31. GOOD JOB MS. TANYA !!!
HINDU ,   USA   (12.18.11)
I salute this lady for standing her ground. Why could this man not have stood like a gentleman, instead of trying to make this lady get up? Hope the rift between the religious and the secular in Israel does not get worse, but sane elements on both sides work to heal the rift.
32. Freedom of choice
Freedom for all ,   Baltimore   (12.18.11)
Very inspired by your true article and commend you for standing up for yourself and your beliefs. We need more people to stand up as you do. Then and only then will we all have freedom of choice. I hope all people will stand up for "freedom of choice" as you did and not cave in to move to the back of any bus. Thank you Tanya.
33. Years ago, Israel WOULD NOT allow the charadi to operate
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.18.11)
their own buses, that would have competed with Egged. So now, let the charadi own and operate their own busses with a big sign that says "WOMEN IN THE BACK ONLY, CHARADI OWNED AND OPERATED." The charadi men have to choose to not use Egged buses or keep their mouth shut. Problem solved and the women can sit anywhere on Egged busses or in the rear on Charadi busses, how could anything be more fair? If the charadi can't finance the buses, they can shut up.
34. she was after a story!
yehudit ,   Israel   (12.18.11)
She knew what she was doing. She is a writer that [placed herself in this situation and happened to take a picture of herself in the bus? She went in with an attitude to get a story and make a statement. Journalism usually tells both sides of the story. How about asking others what they saw to happen!
35. bus 451 services the Chareidi public
Leah ,   israel   (12.18.11)
She was looking to make a statement
36. Kol HaKavod
Eli ,   Ramat Beit Shemesh   (12.18.11)
Thank you for being so brave, Tanya. The chareidim who behave like this have made themselves a very big problem, and impose unfair burdens on the rest of us (even the religious) who simply want to live life and enjoy our country. I am sorry for your experience, and I hope it is the catalyst for the police/courts/citizens to finally fight back in a serious way.
37. So now what do we do?
Veronique ,   Israel   (12.18.11)
38. haredi bus - to #35
jo moor   (12.18.11)
Maybe you are right......the bus must be the filthiest one in town. For hygienic reasons it needs to be segregated. What absolute utter sh one t this whole concept is all about. Maybe its good for hareds to be confined to an area. locked up and left alone to sort out their issues with the rest of homo sapiens.
39. No 27 ...off to Norway
jo moor   (12.18.11)
Cant think of a better place for them. There is also an exciting island there where they can be really isolated and get up to their anti-social tricks.
40. to Sam at #22
jo moor   (12.18.11)
Halooooooo. this is 21 century. Just remember: wanking is the new capital of China. You go get a life with your pre-historic views
41. back of the bus
Alan Altmann ,   U.S.A.   (12.18.11)
Despite archaic attitudes among the Haredi and others, we must forge forward, and bring even the religious with us, even if they are kicking and screaming. Bravo Tanya and thank you. As the father of two daughters I thank you.
42. #25, those details weren't in the story, so where did you
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.18.11)
hear about all that?
43. #17, it's best to stay in Tel Aviv and the North, you don't
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.18.11)
need Jerusalem to have a fun time in Israel! :D
44. Segregation in buses was BANNED
Charles ,   Petachg Tikva   (12.18.11)
by the High Court , is UNLAWFULL .
45. No comment from Sarah B?
(12.18.11)
How surprising
46. I am very proud of women like you!
Angela ,   Modiin   (12.18.11)
You just have stand on what you beleive it's right. My daughter, 16 years old, has faced similar surrealist situation on the bus from Jerusalem to Modiin, the bus carries on to Modiin Elit (haredi area), and she also didn't give up sitting in the front seat of the bus. The haredi gentlemen that don't agree with women sitting in front of them, should consider or buying their own car or going on foot wherever they have to.
47. Education problem ni these yechivot
Bernard ,   France   (12.18.11)
These guys teachers should be sent to derekh erets schools to learn what is freedom of others.
