1. All men in prison can say, "I'm innocent" and mean it.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.07.11)
2. Katsav enters prison.
Spencer ,   Israel   (12.07.11)
It's about time!
3. Something's wrong with an old gray man in a prison.
Michael ,   California, USA   (12.07.11)
For the first time I feel sorry for Katzav after viewing how pathetically he looks in the photo. He deserves punishment for his atrocities, but there should be a way for achieving it without an incarceration. How about making him wash dishes at an IDF base for seven years? He can be allowed to buy himself a vafla once in a while to supplement krekerim from the gazlan.
4. @3 why like this?
Ami ,   Israel   (12.07.11)
I understand your comments however why should a convicted rapist who happens to be a former president of the State of Israel do his time any differently from any other criminal? We are a nation which firmly supports equality before the law and since he is a convicted rapist he should serve his time like any other convicted rapist. I feel no sorrow for him he violated and raped several women his punishment is just.
5. #3, does someone have to assault your wife or daughter ?
mea   (12.07.11)
before you fathom the monumental pain of rape? Maybe you should imagine for a moment how you would feel about some pervert using his position to coerce YOUR daughter into sex. Then imagine how you would feel if his sentence was to become a janitor for 7 years because he managed to prolong his offense long enough to grow old. Do you think his victims are all fine and dandy now? You may think this is sex but it is about assault. Listen, if you think a rapist should get off because he looks for,orn you need to re-evaluate your ability to discern basic information and where you fit in dude.
6. Katsav Faces Injustice!
Mark Dallal ,   BeVERLY HILLS,USA   (12.07.11)
Katsav may be guilty of coercion, but he is certainly not a rapist. The judges had ZERO proof. The Israeli justice system which is supposed to be most "fair " has failed miserably in convicting a head of state by hearsay because he is Sephardi. It sounds like some politicos have an axe to grind. Imagine convicting Rabin!
7. Oh shut up already! Innocent men have gone to the gallows
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.07.11)
with less whining... If you were wronged: keep on fighting the conviction, don't give up. recently there was a movie based on a true story of 11-year long fight to prove innocence. It could be done , you know...
8. Be happy that you are still alive!
George ,   Antwerp   (12.07.11)
9. Katsav playing the victim - LOL
Haim ,   TA   (12.07.11)
Oh palease the man has been found guilty beyond all reasonable doubt. He is a serial sex offender in denial. Just a matter of time before he tried the race trick " The fact is that I am from a Muslim country and from a development town" Strange that didnt stop him becoming the president of Israel. The man is pathetic, he deserves every day of his sentence. A good day for justice and a good day for all women who have been victims of a sex offender such as Katsav.
10. @3 & 6 G-d 4bid u should be raped by ur boss....
watcher ,   Israel   (12.07.11)
...then surely (and very sadly) the words you have written here will come back to haunt you! And surely you would want to recall them and want that your rapist (G-d forbid such a vile thing) would be found guilty under the laws of the State of California. Which is to say please rethink your positions. Mr. Katzav isn't the victim he is the perpetrator of the crimes and he was found guilty. He will do his time like any other criminal in the State of Israel.
11. Exchange of prisoners
EM ,   Ra'anana   (12.07.11)
Why would he claim to be from a "Muslim" country ...unless he hopes to be released with the next prisoner exchange of terrorists.
12. His Word Against Hers
Moshe ,   Petach Tikva, Israel   (12.07.11)
It comes down to this. He claims he's innocent. His alleged victims claim he's not. The court believed them, not him. This case should have been thrown out of court for lack of evidence. Very sad both for Katsav and his family. Also sad for all of us that we have such a poor excuse for a court system.
13. Reply # 12 Moshe in denial
Haim ,   TA   (12.07.11)
And if a man molested your daughter, wife or mother im sure you would be the first to scream injustice. The court had proven beyond all reasonable doubt that Katsav raped, and sexually harassed these women. In fact not one but 7 women filed complaints. How uneducated of you to blaim the courts. Katsav and his lawyers dragged this case out for 5 years and was given every opportunity to prove his innocence. He is a serial sex offender and deserves every day of his sentenc e. A good day for justice and a good day for all women who have been victims of sexual abuse.
14. @12 u 4get Mr. Katzav DEMANDED his day in court!
