1. Well, go home
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.15.11)
I truly am sorry about the plight of these refugees, but they are not Israel's problem. Let them petition the United Nations for relief. Perhaps the U.N. may actually siphon off funds that are designated for the ersatz "Palestinian" refugees, most of whom are phony anyway, or use its vast budget for refugees to provide real relief. Again -- these economic refugees are NOT Israel's problem. They are not refugees, and cannot claim a right of return. They have absolutely no connection -- real or imagined -- to Israel. Let them seek assistance from the agencies that have been created to assist them. And if those agencies do not step up to the plate, perhaps some oversight inhto how they spend their billions of dollars would be in order.
2. i live near the refugees. there is no greater crime because
c ,   tel aviv   (12.15.11)
The crime i hear about is minor- breaking into schools to use the bathrooms. I walk in the neighborhood day and night and never had a problem.
3. The most of these "asylum" seekers are moslems
Yoav ,   Germany   (12.15.11)
so they should better look for asylum in moslem countries. More over, these people are economic and not politican refugees, so we have the same problem with them here in Europe. Israel need to force them leave the country. Israel is to small and have to many problems to selve economic and ethnic problems of some african states.
4. A precedent for Jewish refugees in other countries?
Canadian Dude ,   Canada   (12.15.11)
No surprises, Sarah B. at the top of the list showing her usual disgust for Goyim in general. Well ok, if Israel is only for Jewish refugees, I guess we shouldn't complain about all the Christian countries which refused to take in Jewish refugees during the Holocaust- by the same logic, they were just looking out for their own kind the way Sarah B does for hers.
5. Look at a map
Israeli   (12.15.11)
Israel shares no borders with these countries. They came from Egypt where their life was not in danger to look for work in Israel.
6. they're NOT refugees!
ej   (12.15.11)
that's why they were not granted asylum status. They are here for economic reasons, we all understand that, but we are NOT obligated to allow anyone into the country because they don't like living in their home nations!
7. #2: That's becasue you have low standards.
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (12.15.11)
8. I cannot get a doctor in Rome,and I am not a refugee!!!
Anna M Sedda ,   Rome-Italy   (12.15.11)
I am from one of the Italian regions and cannot get a doctor in Rome if I do not work....I am not Somaly,if I was there are plenty of doctors for infiltrators....funny but truth!!!!! An Italian cannot get a doctor in Rome and illigal immigrant pretend from other countries all services..quiet arrogant, they are not refugees....
9. These are not "refugees"
Scott ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (12.15.11)
Let's stop the political correctness & address the facts - these are economic migrants & infiltrators, not "refugees". Refugees are people that have been expelled, or fled for their lives because of persecution. With the exception of some refugees fleeing Darfur, this is not the case with most African infiltrators. Being poor does not make you a refugee. I understand the motive for them wanting to make more money, but sneaking in & breaking the law is wrong & cannot be tolerated. Even if they have been here 20 years, all those that entered the country illegally must be deported.
10. Try Holand, Spain, France, Germany, USA, etc.
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (12.15.11)
11. Charity does begin at home
Ricky ,   U.K.   (12.15.11)
What this looks like you whities(no pun) got some problems especially Israel these black people have been running in and out of Israel before Israel was Israel, old habits are hard to break, and Sarah B. how bout letting some of these refugees/infiltrators camp out at your pad in Israel, it'll go well with lightning that load of bad Karma you got coming your way.LOL
12. African Refugees
American ,   Los Angeles USA   (12.15.11)
If these refugees receive a VISA that prevents them from deportation (as the article indicates) they receive much more than Latin American immigrants who come to the US illegally. They also receive a wealth of social services---and they DO work. So let's focus less on criticizing Israel and more on encouraging solutions.

I agree 100%. Sarah B must be a very egoist and arrogant person. Such people disgust me.
14. To: No. 4
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.15.11)
Your analogy is inapposite. The Jews were trying to stay alive in the countries which had been their home for countless generations. They did not constitute an economic burden to anyone. They did not constitute a social burden to anyone. That countries (such as the United States, Canada, Cuba and many Latin American states) refused to allow Jewish refugees who managed to get out of Europe and sailed to what they hoped would be a safe haven is on YOUR head and YOUR conscience, should you have one. I remind you further that there was no United Nations at the time, and no agencies in place to take care of refugees. Finally -- are you so poorly educated that I must point out that the Jews of Europe were fleeing for their lives? The Africans who illegally enter Israel are just looking to make a buck and send it home -- they have no interest in Israel, no desire to participate in Israeli society; their interest is exclusively pecuniary. A little different, don't you think?
15. Response to #6
JP ,   Boston, MA   (12.15.11)
How can you claim they are not refugees when 88% of them are from Sudan and Eritrea and are not given the opportunity to even submit a request for asylum? They are automatically granted temporary protection and are prevented from being deported but their cases are never reviewed. Why exactly would the Israeli government do that? Because those fleeing from Sudan and Eritrea are RECOGNIZED REFUGEE POPULATIONS worldwide. According to a UN report in 2008, 96% of asylum requests filed by Eritreans around the world were granted. In Israel? none. Those numbers just don't add up.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.15.11)
The people to which you refer for the most part have never ventured more than 20 miles away from their village for millennia. Predictably enough, you know nothing. Best to stay quiet. Of course, you are welcome to open your home to all the illegal aliens you want.
17. Response to #12
JP ,   Boston, MA   (12.15.11)
I think instead of comparing them to "Latin American immigrants who come to the US illegally" perhaps we should compare them to people to come to the US from the same African countries and seek asylum. As someone who has worked with this population in Israel and now works with this same population in the US-- asylum seekers, predominantly from Africa. I can tell you that the treatment they are getting in Israel is a complete failure in comparison to what they get in the US. First of all: ALL OF THEIR CASES ARE REVIEWED. In addition, in Boston, where I work, they are eligible for Health Safety Net, public health insurance. They are allowed to apply for work permits, with no restrictions on them, 6 months after filing for asylum so they can sustain themselves while they await a decision and while the process here in the US is often very delayed and can sometimes take a few years, it certainly never takes 12, like it has taken for Oscar Olivier . And after they are granted, they can even have a path to citizenship and can actually begin to rebuild their lives and unite their families.
18. To: No. 15
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.15.11)
Well then, why doesn't the United Nations look after them? And why should it become Israel's responsibility? Let the United Nations do its job. These illegal aliens are draining resources that should be spent on Israeli citizens, many of whom are elderly, ill and live on small fixed incomes.
19. To: No. 17
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.15.11)
The United States is underpopulated. The U.S. has enough room to absorb every asylum seeker in the world. Israel did its share. Israel took in Jews who survived the concentration camps, Jews who were unceremoniously and precipitously expelled from their homes in Arab and Moslem countries, persecuted Jews from Kai Feng in China, persecuted Jews from India (B'nai Yehuda), persecuted Jews from the former Soviet Union and persecuted Jews from Ethiopia. Israel has done more than enough. If Oscar Olivier is unhappy with the length of time he has waited, he is welcome to go elsewhere. Boston comes to mind.
20. Major difference in circumstances
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.17.11)
Jews were fleeing for their lives, Africans are seeking jobs, their lives aren't in danger
21. To #18
Ben ,   Tel Aviv   (12.19.11)
Israel pays for very little of their care. Most of their support comes from the UNHCR, Doctors Without Borders, and the Red Cross. That Israel isn't reviewing their cases is in violation of UN treaties that Israeli voluntarily entered into. If Israel doesn't want to care for them, then Israel needs to withdraw from the treaty.
