Florida, USA   (12.08.11)
We have a large billboard at a major intersection in Aventura, a northern Miami suburb with a heavy Jewish and Israeli population. It shows a child with the message about Xmas and Chanukah, in Hebrew. I love the billboard and agree with it. I speak hebrew and am embarassed that any American jews would be upset! And I am a native American!
82. Shut the Hell Up
concerned citizen ,   New York   (12.09.11)
"As an Israeli living in America....SHUT THE HELL UP....You're a small country...we are the bastion who supports you...." The language is that of the second son who has separated himself from the community, with "you're a small country...we ....support you" SHUT THE HELL UP Sounds like the ad struck a deep chord.
