1. Then vs now
C McCoy ,   Canada   (12.09.11)
When I was young (dinosaurs LOL), some parents tried forbidding TV to the kids. This invariably led to them sneaking around elsewhere to watch. My parents had a good bit more sense than that, rationed me to one hour per day TV, non cumulative, on the rationale I should learn to watch the best and leave the rest.
2. To the Israeli Taliban TV enforcer
Ameridane ,   Aarhus denmark   (12.09.11)
Watch more TV, and make less children, (and incidentally have also a shave and a head trim- might you look more human!)
3. a right idiot
robert ,   London - UK   (12.09.11)
this gentleman spends his life filming his sermons and meetings and using his mobile phone and computer... he lives by them. famous for ill treating his employees. and now he condemns television? oriental primitive upstart!
4. Television is a very bad thing!
Keren ,   IL-BR   (12.09.11)
I am not ultra orthodox and I don't have TV at home. TV is dangerous for the brain ,for the mind and for the soul. TV turns people into stupids.People receive, passively, all sorts of trash , trash that molds their lives in all possible aspects. Tv turn people in slaves, without them noticing that they are slaves: cultural;social;political;economical slaves. Since the tvs were old( a trash anyway),the rabbi did very well to thrown them in the garbage. Hopefully,TV will not exist anymore. Hopefully soon!
5. Should've given me a heads up...
Etoile ,   Montreal, CAN   (12.09.11)
I would have gladly taken all those valuable electronics off their hands for no charge, seeing as they are far too ignorant to press the 'off' switch on their sets when circumstances call for it. TV is only a medium. Whatever message can simply be controlled by the owner of a given set. Now they are x amount of shekels poorer and the value those tvs had is now lost forever. These morons come out the real losers in this event.
6. The Rabbi against Television
Philippe Delaporte ,   Marseilles France   (12.09.11)
The Rabbi has all the merit to destroy the 1.000 TV sets as long as they were not HD. This will help the Electronic shops to sell more TV sets with higher specifications. The Rabbi does good for the economy giving it a boost.
7. It Was Time For An Upgrade
Chaim ,   New York New York   (12.09.11)
All these people who dumped there old TV's were looking for an easy free way to dispose their old garbage! Now comes a 50 inch LCD TV with all the trimmings. Look closely you'll see not a single flat screen was thrown out. LOL
8. tashlit
avi ,   ny usa   (12.09.11)
Is ok they should collect to have a 24 hrs jewish religious channel -ultraorthodox- not only in the usa but in israel. Just like our brothers in the christian sector. Tolaration is the name of the game not anarchi thanks
9. Books ?
Sagi   (12.09.11)
Yes, and we all know what happens when books are burned, there is an inevitable follow up.
10. recycling
Allan ,   Toronto   (12.09.11)
GREAT WAY TO RECYCLE THOSE OLD T.V.S ! WAY TO GO RABBI.
11. I'l keep my 46 inch LCD, thank you very much.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.09.11)
12. TV is a bad thing in general
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.09.11)
It distracts you from important things (like self-improvement) and damages iittle children for life when you let them watch it (it causes them to develop ADD and then they have trouble studying).
13. now that's very bad for the environment
david ,   uk   (12.09.11)
14. Insanity and delusions of grandeur
Eddie ,   London UK   (12.09.11)
This guy has obviously lost his marbles. He has messianic pretensions, and sees himself as an Elijah type figure, which is clearly delusional. As if giving up TV would take away all of Israel's woes. There are haredi mikvaot where the TV-less men abuse the boys. So obviously the lack to TV has not improved their behaviour.
15. I always wonder about these people
john ,   Beverly Hills, CA   (12.09.11)
people who bark too loud have something to hide
16. I have three old TVs in my shed.
Michael ,   California, USA   (12.09.11)
Will be watching for the Moshiah to show up. I hope it shows up during the day so that I can see this creature.
17. TV
Rochel ,   Los Angeles USA   (12.10.11)
I agree that TV is both bad and good. For instance, my son has a block on his TV so my grandchildren can watch quality TV without the schtus. Computers are bad, too. G-d created good and evil. We have free choice. Use the intelligent choice and learn Torah - either through TV, computer or Seforim.
