1. The slogan "Two Countries for Two Peoples" is valid:
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.08.11)
only it refers to us , the sane part of Jewish populaton & the "Tremblers/Haredim". You know why they are trembling ? -Afraid of the Truth about their unseen/unheard- from Spirit in the Sky. Imagine He simply... AIN'T?Inany case, until they grow brains (never) we'll need separate land for these druggies....you can call it Palestine if you want to :-)
2. free choice includes who to hear
David ,   Shiloh Israel   (12.08.11)
Religion is a question of free choice, to accept or reject. The same goes with almost anything else in life, including who one wishes to listen to. Perhaps, the greater question should be a community's entitlement to share common values, about what religion to accept, and who it's acceptable to listen to in the process? Israel is a Jewish country, and Judaism is a religion, like it or not. The IDF invited religious soldiers to serve, without compromising their values. This debacle arose in the first place because some observant soldiers were placed in a compromising position, against their choice. Accordingly, why should such freedom to live an observant life within a compatible community be under attack? Mea Sharim is not for me, but nobody is forcing me to live there, and likewise, nobody should impose their worldviews upon those that do. Israel is definately not Iran and to suggest such is just plain nonsense. On the contrary, this whole mess is caused by those who would 'deny' free choice as to who one should or should not listen to. For the record, I personally sometimes enjoy listening to decent female singers. However, should an entertainer force their audience to listen against their wishes?
3. honestly and deeply worried
Yael Schlichting ,   Raubling - Germany   (12.08.11)
I believe the problem goes deeper! The questions are: What is a Jewish state? What is a Jewish society? What active role do the Frum play in it? What active role do the Secular play? What are the real problems, we are dealing with? I have the impression, that the rejection of the Frum by many other parts of the society and there isolation leads to extremism. They are living in their own world! We need to get them out of this isolation! I appreciate, that more and more of the Hareidi are enlisting to the IDF and that there are programs to integrate them into the labor process. But we must not expect short term results! And the secular also need to learn a few things! http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4157152,00.html http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4157427,00.html A Jewish State cannot be compared with occidental-christian states neither can Iran be the blueprint for a society. It's not about money! We must see, that Judaism allows us to build a state and society that gives us more freedom and self-fulfillment than we can get in any other place on this planet! And to close this: I believe it is a big shortcoming, that Israel doesn't have a constitution! We need a constitution to which the Rabbis agree, which authoritatively codifies the intrinsic inner working of our state/society and makes clear, that the Torah is important, but the interpretations of the Torah must reflect the here and now! We need to answer today's questions! A getaway into the past is not an option!
4. Ahinoam Nini guaranteed a small crowd
ExaremeLeftArtists ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.08.11)
The presence of extremists leftists like Nini and others guaranteed a small showing they are outside the general consensus of even those who are in support of the issues.
5. I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR..
Talula ,   Israel   (12.08.11)
In numbers too big to ignore And I know too much to go back an' pretend 'cause I've heard it all before And I've been down there on the floor No one's ever gonna keep me down again. United us woman stand - well done all!
6. how about
ecr   (12.08.11)
worrying about the Jewish girls being taken to arab villages and being tormented? We have halachah and whoever follows these laws and that's for thousands of years, folks, knows women are not discriminated against in Jewish law. These issues are used as a platform for fringe types. Sing to whoever will listen, but it won't be to religious men, ok? As for the division of the street in Meah Shaarim on Sukkot, well these women would not be caught dead there anyway. If you don't like it, stay away but know it's for a good purpose, not what you think.
7. I LOVE to hear women sing from afar
Israeli 2   (12.08.11)
about how great men are. LOL - they are WOMEN after all causing men to fall. Hee...heee..heee....Just kidding.
8. #5 Get a grip calm down "Meow"? end
FrighteningAmazonWmn ,   Jerualem Israel   (12.08.11)
9. How dare you compare us to them???
One   (12.08.11)
Women here have the choice. Jewish people don't cut their women's clitoris or murder them if they do something different. people can choose here. maybe it's frowned upon, but they can choose and live life as they want. unlike the comparison that thinks it deserves a death penalty. shame on you idiotic girls who think being a moron in public will change anything.
10. respect for women
yoni ,   tel aviv   (12.08.11)
respect for women can only be given when men stop objectifying them. Look at the damage caused by the objectifying of women. How do we fight that phenomenon? How do we stop the beast?
