31. #15 spoken like a true useful and racist fool!
(12.22.11)
I'll believe in your "values" only when you prove to us that you completely stopped using any and all products based on Israeli know-how (yeah, good luck with THAT, pal). Until you do that, you're just another pathetic and hypocritical dog, barking at the moon. Oh, and meanwhile you may want to tell us what has been YOUR contribution to humanity, beyond your evident brutal call to genocide.

savo   (12.22.11)
"Comments containing incitement, slander, racist slurs and inappropriate language deemed to violate our terms of use won't be published. " You forgot to add in - 'anti-irish comments from people who choose to believe this bs will be tolerated
33. irish jew hatred
zivron   (12.22.11)
the irish in ww2 alighned with the nazis out of their hatred of the british who in turn deserved theirhatred because they did not help the irish during the potatoto famine of 1845-1849. Despite this the irish refused sanctuary to the children of israel fron nazism as was their christian duty ,
34. Calm down!!
Aidan O'Sullivan ,   Longford - Ireland   (12.22.11)
Must all Israeli artists toe the government line on all issues before they get funding? Surely there is room to allow freedom of expression - that's what democracy is about. There's a need for rational debate here - less blind anger and crude racism. Meanwhile, $119m for one artist?Come on, where did you get that one from?
35. @Reilly.Does taxpayer funding include political activity ?
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (12.22.11)
Contrary to govt policy? Dean is a musical nobody yet gets huge subsidies. Why does this continue when your economy is so precarious and everything else is severely cut back?
36. Ireland cutting back social welfare but pays Dean millions
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (12.22.11)
37. Irish have allways been
arne ,   chicago usa   (12.22.11)
the forebears of anti-semitism here in america. the catholic church 95% Irish hasn't done a hellava lot to change the way it is.We jews have learned to live with it and to be honest we could care less. Israel should also care less they be better served. CHUB M IN TOUCHAS.
38. # 20 'Ireland is the most antisemitic
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (12.22.11)
nation in Europe !!!, Except for the Scandinavians, the greeks, the Spaniards, the poles, and so on,reason, old habits die hard.
39. The Turks...
Max Merbaum ,   Los Angeles   (12.22.11)
Why did Constantinople get the works? It's nobody's business but the Turks.
40. Time to support the Ulster paramilitaries!
Yonatan ,   Los Angeles, USA   (12.22.11)
The Ulster Freedom Fighters, Protestants who support the Jews and our national rights have been fighting the Irish slime for centuries. They believe in G-d and reject the pope and Catholicism. It's time we start arming, funding and training them in their battle against these scumbags!
41. good enough
jerusalem   (12.22.11)
The Irish government doesnt need to, nor is it their right to cut him off of funding. If the guy was found to be supporting terrorist groups or something then that's a reason. It is his free right to boycott and raise awareness of illegal apartheid occupying Israel. And it is ok also for the government to sometimes intervene in people like his' obstruction to events and such. Piss off "source" in the "Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem"!
42. Many driven by hatred despite Pope's rulings
Roland Seener ,   London England   (12.22.11)
44. oh darlin boy at #17
(12.22.11)
Beleive me it wont have any impact if Ireland boycots Israel..(.better stock up on the guinness! ) The reason this Deane fella is getting so much from you taxpayers is disgusting and i dont give a hoot for his politics, but for such a waste of money when your beautiful country is going broke. Man, you should shake up that dead museum you call government house! Slainte !
45. Invade Ireland
Commentator ,   Israel   (12.22.11)
Israel and UK should invade Ireland and bring to them some Zionism. This would solve the problem.
46. Many, many errors
Mark ,   Dublin Ireland   (12.22.11)
Sorry folks. This article is tabloid nonsense. I'm Irish, and before this, I had never heard of Raymond Deane - and there is no chance he is getting $119m from anyone - let alone the Arts Council. That is more than 100% of their entire budget. Please employ a fact checker - you are embarrassing yourselves.
47. Deliberate manipulation
Tomek ,   Poland   (12.22.11)
The title "Ireland funds cultural boycott of Israel" is nonsensical. Ireland funds artists who just happen to boycott Israel. Following the logic of the title, one could claim that a known toilet paper manufacturer supports Taliban because bin Laden used their product to wipe his behind.
