91. Torah never give a receipt
Regina ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (12.19.11)
Scuse those that think that they are the owners of the Torah - Exactly in the Torah we can find many ways for the same question. Even the ten commands are written in a little two different ways. We think that this was to show the importance of difference - those haredim need to know that they are no the owner of the keys - Congratulations for this courageous woman.
92. #86 -- but at the end of the trip....
Naftush ,   Israel   (12.19.11)
they get up separately to organize their things and ... bump! go their tushies through the curtain. The bus company is called Monsey Trails, but maybe Monsey Tails would be more evocative....
93. singing
Nofia   (12.19.11)
Is it true that Tanya started singing and that is the real reason the occupants got angry?
94. spinning lies and propaganda
Oryn ,   Israel   (12.19.11)
I am strongly opposed to the concept of seating women in the back. I think it is humiliating and chauvinist. However, quoting Rosa Parks is just as disgusting, and anti-Israel. Rosa Parks was arrested for not vacating her seat. Mrs. Rosenblit kept her seat, and the man opposed was left off the bus. That is the difference between an Apartheid government and a moral democracy.
95. You are a known provacatuer...
shadoil ,   Jerusalem   (12.19.11)
and I suggest you get a life instead of looking to make issues . People who have meaningful lives don't go around trying to look for their own percieved malfunctions in others. Like I said dear, GET A LIFE.
96. #92 As long as there is no hole in the curtain
Zev ,   Israel   (12.19.11)
they don't seem to mind
97. get a life?
Helena ,   Stockholm, Sweden   (12.19.11)
this is exactly what the Haredi is PREVENTING all secular from - leaving their own lives. Haredi should be stripped off their allowances paid by secular Israelis. They should get their private bus lines and PAY for them.
98. BRING BACK THE SECULAR "SIT-IN FOR FREEDOM RIDERS""
JEWISHNESS ,   AMERICA THE BEAUTIUL   (12.19.11)
TIME TO SHOVE THE HEREDI NONSENSE BACK DOWN THEIR THROATS, AND THEIR ANCIENT RITUALS OF BUS RIDING NEEDS A HUGE SIT-IN OF CENTERED INTELLIGENT SECULAR WOMEN...FREEDOM RIDERS! STOP THE TYRANNY OF THE MINORITY! LET THEM SPIT ON THEMSELVES...IT'S APROPOS!!
99. dear tanya
filshel ,   L.A.   (12.19.11)
You were very brave and stood up for yourself.. We had a song: "Be sure you're right, and then forge ahead." Before forging jnto the fray, don't you have the intellectual curiosity to try to learn WHY these people care so much about men/women sitting arrangements? Has it not crossed your mind that you haven't the slightest notion of what the issues are all about to them? Wouldn't a real journalist want to truly UNDERSTAND the issues from all sides?
100. Ora , seculars made alread MORE than enough
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.19.11)
concessions . Enough is TROP , TEVEEL . I didnt receive the complete Email .
101. missing facts and #97
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (12.19.11)
Missing from Roseblit's piece are some interesting facts. A number of passengers, offended by Rosenblit's singing, language and touching, decided to leave the bus and asked for their money back. The driver refused to refund the money, so the police were called. The police were not called to eject Rosenblit, but to mediate between passengers who did not receive the service for which they paid and the driver. The policeman realized that Rosenblit was making a provocation and politely asked her to help him peacefully solve the problem. She refused. #97: the Haredim want private bus lines, it is Egged that wanted to serve the profitable Haredi lines. People like Rosenblit usually drive everywhere.
102. re/bus seating issue
Kathrine ,   Long Beach   (12.19.11)
...I ride a bus Monday thru Friday and I've noticed we tend to take "our reg. seat". I mean, most of us riders are regulars. Even still, a new rider is not expected to know the "seating arrangement"! Also, I am supportive of the author not moving upon the demands of the old geezers dudes. I would have moved however, to avoid conflict. But those creeps would have earned my complete distain, oh, and my Disrespect for their behavior.
103. It isn't about fear of losing control of their sexual urges
Roger ,   USA   (12.19.11)
That is a sham and a cover. This is all about maintaining a male dominate society. A day or so ago haredi males chased females away from a voting booth.
104. Why
Israel ,   USA, Texas   (12.19.11)
Why didn’t the police man arrest the Haredi man that stopped the bus and brought his 20 friends to protest and intimidate the Lady? , for disturbing the peace. ( In a ruling of January 2011, the Israeli High Court of Justice stated the unlawfulness of gender segregation and abolished the “mehadrin” public buses). The solution to the Haredi extremism is to obligate their state funding schools to teach a curriculum needed to live in today’s world besides their Talmud, or Torah studies. If they don’t want to do it, they should not received, State funding. Also the police and Judicial system should apply the law to those that are breaking it, whether they are Haredim or not.
105. 101 , and what if she started singing ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.19.11)
Is it forbidden to be in a good mood ? Was her song not nice enough for them ?
106. Take it easy
Mark Bebernig ,   NYC; USA   (12.19.11)
I just don't see what's the big deal of complying and sitting at the back. The seats are the same comfortable, and there is nothing offensive with the "back seats"; firstly she should feel herself uncomfortable sitting amongst so many men, all by herself. And by knowing the haredim positions on gender segregation, why tease them in such a small matter? If they chose to sit at the back, would she then still want to sit at the front ?
107. #105
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (12.19.11)
Imagine, you are sitting in a bus. Some crazy guy starts singing at the top of his voice, some frecha screeches on the pelephone, or some ars is listening to some "music" at 100 decibels. After they refuse to show consideration and quiet down, you decide to get off the bus before your destination. Do you deserve your money back? yes or no? Hint: if the singer was a Chabad with a white kippah, you would be asking why the policeman did not arrest him.
108. THE NEW BUS
bernard ,   usa   (12.19.11)
The bus should have two entrances one for the back of the bus, this should be air conditioned with comfortable upholstered seating a bathroom and an area for cold refreshments, travel should be free in the back of the bus. The front of the bus should have plain wood benches, no air conditioning and plenty of room for standing passengers price should be 10 shekels per trip. The driver should be enclosed in his or her's air conditioned cabin. This should make everyone happy
109. maybe someone can explain about singing women..
eporue ,   europe   (12.19.11)
when shabbat candles are lit, the women sings, and males are present... is it now, that (maybe) she turns back to the audience, or is it the song which is permitted, or the occassion ? why is this ok to listen to, while humming in the bus is not ?
110. i always sit in the back
daniel ,   world   (12.19.11)
of the bus. i'm used to sitting at the back of the bus. if not the last row, then at least the second, or third to the last. i'm male. why? i wanna.
111. Nothing Like An Anti-Haredi Story
babawawa ,   new york, usa   (12.19.11)
to garner more talkbacks than anything the secular ever do (corruption, graft, lying, stealing, etc.). I am religious, and probably would have stood my ground with these men just because I don' t like being pushed around. But if a cop asked me to move, I would have moved. In this article, only the cop and the driver were right. Everyone else was wrong.
112. 105 Charles,does she sing always..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.19.11)
and everywhere,or only for Haredi men?

