1. Big Deal
(12.06.11)
One would have thought this was going to be some nasty, misogynistic joke. But they're not making fun of women, they're making fun of the religious b.s. And rightly so.
2. sensationalist headlines
bob ,   potomac us   (12.06.11)
like # 1 I expected some sexist joke "about women"--or at women's expense--but it was only a joke ironically poling fun at the latest psycho-frum demands of the neo-pious. Yediot Acharonot was always a yellow-journalism tabloid paper--and this headline speaks to that fact--despite the digital revolution--and the hip logo"ynet"
3. he he he.
Salma ,   Palestine   (12.06.11)
Sorry I missed the joke.
4. Well, well...
Aaron ,   Spartanburg, SC, USA   (12.06.11)
What's more embarassing? The joke itself? The censors' inability to prevent its publication? The fact that the censors would actually violate press freedom to try to hush this up? Sad.
5. can we please over-react for once?
Golan ,   modiin   (12.06.11)
6. The mainstream press can't take a joke.
Ypip ,   Canada   (12.06.11)
Its the same press that lies, cheats, steals, manipulates, deceives, schemes, smears, and plays on fear.
7. Simply a joke and in no way offensive.
Spencer ,   Israel   (12.06.11)
You don't have the intelligence to understand the joke.
8. Behind every joke is a modicum of truth
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.06.11)
It was just a joke, but in truth, when the army makes such a fuss that the men HAVE to listen to women singing, it makes me feel that that's the army's idea of the role women should play. The joke's a joke. What's behind the joke is insulting.
9. Thinking revealed
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (12.06.11)
When Gantz thinks it is funny shows the man's lack of understanding. It isn't a joke that Orthodox men can't hear a women sing. It doesn't affect their ability to be soldiers. It shouldn't be an issue. Kol Hakoved for the press for refusing to allow this "joke" to be censored. It is one thing to censor things that can harm the countries security, another to censor what shows the real thinking of "leaders" BTW # 2--if i read you correctly, an anti-women joke is not allowed but an anti-religous is?????? Fool, these are the religious that DO serve in the army, hold jobs, etc. etc You must want to polarize the country even more.
10. The joke is not the problem, its the censorship
Ivan ,   Haifa   (12.06.11)
Israel became a dictatorship
11. This week's antisemites!
Gunnar ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (12.06.11)
Based on how the debates usually proceed in this forum (4 weeks ago it was Norway, 3 weeks ago France, 2 weeks ago Iceland, 1 week ago Denmark etc), only one conclusion could be drawn: BARAK AND GANTZ ARE THIS WEEK'S ANTISEMITES!!!
12. Oh PLEASE!!!!!!! get a life people
Talula ,   Israel   (12.06.11)
It's no big deal - AT ALL!
13. political correctness
alexi   (12.06.11)
isreal would not exist if political correctness ruled the day. Israel would not have overcome egypt in 73 but for sharon's insubordination to bar lev. So be careful what you wish for -the gal ons and livnis. Big deal if gantz and barak joked about women's breasts and whatever. And what do gal on and her friends talk about when they have had some drinks. Gal on-youi are like livni, and I am not impressed one bit.
14. What Rabbis want
David ,   LA USA   (12.06.11)
The Rabbis never said women should not sing, they only said that soldiers that did not want to listen should not have to listen, get your facts correct
15. A good old boy joke but shows gross stupidity to tell in
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.06.11)
public. Then to be even more stupid when they know it will get out they try to hide it. Many of the religious would like to serve, women included, so show some decency and respect at the TOP which means getting rid of these two.
16. Sensor all they say then, they are a joke
Robert ,   NY USA   (12.06.11)
17. So? Women soldiers probably joke too.
mea   (12.06.11)
The issue is not the joke but that Gantz lost his sense of place and ordered the (almost) free press to censor something upon his demand. But even that is;t anything--He barked an order, so what.
18. Old fashioned generals
Noa   (12.06.11)
1. Good old chauvinism 2. Still believe media can be blacked out. We certainly need a generation change!
19. It is not the joke but the aim to censor the press
Björn ,   Haifa, Israel   (12.06.11)
fact
20. I'D LIKE TO TEACH THE WORLD TO
THE JEW SEEKERS ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (12.06.11)
I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony , but heaven portend ,it might offend a haredi on my knee . I'd like to see the world for once all standing hand in hand ,and if the haredim don't approve they can go and pound sand. That's the song I hear ,let the world sing today ,of intolerance that never goes away .
21.  GANTZ
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (12.06.11)
Don't make such a Gantz meggilah out of this ( gantze meggillah )
22. CAN THESE FOOLS PROTECT ISRAEL?
Zimbi ,   NJUSA   (12.06.11)
23. Hope that Hezballah doesnt advance on Galil with girls choir
Alan ,   SA   (12.06.11)
24. Gentlemen (Boys) say u r sorry & don't do it again!
Mashaket Ta'ash ,   Israel   (12.06.11)
25. Yawn, must be a slow news day
Joe ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.06.11)
Why is Ynet even covering this idotic, meaningless story? Please stick to matters of concern to the public
26. Barak is the Hezbollah's danger creator
Oleg ,   USA   (12.06.11)
He run away from Lebanon betrying those who were on Israel side, leaving them to the hands of Hezbollah. From that day nobody in Lebanon, even those who hates Hezbollah, will trust Israel,. Barak is a dirty politician, who acts only to be popular. Get rid of him.
27. I HAVE A BETTER JOKE
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (12.06.11)
Did you hear about the chinese couple who split up ?? she went back to Nanking and he went back to wanking.
28. They deserve credit for being on speaking terms.
Michael ,   California, USA   (12.06.11)
Let's see how long it lasts between these two. It was Barak who did not know how to take a joke, but maybe he has changed? If so, Bibi deserves credit also.
29. should be the worst mis-step
Wade ,   NYC USA   (12.06.11)
If this is the worst misstep of these fearless defense leaders, then Israel is indeed in good hands! I chuckled when I read it and I am no enemy of either women soldiers or the religious. The joke implies that too much fuss was made regarding the women vocalists, and I agree. I would not force any soldier to listen against his will and I would not prohibit any female from singing.
30. Stop with the singing and let the soldiers
jason white ,   afula, israel   (12.06.11)
do jobs that the military needs. Someone wants music there are plenty of sources for that. Or let civilian music groups volunteer to entertain the soldiers. When I was in the army we were too tired to listen to music. Or we had patrols, equipment to fix or more training.