18. He should have thrown himself in the
jason white ,   afula, israel   (12.10.11)
garbage. I have not watched t.v. for a few years now. It was because the programming is so poor and cable shows just repeat all the time. I get what I want from the internet and from my ebook. T.V. may someday disappear from our lives and be replaced by the internet or some new technology. We do not need some moron telling us what to do. If someone enjoys t.v., then let him or her watch. It is supposed to be a free country.
19. television
S.G. ,   Toronto Canada   (12.10.11)
@#4-Keren: so don't watch. But spare us the lecture.
20. television
s.g. ,   Toronto Canada   (12.10.11)
@Henry: Causes ADD? Where did you get your education, your MA or PHD? Ask for your tuition back and please, preach elsewhere. Those who want to watch should do so. You, Henry, should not.
21. Rav Amnon Yitzchak is very cool
Yoni ,   Israel   (12.09.11)
He is one of the few with guts to lead the masses in the right direction.
22. To #2 Denmark and #3 London
Eli ,   Jerusalem   (12.10.11)
The problem with you both is that you are racists and anti-semites (even if you happen to be Jewish by birth.) The "make less children" comment is very telling. Our Torah says make more not less. That is why we mantain our Jewishness. To Robert from London, not a very Jewish sounding name, "robby"...are you a proper English gentleman. Do the "wogs" bother you so much, you insect! It is no wonder that you live in Galut, it is where both of you belong: Londanistan and Denmark Eurabia.
23. #20, huh?
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.10.11)
I am just about to get my B.A. in archaeology actually, but I can't see how any sort of liberal arts degree would be relevant in any way to this. I have read in many places such as MayoClinic that watching television at a very young age has been shown to contribute significantly to development of ADD. Something to do with how quickly stuff changed around, I don't quite remember. I also can see it in many members of my generation as well as myself who watched TV at a young age and later. Besides, what else could account for it (maybe the internet)? Preach? What? Just do some research of your own, kiddo, that's why we have Google. :) Agreed, adults should, but they should encourage their kids to read, play sports and socialise with friends rather than becoming couch potatoes.
24. to Eli in jerusalem
robert ,   canterbury UK   (12.10.11)
my dear fellow jew... rabbi amnon is an idiot and you know it. when a rabbi will be also a man who can build a mobile phone or a tv set and play the piano, speak 4 or 5 languages whilst still remain religious, humble and act with Hessed... then, i'll join you in a tolerant, free, caring and special eretz israel at peace with istself...
25. today TV- tomorrow books- again?
Rachel   (12.10.11)
way to go rabbi- today throw out the TVs and iphones- tomorrow we start throwing out the books- just like Middle Ages..... one step forward -two steps back. Weak people who cannot see a woman without having nasty thoughts, cannot watch TV and select a good program, I feel sorry for you.
26. hahah
Ariel ,   Toronto   (12.10.11)
So old fashioned!! I wonder if anyone caught this with their iPhone 4Gs? In other words Rav Amnon, the proliferation of technology in the developed world is too strong a force for religious idealism to overcome..
27. A new Guiness record
Tomek ,   Poland   (12.10.11)
the previous one was four
28. To Eli Jerusalem # 22
Ameridane ,   Aarhus, Denmark   (12.11.11)
Dear Eli- do you mean that you have to be an anti-Semite or be a Jew by birth so as to criticize a fanatic rabbi- you must be kidding, the only people that I can compare this stupid rabbi to are the Talibans. His next step will be to whip women that don't cover their heads. (Taliba style) As far as kids are concerned, just look around you and tell me how many ultra orthodox kids go to university or are at work. In Denmark the Muslims know this trick of producing a whole lot of kids and then get State assistance- does it strike a cord?
29. Rabbi confirms religion no longer relevant
Haim ,   TA   (12.11.11)
30. Good idea to protest the TV garbage undermining society.
Josh   (12.11.11)
I have cherished the times I had no Television. Every time I turn it on I loose hours and am angered by the smut on it that forces me to change channels far too often.