Yay, Tanya!
114. bus incident
Leah ,   australia   (12.19.11)
David's comment re. lack of freedom in Iran, etc. has nothing, but nothing to do with the issue at hand. Who's bus is it anyway? My understanding it is a taxpayer supported enterprise and as such it belongs to all citizens who under the law enjoy the democratic right to individual freedom. Small enclaves of any fanaticism should not impose their views on the individual outside their small groups.
115. MORE AND MORE WE RESEMBLE OUR COUSINS
shrinkDave ,   Miami USa   (12.20.11)
These incidents are becoming more and more common-in Arab countries as women begin to reach out for civil liberties, and in Israel as religious seek to curb civil liberties-of women. A very nice distraction - if you are an enemy of the Jews.

Congratulation Tanya Rosenblit I´m a man, free, worker, married and a father. I say you the next: These ultra radical people live two thousand years ago They are people extremely weak character. need to be in force to impose its idelogia. They most have serious problems of inferiority They hide behind their clothes, their beards and hats as if the body was sinful, and they don,t understand that the laws of God are above those of men. They are hypocrites, because they need women to express their repressed sexual urges, but forget the respect that they deserve. They forget that this same woman who do not respect, is the mother of his children .. Caveman mentality, do not let them see that the more society evolves and the world, stupid religions and beliefs are losing strength. People are not ignorant or stupid as it was five centuries ago. These people need a good lesson for education, manhood, humility and respect for others. Everyone must start to assert their rights. Stop the stupid submission, remember... we are in the 21st century!! If they were a little less lazy and work a little more for the common good, leaving aside his absurd mentality, there would be so much hatred and war.
118. what did she say?!
unbiased ,   jerusalem   (12.20.11)
Your comment defines precisely what you are yourself! All #34 said was you have to hear the other side of the story, ( see #25 ). You couldn't care less what the facts were, "I've made up my mind, don't confuse me with the facts." All these bloodthirsty comments show the true ugly face of people that are soaked with blind hatred only interested in hearing one side of the story. Everyone of you excepts her version as pure facts. Disgusting!!

In 1947 my father and I were riding on a bus from Haifa to Kfar Yehoshua. As we came to the bottom of Haifa we stopped to pick up passengers and suddenly stones rained down upon us with Haredim screaming 'Shabbas, Shabbas." It was long before sundown. Unfortunately, a few and increasing number of fanatics give Israel a bad name. These people whose reputation as leeches on the country precedes them. They are their cohorts in the West Bank will bring this country down if not stopped.
120. #8 Jason White "We"
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.20.11)
Have you undergone a physical procedure that changed your gender The only reason you or I are are here is due to the fact that the Haredim kept us together over the centuries in the Galut, they are the ones that retained a Jewish presence & spirit
