1. Muezzin calls by telephone only !
Gabe ,   Canada   (12.08.11)
2. If you know the mosque was there when you moved there...
Ben ,   Tel Aviv   (12.08.11)
you can't really complain that it bothers you. It's like moving next to the shuk and complaining that it's noisy and smelly. You knew that when you moved it. Don't like it? Move somewhere else.
3. They have watches, cell phones, don't need to annoy others.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.08.11)
4. shelved !
eporue ,   europe   (12.08.11)
i mean, in europe it isnt even permitted for all i know, but to prohibit the muezzin in the middle east, even in a jewish state, goes to far - again...
5. why not churches ?
eporue ,   euorpe   (12.08.11)
...yisrael beitenu doesnt want to annoy their extremist friends... what a bunch of racist opportunists...
6. If Moslems are offended ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.08.11)
... they are free to leave Medinat Israel -- the Jewish state -- at any time. No one is forcing them to stay. And if they are so unfamiliar with the dictates of their "religion" that they need to be told when to pray, then they have no right to claim refuge under their "religion." I know when to light candles on Friday.
7. I love those shouting Arabs from their
Israeli 2   (12.08.11)
mosque's turrets. It is soooooo very Middle Eastern. I condemn their hate spewing everytime they do it, but they are what they are. Israel would never be the same without them. Never EVER ban other people's faith just because they are in Israel. Contrarily. The first thing I would do when I return as king to Israel is to eliminate all images (idols)....big or small.
8. Why today does muezzin's call need to be amplified?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (12.08.11)
They got by for 1300 years without PA systems. Moreover, why don't they take advantage of modern technology - using text or a cell phone app - to tell those interested in the prayer call? It's simple. They want to proclaim their preeminent position to do as they please. Time to pull the plug.
9. Its the artificial volume which is problematic
Israeli grandma   (12.08.11)
Nothing wrong with the muezzin's 5 times a day call to prayer in the traditional way, but modern high volume speakers are a serious nuisance to everyone. Ambulance noise is not a 5 times a day problem and the comparison is false. Its no coincidence that Muslim countries have made efforts to control the electronic calls, and Israeli lawmakers are not being unreasonable.
10. @3
Paul ,   Germany   (12.08.11)
History is replete with tales of religious persecution. They lead to no good. One thing we should all be able to agree on is we have freedom to worship. I know the noise is a bit annoying but you know what, just deal with it. Sing a song, invent a funny dance, make faces. Put a smile on your mush, be positive, cause youre beautiful. Allow others to peacefully worship please, this bill appears a bit silly and little self-defeating, its just fanning the flames, it will make Israelis look bad again if enacted. You all have to live together after all. I like your name btw, so many positive rhyming possibilities.
11. @2 a truly ignorant remark
izzy d   (12.08.11)
do u have any idea how far away you can hear them? lol @ the tel aviv bubble
12. Our minarets are our bayonets?
Jim ,   Tel-Aviv   (12.08.11)
What does faith have to do with terrible noise at 4am? Tradition? Maybe, when people didn't have alarm clocks. But then even if you miss a morning prayer - do you go straight to hell? Come on, Allah can't be that merciless. Rather it's Islam authorities who will be worried - you miss one prayer, another one, and then stopp going to the mosque altogether and become a Christian .
13. Anastassia Michaeli - Stalist to the core!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (12.08.11)
This party and this MK are determined to destroy that State of Israel and to totally legitimize the country! I would remind her that Vladimir Putin is not the Prime Minister of Israel and Israel will not become a Stalinist Dictatorship. She is taking her example from the way the Muslims treat the Coptic Christians in Egypt. This proposal is in direct contravention of the Basic Law and I would suggest to the proposer of a law of the type that would have been lauded in Nuremberg in the 1930 against Jews, that she should concentrate her efforts in getting the Minister of Internal Security of her party to get his police for to serve and protect the people of this country, stop the carnage on the roads and to respond to emergency calls which is what they are paid to do!
14. #2 Population expands
Eli ,   Nahariya   (12.08.11)
Actually Ben, that argument "I was here first" is kind of childish, wouldn't you agree? I think the Palestinians kind of feel that way, don't they? Population grows, more homes are built. That is a good thing. Shuks, Muezzins, Factories all need to comply with Health and Environmental regulations. That's what makes for well designed cities.