Israel ,   Israel   (12.07.11)
He claimed innocence (and still claims to be innocent) and DEMANDED that he have his day in court. You forget that Mr. Katzav was offered at least two different plea bargain arrangements and he refused to accept them. He stayed his course and had his day in court. All of this despite the advice that his lawyers gave him. Please do not insult your own intelligence by coming around now and claiming that Israel has "such a poor excuse for a court system" The court system of the State of Israel is fair and works properly. Just because you (along with Mr. Katzav) don't accept the courts decisions don't blame the court. Please do go and blame Mr. Katzav for his insouciant belief that he is above the law and that he could do as he pleases. He was found guilty...enough let him at least have the dignity to finally admit his guilt and accept the punishment that was set for him according to the laws of Israel.
15. VIGOROUS DEMOCRACY
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.07.11)
Do you think the same could happen in any Arab country? Or do they are models in respecting women?
16. When will Olmert join him in prison?
Ariel ,   Europe   (12.07.11)
Can't wait to see this swindler go behind the bars.
17. #16 - and what about Lieberman??!!
jo ,   London   (12.07.11)
18. Mr Kacav in jail
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (12.07.11)
A misterious and sad story. The only result is that Israel's enemies will be very satisfied.
19. Siman Tov Ou Mazel Tov
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (12.07.11)
20. 'You're burying me alive' - no man, YOU did that yourself
Talula ,   Israel   (12.07.11)
21. #1, #13
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (12.07.11)
Katsav was not convicted "beyond a shadow of a doubt", he was not presumed innocent and the prosecution did not have to prove he was guilty. Despite no evidence being presented, the court decided (and we know why) that they had to convict him whether he was innocent or not. But that is beside the point. The judges gave Katsav the maximum sentence hoping to break him. If he admits the rape he did not commit, he will be able to go on frequent leaves and be free in 3 years. If he maintains his innocence, he will stay 7 years. But keeping things in proportion, the important thing is that Peres is president.
22. Katsav!
Yoel ,   Lod Israel   (12.07.11)
"As you sow, so you reap"
23. Where is the proof?
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (12.07.11)
Did they do a DNA test, were there cameras or is it her word against his. Who says she does not have a grudge, or payed a lot of money to say something against him. If I hug someone can I be imprissioned. If he done it he deserves punishment like everyone else but, do I need to say more. May be I watch to much CSI but if you can't show me more proof then Moshe is innocent.
24. Understand why none of our judges are from Kiryat Malahi
Gracey ,   Israel   (12.07.11)
"He is a former president, not just anyone," said Kiryat Malahi resident Nati Ayash. MAKES IT ALL THE MORE WORSE DOESN'T IT!!!! What an Idiot!
25. Interview
Talula ,   Israel   (12.07.11)
In the interview Katsav also hinted at ethnic and class prejudice: “The fact is that I am from a Muslim country and from a development town,” he said. Those comments should be enough to extend his sentence by another 10 years! Just goes to show what a thick, stupid and despicable man - not to mention utterly deluded - he really is. You know they've lost when they play the "I'm a Sephardi and I'm being persecuted song" How disgraceful is he! How the f**k he became president, I'll never know!
26. moslim country
carlos- ,   tel aviv   (12.07.11)
;-0 whahaha this was what you was thinking before you make your walk to the jail, in a moslim country the woman get raped and go to jail as well ,this is not a moslimcountry so you go .. have funn and remember don't pick up soap in the badroom .
27. @23 Moshe yes! u watch too much CSI
AmiChai ,   Israel   (12.07.11)
and you are confusing the television version of the American legal system with the reality of the American Legal system....after all in the USA people get held and tried in Guantanamo Base in Cuba!! BTW, no one needs to show you anything they've already shown it to the Judges of the State of Israel and their verdict is all that counts in this matter!
28. I agree with number 6!
Chaya ,   Tel Aviv   (12.07.11)
I believe he is innocent! I knew him and his family when we lived in Kiryat Malachi. He would not do such a thing!
29. to the posters defending & protecting this convicted rapist:
Savta ,   Israel   (12.07.11)
All of you would do very well to remember that: When Maidale (yiddish=young lady) says "No!" Maidale means "No!" and if a man is so disrespectful as to even remotely think that Maidale's "no!" means "yes!" simply because he's in a position of authority over her....well then he should be punished to the full force allowed by the law!
30. A TRAP of Israeli women , abviously......