11. no 3, yael... the rabbis actually agree to put law over
eporue ,   europe   (12.08.11)
torah... i apologize to not remember, but the rule sounds like "nada xy nada", and puts civil law over the torah... it was initiated somewhen in the middle ages, and has been practised since then... maybe not by the haredim...
12. Jerusalem becoming "Little Iran"?!
Morgado ,   Portugal   (12.08.11)
13. The Ultra-Orthodox radical sects
cohen, Israel   (12.08.11)
has no place in the modern state of Israel. Their all aim is to 'destroy' the spirit of the modern state of Israel.
14. #5 Talula: Please ROAR and ROAR and ROAR!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (12.08.11)
Many of us of the other sex will ROAR with you against the despicable abuse of women in this country which is being run but a bunch of religious fanatics and a Government that is trying to pass laws which will turn Israel into Jewish Fundamentalist State in the mold of Iran! People like MK' s Akunis, Elkin, Levin, Kirshenbaum decry the actions of the "Left" in vilifying our country with justification, but they are blind to to harm they are doing to Israel's democracy, which the Prime Minister boasted about in the USA in September. The right wing extremists are fueling the fires of hatred against Israel and doing the work of the Israel haters worldwide!
15. Mindless waste of energy
Paul ,   Jerusalem   (12.08.11)
The feminist cause has turned into a circus show, looking for something to get attention. When do these women have time away from supporting Hamas and other women-demeaning Palestinian issues?
16. I am a woman - and I MORE than entertainment
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.08.11)
I am insulted that other women think the best I can offer my country is my voice. I am insulted that people think men should be forced to listen to me, rather than want to listen to me. All my life I worked in a Male dominated environment. I fought hard to be recognised in my field. I did not fight hard to be just entertainment to the men that I worked with.
17. Israel for Jews is the homeland where
meghan ,   israel   (12.08.11)
they can be free. Religion mixed with politics ,I consider unhealthy and we have seen what fanatic religion does to a country..eg Iran, Afghanistan etc etc etc.., so in this democratic land please do not let religion do the same. I respect those that are frum and want them to respect the "non" frumers. DO rember our religion is passed along by mothers...a woman right? so dont push the whole root of your Judaism to one side.
18. 70-80 years ago
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.08.11)
it were others who rejected people . Those doing this today are the same .
19. women
Larry Butler ,   kibbutz nir oz   (12.08.11)
Maybe if women ruled the world ,it would be a better place "!!! what the heck we could try "
20. Rebecca , but were you rejected ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.08.11)
Nobody has to listen to voices , not even to those coming from some rabbanim .
21. How about YOU stop
Dovid ,   Israel   (12.09.11)
How about YOU stop trying to cover up the discrimation against women by making people "look over there" at Arabs? jews are not arabs or Muslims so stop treating women like Arab Muslims do. And stop acting like as long as Muslims are slightly worse, that it's okay for Jews to keep oppressing them. It's not okay.
22. How dare you ACT like them?
Dovid   (12.09.11)
How dare you try to trivialize the oppression of women by saying"hey, they are worse"? How DARE you? That opens the door for gentiles to oppress Jews and tell us that "Hitler was worse so it's okay". Stop it now. Oppressing women is not Jewish. It's Muslim, and Jews like you are more Muslim than Jewish.
23. Paul, your mascunazi ways are what is mindless
Dovid ,   Israel   (12.09.11)
You are acting just like a Muslim - oppressing women and then acting angry that they push back. You would have loved Hitler and probably would have said to not push back, right? You would also fit right in with Hamas. You are more Muslim than Jewish.
24. I'm actually happy
Mi ,   West Jerusalem/NY   (12.09.11)
that most talk-backers support this protest.... It's reassuring.
25. What happened to the Israel of old?
Scarborough1414 ,   Scarborough, Ont. CA   (10.15.12)
Recently one of our local cable stations re-ran the old movie "Exodus" with Paul Newman and Eva-Marie Saint. Filmed in Israel, I just about wept at the idealistic Israel it showed. Strong, determined, intelligent Jews focused on obtaining their own country. Novelist Leon Uris (who wrote the novel the movie was based on) would turn in his grave if he saw the Israel of today; factionalized, split along religious lines and afraid of its own shadow. On one hand we have the Arabs, on another we have the militant ultra-Orthodox and on yet another we have the loony leftist intellectuals pulling our state apart. As Kelsey Grammer would say, "what's a boy to do?"
