1. He really is trying hard...
Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.25.11)
and I hope more American Jews will recognise this as pandering. but I doubt it. The people of this country are far too apathetic to actually do anything about it. Now if only I could get this kitchen of mine kashered properly.
2. Why not just order in?
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.25.11)
I am sure there are kosher caterers and hiring places in Washington. Waste of time and money.
3. White House Kosher Food
Harold ,   USA   (12.25.11)
As long as the same kitchen equipment is used, the food is not Kosher. I remember a Jewish lady brought with her a kosher knife to cut a Kosher cake.
4. Imbecilles - ? -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (12.25.11)
Do food constitute our relationship with God at all ? According to the Word of HASHEM - " The Covenant between the descandants of Jacob and HASHEM is broken " And - " HASHEM will therefore make a new covenant with Israel according to the Prophet Jeremiah " . Further - If one sinned agaist HIS ordonances, One was to bring a sacrifice of Blod for its covering - so what is greater - The Food or the Blood (Soul) ?. Ceep HIS ordonances as Jews by all means, but dont delude Yourself. Nr 1 seems to have realised this. Arn.Sweden

Henry from New York ,   USA   (12.25.11)
the ability to cater to 550 people.
6. What a pathetic farce
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.25.11)
Who would be foolish enough to believe that there was a single drop of sincerity in Obama, the Chameleon? His motto must be “Anything for a vote”
7. Did they ordered some kosher cigars ?
2Mad ,   צרפת   (12.25.11)
Maybe a reform-ones, as clinton did ?

How nice that they were so careful about kashering the kitchen. While they were at it, they could have checked the actual date Chanukah begins (it's been the same for 2000 years) and appropriate ways to celebrate the holiday such as not lighting all the candles at once on the wrong day because you're going to be on vacation in Hawaii where it's impossible to celebrate Chanukah. I'm looking forward to the White House scheduling the Easter Egg Hunt for a more convenient time--maybe in June when the weather is better?--or deciding that Ramadan goes on for too long, and holding a festive Eid luncheon two weeks before it's scheduled to happen.

14. "The emperor has no clothes"
SCB ,   CA USA   (12.25.11)
For a CIA plant, an unknown senator that has no historical background, a so-called inner city savior who was going to right the wrongs and better the plight of the poor and downtrodden, a 1000 plate dinner for the wealthy and well to do is abominable. 50,000,000 living on the government doll of $150 a month in food stamps as they ship our wealth overseas through gov-corporate fascism. Again, "The emperor has no clothes."
15. This is what tax $$$$ are spent on
Nina ,   NYC   (12.26.11)
I stead of the poor and hungry. Pandering to less than 2% of the population.

18. Obama does all this to buy the Jewish American vote?
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (12.27.11)
While Israel burns and gets destroyed by her enemies? In the event of an Israeli Crisis......who are you going to call???? Why the Emperor and Chief....The Cheese Ball Obama. When the Democratic Jews catch up to this liar and his little escapades to lead the Jews over a cliff like the Pied Piper....it will be much to late.

Last time that I was in the USA, most of the Kosher Butcher shops and Delicatessen's had vanished I noticed that in the supermarket, the cost of Kosher Meat of Chicken was at least twice the cost of trefe, that's why there's only 1 in Washington, many people can no longer afford to keep Kosher
20. So NU, Why not have your own kitchen koshered!!!
Riva ,   Israel   (12.27.11)
Contact your nearest Chabad house/representative! They will go the whole 9 yards. they did for me!! you'll feel the difference with a kosher kitchen...

This article and the talkbacks that follow all don't seem to want to let facts get in the way, 1. Obama is pandering for votes 2. It wasn't "his" kitchen it was the public kitchen in the White House. "HIs" kitchen ( really both belong to the taxi-payers) is upstairs in the personal quarters and it remained as traif as usual. 3. There is more Kosher in the US than every before. 4. Even if Washington DC only has one caterer( I"m not sure) surrounding areas have plenty 5. Free Standing Kosher butchers, like free standing traif butchers have diminished in the US BUT they are part of large Kosher supermarkets. ( fresh meat, just like in Israel)
22. MANY CATERERS...NOT ONE!
Netanya ,   Netanya   (12.27.11)
Searching for "Washington DC Kosher Caterers" brings up quite a few choices. 1. "The Kosher Kitchen Catering Company. Premium catered foods at weddings, bar mitzvahs and to businesses and government agencies" 2. Shaul's Kosher Market 3. The Shalom Group 4. Kosher Pastry Oven 5. Betty the Catere Just the first results shown..there are more! Catering would have been the most reasonable way! Please search for anything you read here or anywhere on the web
23. Washington Kosher caterers
Steve M. ,   Washington DC, USA   (12.27.11)
A quick look at the Rabbinical Council of Greater Washington's website (www.capitolk.org) shows a dozen kosher caterers as well as many restaurants and other facilities in the metro DC area. There is kosher food galore in the DC area, both for residents and visitors.
