2. Stay Out of It
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (12.08.11)
Dictators come and dictators go, nothing shocking or new here. Assuming the momentum is against Assad, and he is replaced what then? What about the day after? Will the Islamists take over the government, directly or through stealth? What about the Muslim Brotherhood/ Having two countries under their rule (Egypt/Syria) gives them clout..in the M.E geopolitics. And what about Israel? Will Syria become more-proIsrael, or continue the hostility? Will it demand the Golan Heights before talks. And assuming it gets the Heights, what then? Point blank, its okay for the USA to comment. But Israel MUST stay out of this fight. Presently, it is not a Jewish fight. I doubt the insurgents have any more love for we Jews, than Syrias presidents.
3. He is a close friend of Iran and terrorism
Joe Harkins ,   Sun Valley USA   (12.08.11)
How could you possibly expect him to be a normal person and in his right mind when he is a major supporter of terrorists. May he swing in the Market Place .
4. That's it, dude. You're dead. Roll over.
HaifaGuy   (12.08.11)
The fall of this one, for once, does mean some good news for us. Not for Nasralla's dogs nor for their puppeteers over in Teheran. Nor for the evil sorcerers hiding behind the Kremlin walls. Speaking of whom, has Putin already started counting his blessings? Or packing his $300,000 wristwatches? Medvedev must be downstairs keeping the getaway car's engine warm. Well, this one will take time but, not unlike Assad's cozy little Alawite arrangement, the Russian fascist junta will also one day be toppled. Inshalla, sooner than later.
5. Here in Norway we have one person...
Kristine ,   Norway   (12.08.11)
declared psycotic with delusions of grandeur, who planned massmurder in secret, and therefore nobody could have prevented the terrible attacks July 22 Ahmadinejad has declared to the world that he has a “mission from Allah” to bring about the Apocalypse needed, massmurder, destruction and chaos as preconditions to occasion the return of the Mahdi and Jesus. Radical Islam: The Myth of Mahdi and Jesus is Defeating Iran http://www.torahblogg.net/32628552 At the same time Iran is working full force to gain nuclear weapons, the Iranian government has also produced a documentary that claims that Khamenei, Ahmadinejad, and Nasrallah are talked about in Islamic prophecy as leaders, who will wage war to bring about the arrival of the Hidden Imam. Iran's End Times Documentary : The film uses current events to argue that “the final chapter has begun” and the Mahdi’s arrival is imminent. http://www.radicalislam.org/content/iran%E2%80%99s-end-times-documentary The concept of psychosis is also used about state of minds, which appear because of strong influence of suggestion, for example war- and mass psychosis.
6. So he's "disconnected", but Obama&Hillary are not?

7. And His Crazy Brother Putin Just Gave Him MISSLES!
EZRA THE PROUD JEW ,   USA-ISRAEL   (12.08.11)
These two belong in padded rooms. They deserve each other. Russian is a MAJOR concern for all of humanity: over 700,000 ethnic Russians are dying each year from alcohol alone, not to mention drugs. In 10 years, Russians will be an ethnic minority in their own nation AND they're led by a lying madman (Putin). It's a sad state of affairs there. Syria has always been full of loonies so we already know the nonsense that will continue over there...but Russia is where the attention should be: at least there, there is hope.