48. Facts are wrong
Ciaran ,   Ireland   (12.22.11)
Please Dr. Barr get your facts correct when making statements, about things you know little about. Dublin is the capital of The Irish Republic (Southern Ireland). There is no problems between Catholics and Protestants here. Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland where the trouble is. And the wall is not any where near 25miles long. All the trouble in Northern Ireland is a result of British imperialism and conquest.....Sound familiar Dr Barr??
49. #15

50. Its True
Mose ,   UK   (12.22.11)
This half ased country hate Jews. Do you know they have never had a jew in their government. Believe it or not?
51. Ireland funds cultural boycott of Israel
Sean ,   Dublin Ireland   (12.23.11)
Do people in Israel actually believe this nonsense ?.Ireland is the most anti-Semitic country in the E.U ?.Tell me that this "news-paper" is not seriously telling the good people of Israel that Irish people hate them . We know Israel is having a tough time at the moment but lashing out at a small country because some tiny group of people pull some stunt and then say that Ireland is a hot bed of raging anti-Semitism is simply unbelievable .The comments on this "story" are even more unbelievable .One fool says Dublin has a 25 mile fence separating Catholics and Protestants .And of course we are all alcoholics and our told what to think by the Catholic Church and Irish government . The truth is 99.9% of Irish people couldn't care less about Israel or the Palestinians but only wish that some sort of peace can happen in this world .But reading this article and comments has been a real eye opener for me ,i never knew there was such sick twisted people out there .Peace .
52. Irish support Palestine because they've been occupied too.
Kim ,   Australia   (12.23.11)
Of course the Irish support Palestine, they understand fully what it means to be occupied by foreign military power, who brutally represses their freedom and demand for national determination.
53. intelligent,tolerent make my own mind up irish girl
irish girl ,   ashqelon   (12.23.11)
i am an irish girl living in israel with my jewish/israeli partner. we just had a lovely chanuka evening.i have to say i am disgusted with the level of hateful and racist remarks that i just read. you should all be ashamed of yourselfs that you are so quick to jump to such a low level. shame on you! you all let yourselves down and proved what fools you are. happy chanuka
54. to #50
Dino Domingo ,   Vancouver, Canada   (12.23.11)
you must be an complete imbecil to think a country hates Jews because they have never had a Jew in their government! what kind of an idiot are you Mose?
55. lot of idiots here
Sean ,   Ireland & USA   (12.23.11)
Honestly anyone who reads that article and comes away thinking anything other than "the author is an idiot" is an idiot themselves. Deane gets about €16,000 a year for teaching and involvement in arts projects such as festivals and promoting music by visiting schools. That's hardly enough to live on. You can't tell someone what to think in a political sense, other than getting some funding from a state body he is a private citizen, his private political views are none of the state's business neither is the funding he received in any way connected to his political actions he advocates. Crap like this continues to undermine friends of Israel like myself which in the long run undermines Israel itself. Just as Mr. Deane is a false friend of Palestinians who's actions do more harm than good this article and those who spout racist anti Irish crap in comments here do Israel harm and no good at all. They're having a good laugh on politic.ie about this artical.
56. FAO Its true
Mick ,   Ireland   (12.23.11)
Actually Ireland's Minister For Justice is Jewish..
57. Poor......
Aidan O'Sullivan ,   Longford - Ireland   (12.23.11)
Folks, sincerely..... If this story really did originate with the Israeli DFA, then it's a poor reflection on what seems to be an increasingly hysterical tone in Israeli diplomacy. The amount (finally corrected) given to Raymond Deane over the last 5 years is somewhere between a social welfare income and the average wage and such a modest amount does not constitute an endorsement of his views.  This is a non-story.
58. To "Mose" #50
Aidan O'Sulivan ,   Longford - Ireland   (12.23.11)
Is your brain on holidays or are you just a clever clogs trying to fool the more stupid elements here - which wouldn't take much effort? No Jews in the Irish government ever, eh? Check out the current Irish Minister for Justice? And Defence?
59. Israel doesn't Register...
Don ,   Ireland   (12.23.11)
On the minds of the vast majority of Irish people - I'm sure the same is true for Israelis on Ireland. This article really is OTT.
60. Re# 20
Ray   (12.23.11)
Here''s new for you ... the world should mind its own business and worry about it won state and leave Israel alone as well. Your opinions are direct interference in Israeli matters is not welcomed nor warranted.