15. @Ben from TelAviv
Avi ,   Acco Israel   (12.08.11)
Obviously being in Tel Aviv, you don't have to worry about being awaken at 4:00 in the morning
16. unbearable noise
jan ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.08.11)
I find the noise is absolutely unbearable! I have children living in Beitar Eilite, Israel, and the arab villages, blast their call to their prayers so loud that it wakes us up from our sleep, disturbs children from their naps, and disturbs the function of their daily lives!
17. 3. Bunny....
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (12.08.11)
Your prejudice is showing again!!!! You're not complaining about shofars and the born again Breslav crew going down the streets in trucks at all hours with "music" blasting away. Or the loudspeakers proclaiming when Shabbat starts, in the middle of the recongized afternoon break when it is actually forbidden to disturb the peace. Boy, am I glad that you are staying in LA and only talking big.
18. When one hears someone shout Allahu Akbar, it's hard to know
usa   (12.08.11)
if one should go to prayers or run to the nearest bomb shetter.
19. What about church bells or those horrible chabadniks?
Line Singer ,   Ã…rhus, Denmark   (12.08.11)
20. #2
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (12.08.11)
Except you didn't know. They have been building mosques at a frenzied pace. Also, in the last few years they have been upgrading the sound systems on existing mosques so that everyone can "enjoy" the call.
21. Number 6 Thank you
Drew Michaels ,   Richmond USA   (12.08.11)
Sarah has once again made my day and she is correct.. Stop the baby sitting for people who wish us all death.. Everything they do is designed to disrupt and torture the civilized world..They should mind their own business and allow the rest of the world to live in peace.
22. It may just be that I don't hear it every day...
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.08.11)
But I like it when I am in Yerushalayim and I hear the call to prayer (except during Ramadan with the annoying firecrackers). It's a shame they are going to restrict them like that. Maybe just have them turn down the volume? It can be a bit loud, yes, but no need to axe it entirely.
23. OMG - LONG OVERDUE
Noise polution ,   Jerusalem   (12.08.11)
I live in far west Jerusalem and I can still here them all the way over here EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE and obnoxious
24. Finally a bill for disturbing public health....
Anna M Sedda ,   Rome-Italy   (12.08.11)
It was about time someone say something about it....
25. About time they stopped such noise to residents early mornin
EST ,   Miami USA   (12.08.11)
26. To # 5
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem   (12.08.11)
Because churches do not jingle their bells five times a day , and particularly not early in the morning... Some moslems themselves are fed up with voice of muezzin...
27. #2 BEN TA Circumstances change
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.08.11)
When they built the Mosque they didn't have loudspeakers to amplify the noise, now they do Their right to make noise stops at my ear drums
28. #4 eporue, meddling again
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.08.11)
When the Mosques were built they didn't have equipment to amplify the noise There is such a thing as being considerate of your neighbors, they aren't Churches don't ring their bells 5 times a day to call their parishoner's to prayer, Meuzin do it 5 times at full volume IN this day and age, everyone has a phone at home or a cell that he carries with him, they can just as readily receive the call to prayer the way most modern people do, electronically One questions, when are finally going to get your interfering butt over here to do it in person? I truly wonder how many Churches in Saudi Arabia are allowed allowed publicly to call their Christian's to prayer, or ever to oipenly display a symbol of their religion..How about giving a count?? Copts in Egypt can't pray without fear of having their Churches burned or bombed while they're at prayer inside You're a phony like a 3.5 dollar bill
29. Meuzzin noise has been getting louder every year
DEborah R ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.08.11)
We want to live in peace with our neighbors but I fail to comprehend why muezzins have been getting louder and louder every year. I am not disturbed by the noise but I live around 2 kilometers from the nearest mosque. In past years the sound of the muezzin has gotten louder and louder (I don't think my hearing is getting better over the last decade!) so that now I hear it clearly whereas before I did not. I pity those who live nearby! I applaud regulation of the volume of the loudspeakers!
30. 4 or 5 AM wake-up call
Wade ,   NYC USA   (12.08.11)
The Muezzin call is so loud that I have been awakened by it at 4 or 5 AM while sleeping over in Ramat Eshkol and Mt. Scopus, both Jerusalem. I never understood why the mosques should be allowed to do this. Would they allow blaring Hasidic music at 5 AM anywhere in Israel? or adjacent to an Arab community? Now let's see them enforce this long overdue regulation.