11. he is neither disconnected or crazy he is in trying himself
zionist forever   (12.08.11)
The man tried to play things the way his father successfully did and use the tactic of brutal crackdowns but he failed. He has dug himself a hole he doesn't know how to get out of it because the more he kills the more people will turn on him but if he stops killing he will have to resign so he keeps killing in the hope eventually the people will say we give up. What Assad needs now is a distraction to give him some breathing room and I imagine eventually it will come by convincing Hezbollah to provoke Israel into a small war with Lebanon. The Syrians will focus on Lebanon and the aggression turned towards Israel. Assad will stop the killing while the war is going on and make some speeches and when its over the momentum for regime change will be gone providing Assad doesn't start killing again he will be safe. Once he has control he should try and start some kind of job creation program because in Egypt & Syria at least it started because of a growing young population and lack of jobs not a desire for democracy. Give the people jobs and they will be content and no risk of future revolts and as long as the Syrians are happy the west will forgive him.
12. assad no more delusional than obumma, just kills more.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.08.11)
13. Right side of history, what a joke!
David M.   (12.08.11)
The US, he said, continues to "heavily pressure the international community to get on the right side of history, as working toward a democratic transition in Syria is a priority to the administration. What democratic transition? It is clearly a transition to Muslim Brotherhood. From the very beginning of the Arab Spring that was clear to everyone except to the always delusional Left. After Tunisia and Egypt to believe there will be a democracy in Syria, it cannot be even a delusion. The US administration under Obama is obviously working for the Islamists.
14. liar
nosson tzvi ,   J-M   (12.08.11)
The man is not crazy and he is very well connected to his evil lies. These tyrants lie wholesale to their own people- why shouldn't they lie to the rest of the world?
15. assad
sas ,   israel   (12.08.11)
he never has been connected to reality. CRAZY he certainly is.
16. Was he ever not 'disconnected' or 'crazy'?
Netanya ,   Netanya   (12.08.11)
He has always been, maybe the world was disconnected from reality if it was unknown. It was just ignored!
17. did it take the US this long to figure it out?
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (12.08.11)
Good grief, the man, like his predecessor, is looney like a loon. It was clear to everyone. Same as was with Gadaffi, and a few others.
18. No, No, No, We're not friends
Kerwood Derby ,   Frostbite Falls, MN   (12.08.11)
the extramarital BJ artist betrayed her hatred for Yehudim when Syria was labled as a reformed arab imperialized landYET belongs to others. Syria was even a UN Human rights chairman without condemnation by the wide load extramarital BJ artist. BB gave the first land to those that come to kill you. What is the similarity here? Neither of them act in the interest of Jews who love the land that protects them and is named for them. Neither act to remove the threat (IDF mandate too). They leave the threat in your midst instead of enforcing the their right of return back to the homicidal Hamite peninsular homeland of their own name. THAT WOULD BE HUMANE SO YOU WOULD NOT HAVE TO KILL THEM WHEN THEY COME TO KILL YOU AGAIN (HEAVEN FORBID).
19. He is right about one thing
Ezra ,   San Diego   (12.08.11)
The U.N. is not a credible organization. That he's got right. As for the other stuff, it appears he's not in control of his military. He needs to issue a statement condemning the actions of his military. Then there's the issue of him lying.
20. assad makes walters look like an idiot
rick ,   walnut creek   (12.08.11)
of course, assad is responsible for the repression in syria and lebanon and the alliance with iran, etc. he is a despicable cretin. but, after all these years, walters can only use her kindergarten skills to question assad and she winds up looking like a simp, an idiot, a moron. her approach to the interview would be disappointing in a middle school journalist. typical of the American press. mostly, arrogant, complacent, fools.
21. Sick
moriah ,   sacramento usa   (12.08.11)
A homocidal maniac who sounds like a combination of Elmer Fudd and Count Dracula
22. Syrian/Arab Leadership
Susya Bar Dror ,   IL   (12.08.11)
Same signs as with Assad we observe with Acnedimmijad and other arab leaders. And, last but not least, with the current Israeli political leadership.
23. After moi le deluge
Sarah B. ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.08.11)
And what will come after him? Have you all thought about that? Who will manage all the military equipment, including those we don't know. Frankly, the guy is mentally instable but it worries me what comes after.
24. His brothers run the UN& UN NGO's. They cover
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (12.08.11)
up human rights abuse in the Moslem world as a rule. This must so blatant that only Assad cant see it.

26. Talkback knows more than USDS!
JVL ,   LA, USA   (12.08.11)
And this is the a*&hole Israel is supposed to give the Golan to... or his father? State (Dept. of) is a joke as is the tired US policy of cozying up to murderers and fascists. How much longer does this continue? Until the gas runs out? I don't think we, the people of planet earth can take it much more, let alone the Syrian people or the Israelis. We do need regime change... get the politicians out, put real human beings in... that is very simplistic and doesn't address a century of feuding in Palestine or Israel but we all have children, we all have hopes for the future...but for me... I see all of them... Obama, Clinton, Assad, Netanyahu, The EU caricatures of politicians... not as equally culpable rather but cut from the same cloth... power hungry a*&holes who maintain a horrendous status quo so the machine stays on. I'm no "Occupier" but I think there is something very wrong going in the human condition like greed, avarice and power issues camouflaged by religion, ethnicity and territorial issues.
27. Understanding Assad
EZ   (12.08.11)
Most of the posts and nearly all of the Western press displays a fundamental misunderstanding of the conflict in Syria. Assad is an Alawite. Alawites are not Muslim Arabs. They are some sort of group that was there before the Arab invasion - like the Druze, the Christian Lebanese, etc. They got power by infiltrating the Baathist secular Arab party and managed to hold on for >40 yrs. Since they are Middle Eastern, they know the score. If they lose power, there will be a bloodbath. What is going on in Syria is a sectarian Civil War with one side armed but numerically weaker and the other side unarmed but numerically stronger. That is why Assad kills "his" people without remorse - they are not his people. Re Hezbollah: I doubt Hezbollah will come to his rescue. They will try to survive and play the Lebanese patriot card. After he is gone, they are going to have much bigger problems with a Sunni Arab Syria that supports the Sunnis in Lebanon, and allied with the Saudis. Hezbollah will be forced to confront a hostile neighbor who, unlike Israel, is not asked to respond "proportionally" or "with restraint".
28. indeed he's disconnected from reality but...
watcher ,   Israel   (12.08.11)
Cudos to "our woman"* Barbara Walters! After all it took an American-Jewish woman to point out to the USA State Department that Assad is "disconnected from reality or crazy" With all due respect Ma'am: "You go girl!!"
29. # 27: a good comment
Maximilian Teusch ,   FL   (12.08.11)
thank you for this information. It seems that the world around Israel ticks different from the western-european world. I hope your politicians understand it.
30. ???
John ,   Herzliya, Israel   (12.08.11)
They must have used some kind of questionnaire or test to come to such a conclusion (Assad 'disconnected' or 'crazy'). I am wondering: What would be the outcome if they would use the same procedure on their own president? Disconnected sounds right!
