1. Spitting can result in serious infection.A serious assault
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (12.25.11)
2. Bail
TSB ,   Clifton NJ USA   (12.25.11)
The premise of the article is bogus. Is bail a rarity in Israel? In the U.S., bail is routine while a person is awaiting trial, unless there is a risk he will flee or that he is a danger to the community. People have gotten bail for far more serious crimes than spitting on someone. Remember, until the person is convicted, he is presumed innocent.
3. Did the man scream allahu akhbar
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (12.25.11)
before he spat ?.
4. If the bail was NIS1,000,000 that would be fine.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.25.11)
Make it burdensome and obnoxious to spit on some and then make bail to wait for trial, not some piddling NIS100.
5. All my Haredi friends in Beit Shemesh sick of these WHACKOS
(12.25.11)
firstly, for doing such disgusting things and secondly, for making us all look horrible. The talk about these "kanai" groups among most Hasidim is met with lots of head-shaking disgust. This is a fringe group of freakos who make everyone else's lives miserable. One of my friends says that she never knows if she'll be able to get back home on time when these whack jobs block bus traffic with their garbage-bonfire hafganot, etc. The normal Haredim/Hasidim can't stand these...."people". A chilul Hashem 100%. Thank you Ynet for including that last paragraph of the article (totally out of character for Ynet -- a surprise that you would be that fair in your representation of Haredim).
6. Spat, or perhaps, vomited-on ?
2Mad ,   צרפת   (12.25.11)
Never saw any young, attractive woman dressed or behaving immodestly in Haredi neighbourhood. It's always some worn-outs, aggressively showing off their hamburger sediments.
7. Provacatuers
Loyal Jew ,   Israel   (12.25.11)
There are MOs and seculars in Beis Shemesh who go into the public dressed immodestly, knowing that there are Jews there who will take action. Even the secular court has to let the Jews go because it can see this.
8. #7 - little girls in long skirts are not provovateurs
orot parent ,   bet shemesh   (12.25.11)
#7 - just how it is that little girls (aged 6-11) wearing long skirts and sleeves to the elbow are immodest provocateurs??
9. Then why....
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (12.25.11)
...don't you more moderate Haredim stand up and condemn them publicly? Not just certain rabbis but whole groups? Because all we seculars hear is about these fanatics who break the law in order to uphold what theysay is Torah law. Make your voices heard and we, the secular community, would be less ready to condemn Haredi as a group. We all know that there are many wonderful Haredim who are law-abiding, believe and support the state of Israel, who work and and help the community.
10. spitting is a waste of court time and taxpayer money
zionist forever   (12.25.11)
Its not nice to be on the receiving end of it when somebody spits on you for sure but does it really warrant getting the courts involved & putting him on trial? By the time this is all over and the court cost, his lawyer, any punishment he gets is handed out the taxpayers will have shelled out tens of thousands of Shekels all because an idiot haredi spat at a woman Doens't make it right but is it really worth spending all that tax money to punish somebody for spitting? There is a problem with a small number of haredi who are becoming radicalized and its the serious stuff that needs the courts need to be spending time and money dealing with not an idiot who spits at a woman. Just give the guy probation and a warning that he won't get off so easy next time and leave it at that.
11. #7 - You're a jerk!! Idiiot!!
Chaya ,   Tel Aviv   (12.25.11)
I saw the woman on the video - dressed modestly to me! And even if she weren't - what gives anyone the right to spit on another person??????????? A**hole!!!
12. yea sure your haredi ,,, thats why your reading a forbidden
naftules ,   Jerusalem   (12.25.11)
haredim DONT READ YNET .. who you fooling and if your reading this its in the dark of night in the closet where your computer is hiding!!! ha ha Haredim are not allowed to read this kind of "filth" your poor mind must be exposed to all kind of horrifying images !!!!
13. Destruction of the state
Beverly L ,   Jerusalem   (12.25.11)
During the time of the Hasmoneans Jews tried to integrate Greek culture into Jewish practices. These extreme Haredis are integrating Wahabiism into their practices. From the women in burkas to spitting. Where are our rabbinic leaders to say that this is the wrong direction and not consistent with our value system. Sinatra chinam caused the destruction of the second temple and the seeds are being swn again.
14. 10 Putting spitter on trial...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.25.11)
is a warning, not only to him,but to all spitters. This has to stop.
15. Seems to me that the law is lacking
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (12.25.11)
Someone should put on their thinking cap and think about how to change a law so that disrespect of another human is illegal and punished. Also perhaps to think about the psychological and social angles. Put these spitters in a group therapy.
16. I will personaly accompany my wife for a visit
Mike ,   Raanana Israel   (12.25.11)
I really want to see if any of the Hardie heros has the courge to spit on her.
17. not unusual
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (12.25.11)
Is there anything unusual in this case that it warrants such headlines? It is not acceptable, but for years this same type of behavior has been acceptable when aimed at Jews. When Jewish women are accosted by Muslim men, does the press write about it? Do people demand punishment?
18. #15: You comment is one of the few sane ones here!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (12.25.11)
Jews spitting on Jews! That is what the Nazis did! Churchill said "Never has so much been owed by so many to so few" but here, with the Haredim, "Never has so much been taken by so few from so many"! As for Netanyahu, promises and words. What people don't realize is that he is following the British way of "Divide and Rule". Netanyahu, Putin, the Late Kim Jong-il, Castro and others will do anything to stay in power even if it results in bloodshed!
19. Spitter released on bail!~
Spencer ,   Israel   (12.25.11)
The courts must desist from going soft on these extremists. These types are the scum of the earth using religion to try and justify their actions.
20. How much was the bail? Will he actually come back to court?
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.25.11)
Or will his sect protect and hid him when he has to stand trial? If mainstream Haredim do not approve of this extreme sect, they must do something about it. Hand the guys in. Do not protected them, even by your silence. As to wasting the courts time, the problem has become too large to ignore just because it costs. It now needs to be dealt with.
21. Disheartening
Lisa ,   Toronto,canada   (12.25.11)
Reading these talk backs is so disconcerting. The hate, anger and generalizations are deeply disturbing. We can have a forum to speak about the ills of society but when it becomes a hate fest we all need to look inside of ourselves to wonder what have we become. Funny how the people who are Condemning (rightly so) this behavior, are showing the same signs of fanatical behavior in there responses as the people they are condemning.
22. #21, Lisa
JDE ,   Boston, USA   (12.25.11)
"Funny how the people who are Condemning (rightly so) this behavior, are showing the same signs of fanatical behavior in there responses as the people they are condemning." What kind of "fanatical behavior" are the commenters here displaying? They're demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice, and that the Haredim, who claim these are the actions of a few extremists, do a better job of policing their communities. Seriously, grow up.
23. Spitting on little girls
Neil ,   Sausalito, USA   (12.27.11)
Is it true Israel allows adults to spit on little girls? If this is true I'll cancel my Israel part of my trip to the Middle East.
24. Why my comments need approval?
Neil ,   Sausalito, US   (12.27.11)
Why are my remarks needing approval? Don't you have Freedom of Speech in Israel?
