1. I'm very happy to hear that this excellent scientist gets
Swede ,   in Israel   (12.10.11)
the royal treatment that he truly deserves - from my countrymen, who are not always well informed about the situation that we are living in here. Well done Israel, and well done Sweden!
2. WELL DONE SIR
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (12.10.11)
3. Now if an Israeli could win one each year...
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.10.11)
that would be proper. A country like Israel has no excuse for not getting at least one prize in one category each year. The current rate doesn't reflect Israel's academic potential.
4. Wow.
Birdi ,   Israel & proud of it   (12.10.11)
Israel has won 10 Nobel Prizes so far. So very proud of Prof. Shetchman.
5. Congratulations on a well deserved
meghan ,   israel   (12.10.11)
recognition and thank you for allowing us to hold our heads high as once again another Israeli is honored with a Nobel prize. May your work continue for the good of mankind.
6. Well done, Daniel, but...
Nachum Ben Daniel ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (12.10.11)
... why didn't they give you the prize in 1982?

10. Congratulations and thanks for speaking about education.
Michael ,   California, USA   (12.10.11)
I don't know for sure, but let me guess: the dear Professor was not educated in Israel and his work was not funded with Israeli research grants. But this is celebration time for Israel and definitely not an occasion for bringing up weaknesses and negligence.
11. A wonderful personal achievment
Raptor   (12.10.11)
and an amazing achievment for Israel. I would like to hope that this line of success will continue but Israel is on a path of regression and darkness. Very sad.
12. Hey Salma: "promote education, rational thinking& tolerance"
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (12.10.11)
Wouldn't it be just grand if the Palestinians would "promote education, rational thinking and tolerance"?
13. tolerance is crap
Bernie   (12.10.11)
political correctness is crap - shut up and stick to your lab work.
14. @10
(12.10.11)
actually, you are totally wrong. professor shachtman was born in israel and received all his degrees in israel; bs undergraduate, masters and finally a phd from the technion university in haifa. prior to spouting, read the actual facts about this wonderful israeli scientist. he later on and on a part time basis worked both in the usa and mostly continued to research and teach at the technion with otehr israeli scientists in israel. dr. israeli bejamin shousteff weitzman institute israel

in human science it was difficult to tolerate in absence of justice
17. #10 -
split ,   US   (12.10.11)
Not one of those 10 Nobel Price laureates was born and educated in Israel. Prof. Shechtman was awarded for his work at the Aerospace Research Labs at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio, where he was a part of a team.
18. #10 & 17 here's some Israel sweet grapes 2 go w/ur sour ones

19. The Price of a Nobel Prize..
Edithann ,   USA   (12.11.11)
As # 17 said...all educated here, and all paid for with American Tax money.. It's convenient for Jews/Zionists to take collective pride in one of their own.... It's only inconvenient and Anti-Semitic when others say there's no differences between any of them..... TATA
20. # 17
Birdi ,   Israel & proud of it   (12.11.11)
Wrong again Split. Prof.Shechtman was born Jaunuary 24, 1941. in Israel. I suggest you use a search engine for truthful facts before you sprout nonsense
21. #19, so are you saying...
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.11.11)
that each of them was educated at a state university on some kind of... I don't know, government scholarship? Sure wish the government paid for my college. Did they pay for yours? I think even back when these Israeli Nobel Laureate fellows were in university (50's and 60's, maybe earlier) you paid your own way. Granted it was a lot less in those days, but still. I'm not really seeing how American taxpayer money had any hand in it seeing as most decent universities (with the exceptions of UPENN and the UC's) are all privately-owned. Could you please explain?
22. #20 - There was no Israel in 1941 ,...
split ,   US   (12.11.11)
23. Henry - UPENN is a private institution....
Dan ,   Israel   (12.11.11)
UPENN = University of Pennsylvania (in Philadelphia)
24. I hate to say it by the way, but his name means...
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.11.11)
"worse one" in German. Glad to see the name doesn't stick!
25. @23, you're right, whoops. Oh well, further proves my point.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.11.11)
26. 24 Henry,please give your referencies

28. Michael,be careful..lashon hara ...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.11.11)
is harming your once brilliant brains. Focus on building your own life, don t waste your precious time.Come on Michael,it is not to late.Do that. Because you are worth it.
29. #26, nor have I....
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.11.11)
I looked up "schecht" on wordreference which uses the Oxford-Duden dictionary, but it did't come up with anything; however, it showed what Google Translate (which is okay for individual words) said and that said "Worse" though "schlechter" would really be worse. I have never heard this word schecht before.. Then again, I've only studied German fora year and a half. Man is straight forward and means one (Mann is man). The phrase worse one doesn't exist in modern English either.
30. 29 I googled schecht in german...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.11.11)
and received results for schlecht.