48. MRS./MISS T. ROSENBLIT.
SJOERD RUURD VAN DER ,   MULTIVERSE   (12.18.11)
TANYA ROSENBLIT HAS IN THAT CASE MY SYMPATHY AND I WANT TO WISH HER A LOT OF SUCCESS.
49. No 31
jo moor   (12.18.11)
Well said. The chemistry between oil and water is a tough nut to crack. But then soap gets in your eyes and blurrs your vision!!
50. I always thought ladies go first. That would mean the men
Rivkah   (12.18.11)
should sit in the back of the bus. It is a safer place to sit near the driver and I tried to sit as close to the driver whenever I rode the buses in Israel or America, except when that was not possible. I would think the godly males would want to be a good influence on the females of the world by sitting next to them and letting some of the majesty and spiritual highmindedness permeate the air around them. Rabbi Yehoshua did not distance Himself from Mary Magdalene. He delivered her from the demons that caused her to sin. Then she could be a woman of HaShem's realm. It is possible for the males to become infested with demon influence if they are not careful about their diet and obeying the Torah. But having sex with women who are not their wives and saying that is all right because a small hole is cut in a white sheet between them as the Talmud allows, is hardly righteous and I can assure you is not approved by HaShem.
51. Why did Tanya Rosenblit use a MEHADRIN bus ?
Miriam Woelke ,   Tel Aviv   (12.18.11)
The bus Tanya Rosenblit was using, was a haredi MEHADRIN bus. At the moment I get on such a bus, I know exactly what to expect. Tanya Rosenblit, however, was rather looking for provocation and headlines instead of a regular bus to Jerusalem.
52. High court has declared bus segregation illegal
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.18.11)
53. They're fanatics I tell ya
Stas B. ,   Israel, Netania   (12.18.11)
In 20 years from now, they'll be stoning girls in immodest dress.
54. Kol Hakavod Tanya!
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.18.11)
Despite some of the spiteful comments above - and especially from the person that said she didn't even read the article! - all I can say is Kol Hakavod Tanya! The Haredi attempt to force all of us to live according to their lifestyle is unacceptable. Egged is a public bus company. The courts have ruled time and again that segregation of genders on a public bus are illegal. Foreign residents: We live in Israel. Please don't compare us to the extreme Islamic countries that surround us
55. Kol hakavod to you! Talented writing!
Vered, Israel   (12.18.11)
56. Tanya Rosenbilt starts her story with talk of respect
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.18.11)
and then promptly shows none to her fellow passengers and the policeman. I dont particularly agree with segregated buses, but when in Rome ... Sounds to me like this woman was trying to make trouble, for the sake of a few minutes walk. She demands respect for her, but cannot give respect to others.
57. Article on seperated Carmiel employment office
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.18.11)
Has got only 2 comments, and both are mild compared to this article. The reason for such a difference in reaction : The Druze asked for the separation in Carmiel, and here it's the Jews. This country is so messed up.
58. Behind Holier than Thou behaviour
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (12.18.11)
Usually covers up some Chillul and Righteous Over the top appearance papers over it. Worship of appearances, uniforms, length of payot, is sadly the driver of behaviour rather than living the Torah way for too many
59. Good for you!!!
dov glass ,   TA IL   (12.18.11)
You are quite brave and courageous!!!
60. Discrimination
Ameridane ,   Aarhus, Denmark   (12.18.11)
We just saw on TV (Denmark's Radio and TV) on the 9 O'clock news how women have to ride on the back seats of buses. The lady reporter asked a rabbi where it is written in the bible that women had to sit in the back of a bus- of course the rabbi couldn't answer her. Also she was prevented from walking on a side walk as it was reserved for men only. When she tried to walk on the other side of the road, the ultra orthodox stopped her. When she pointed out that it was forbidden by law to stop people, there was nearly a riot. The Ultra Orthodox claiming that they could do what they liked) OK- my dear Ultra orthodox, can you tell me what is the difference between you and the Talibans?
