1. to end it Assad needs a safety line
zionist forever   (12.12.11)
As much as I cannot stand the man its not in the interests of the region for Assad to be toppled because we don't know who will replace him, what will happen in Syria or how it will affect surrounding countries. Assad goes will we get a radical version of the Muslim Brotherhood who don't have to keep the US happy ? Will Hezbollah carry out a coup and take over run the country for Iran and have access to the entire Syrian military machine. Will there be civil war Alawites v Christians and Sunni Muslims? What will the palestinians do, there are 500,000 of them living in Syria currently controlled by Assad but give them freedom will they become Israel's new Hamas in the north. The idealists say yeh get rid of Assad we can have democracy, Syria will be another Egypt but fact is toppling Assad is no guarantee of stable democracy but it does vastly increase the chances of war between Israel and Syria or Lebanon.
2. I think I speak quite honestly for much of the world when I
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.12.11)
say "We don't care! It is more important to focus on Israel oppressing the poor weapons makers of Humus! Forget Syria!" Well, I, myself, actually do care and wish people would focus more on Syria's problems than playing the old game of kick the Jewish State....
3. #2 Henry from New York
Devorah   (12.12.11)
You sound exactly like Sarah B in a jockstrap.
4. Take note that Russia and China
Stephen in New York   (12.12.11)
stand with Iran and Syria (vetoing Security Council Resolutions and providing arms and intelligence). That Russia and China choose this path demonstrates that both are enemies of the West in general and the US in particular. I expect the next president –who will be Gingrich- to ponder the implications of that and take the appropriate actions to begin over time to respond. I don’t pretend to know what those actions will be, but I see a festering problem that threatens us all and is only getting worse.
5. Proof the UN is useless, obumma is useless.

tom ,   tel aviv   (12.13.11)
today, we in the "west" pretend to care about the poor, downtrodden souls of the barbaric, Islamic world. So we pay some folks to keep the tabs on the victims and we publish them as material for debate: WHO CARES ?! We know what's coming after Assad, we don't know his(their) names but we know WHAT it is....
7. Thousands dead does not bother progressives.Too busy
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (12.13.11)
ganging up on Israel. Seemingly their only problem in life, one wonders why.? They obviouly regard Arab life as cheap unless it serves their purpose to cry horror.. The same mob that said nothing over Darfur or murder of minorities in Pakistan and Indonesia. etc etc
8. Never mind that!h

way to go. In both cases, for the most part, the world has been standing by and watching the slaughter and the cry of the children, and mostly doing nothing....
11. #3, firstly, I would never wear such a thing, and...
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.13.11)
I think it is a good summary of how the world thinks. Everyone is beating up on Israel much more than Syria, even though Syria is where the actual tragedies are taking place.
12. @ #3 Devorah
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (12.13.11)
Yes, Devorah! And your post is constructive, why? No one cares for what happens to the poor Syrians. It’s very simple and obvious. Please stick to the subject instead of giving your personal insults. We certainly don’t care for that.
13. Nothing changes
bernie ,   usa   (12.13.11)
As usual the United Nations is useless. The world watches just as it did during Hitler's extermination of Jews.
14. Wasn't it just 4,000 a week ago?

in case you didn't know, both russia and china treat their citizens very similarly to syria's rulers.

not one un resolution against syria not one "unbiased" investigation by international court. yet, when it comes to israel, all hell broke loose at the un after the cast lead operation.

Yonatan ,   Yerusalem   (12.13.11)

They where jews, the Assad is worse than HITLER
19. #11 Henry from New York
Devorah   (12.13.11)
That is my point exactly. I could not agree more, with you, Sarah and other posters here, than the world does not care about Syria and does nothing but bash Israel. The way you presented your comment reminded me of Sarah. That's all.
20. #12 Iranian Jew and Sarah
Devorah   (12.13.11)
It was not intended to be an insult to Sarah. Please read my comment to #11 Henry from New York. Sarah, your comments are very in-your-face, and I like that. If I offended you, please accept my apology.
21. The Arab and Islamic dilemna
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (12.13.11)
Many have charged (appropriately) that the Arab and Islamic society is unable to police itself. We continuously hear that the Arab world prefers no "Western Influence". This is fine, until atrocities persist, and nothing is done. This is a real watershed event; can the Arab community intervene to protect its own people? Moreover, will it? It is long overdue, for the Islamic community to prove, decisively, that Islam and Atrocity don't necessarily go hand-in-hand!
22. 5,000 Butchered in Syria but Navi Pillay condems Israel!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (12.13.11)
The UN and its subsidiaries, which are basically "slush funds" for those at the top, should be shut down. It is nothing more than a pawn in the hand of Putinist Russia and totalitarian China!
23. @19,20 Sorry Devorah, I meant well. I'm just daydreaming.

25. #19, ah, alrighty, I understand, but next time, leave out
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.13.11)
the part about the strap. It may have been a wee bit over the top on my part, but it is true as we all agree.
