1. Is MEretz Also going to complain about segregation in shul?
(12.25.11)
2. Maybe, JUST MAYBE
Ben ,   Gush Etzion   (12.25.11)
If all the MKs who were convicted of rape and sexual harassment abided by these guidelines, just maybe they would not have landed in jail or been disgraced! Maybe if Bill Clinton abided by these guidelines he would not be the adulterer he is today Maybe if Anthony Weiner followed these laws he would not have twittered his "manhood" to a bimbo in Las Vagas
3. Meretz - Left wing imposing their ideas on others
rebecca ,   Modiin   (12.25.11)
Livnat is a voice of reason, balance and tolerance and Meretz cannot stand that anyone does not hold by their views. Thank you Ms Livnat.
4. Salami tactics
Jonathan ,   Jerusalem   (12.25.11)
Of course segregation in state-supported synagogues is not acceptable either - recognise the salami tactics for what they are.
5. A LAWLESS LAW ABIDING STATE
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (12.25.11)
We constantly get bombarded with the terms "Democratic and "law", by our media and Hellenist cohorts. But most of us know that breaking the law and getting away with it is a national past time here and pays off big time. So while our elite keeps on bashing the Haredi and "the settlers", we see a constant decline in law and order due to double standards, corruption , favoratism and protectia, that rule our lawless democratic state. So as long as our courts are political extensions of the ruling elite, we will not see justice in our lifetime, which by the way includes equality for women. Because while we have this media frenzy going on, women here get 30% to 40% less in pay then their male counter parts in the same position. But as soon as the pocketbook is involved we won't here a thing by a male ruled media.
6. For some or many, MKs Shai, Plesener , horo and Gilon
Yitz   (12.25.11)
are extremists. They are extreme traitors whom take sides with Israel's enemies in Europe and elsewhere instead of the democratically elected government by massivepopular vote majority. so whom do labels fir best??? I agree with the posters before me and join them in their insight.

In orthodox synagogues ( not just ultra orthodox ) men & women are segregated, doesn't matter what country your in if you go to an orthodox synagogue there will be segregation. Its only in the reform synagogues where everybody sits together. Your problem is the same as the likes of Nitzan Horowitz and that's your trying to judge the haredi by secular standards just the way your judging orthodox synagogues by secular standards when you object to segregation there. The haredi men and women share the same culture and that is the both want the segregation. A woman doesn't want to sit or stand next to a man who is not her husband anymore than the man wants to be next to a women who isn't his wife. Its not secular culture but both the men and women want the segregation so where is the oppression? What we are talking about is a handful of local buses that run through haredi neighborhoods. The vast majority of the buses on those routes are mixed so its not segregation or you can't take the bus, Both men & women have a choice of do they want to ride segregated or mixed buses. Whats wrong with having a couple of segregated buses for people to CHOSE to ride if it makes them feel more comfortable than the mixed bus? You have got no more right to force your culture onto them than they have to force theirs onto you and until that's accepted then the problems will not be resolved.
8. Meretz proves its tolerance and plurality
Yoni the JEW ,   Jewish Homeland   (12.25.11)
Once again Meretz proves its hypocritical stance as a a tolerant pluralistic party that only tolerates others who shares their beliefs. Liberal to other liberals only
9. #3: Livnat is supporting Apartheid!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (12.25.11)
In South Africa it was to separate Whites from Blacks. In Nazi Germany is was "Judenrein". In Poland it was called Ghettoization. In Israel is is discrimination against women - 50% of the population without whom there will be no future generations! You talk about tolerance. Why don't you and the other Haredim practice what you preach? You want all but give none and blame the left, whom I deplore for their hatred and delegitimization of Israel. Time to look in the mirror and look at yourself and see what Judaism is really about!
10. segregation
Ed Codish ,   Pardessiya   (12.25.11)
Women do not have to attend a segregated synagogue. They do have to get from one place to another by public transport. Livnat's remarks about tolerating segregation in Haredi area is valid only if not a single woman objects. Were this ever the case, we would never hear about it. Ed Codish
11. segregation in Shauls
jack ,   israel   (12.25.11)
It is time to adopt the way liberal or conservative congregation go to Shul, and they are also JEWS.
12. - An Invented Issue -
Rube Vogel ,   jerusalem   (12.25.11)
There is no issue here. There is only the desire of the left to interpret and inflate it into something that it isn't and the willingness of the media to supply the stage. The Haredi community is one of the biggest consumers of bus services. They have demands that reflect their lack of respect for men - not women - for those buses that predominantly service Haredi neighborhoods. This is simple free-market economics where imposition to non-Haredim is zero, unless you are publicity seeker looking to make a stir.
13. Haredi men
Anshel ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.25.11)
Some of the hared men don't even recognize the State of Israel, Therefore, why the ministers, public officials should even contemplate to give in to their unreasonable behaviour. IF THEY DON'T LIKE WOMEN SITTING ANYWHERE IN THE PUBLICLY SUPPORTED MODE OF TRANSPORTATION, PLEASE LET THEM WALK with their cellular phones glued to their ears. The "uniform" doesn't make them "better" Jews, nor better and wiser interpreters of the Jewish Law (Halacha). I can't imagine that the haredi men would make a scene on the a bus running on Bathurst Street in Toronto, or in Brooklyn, New York. They would be promptly thrown off the bus. Israel is not Iran, nor Saudi Arabia, it is a homeland of all Jewish people, no exception.

Zionist forever   (12.25.11)
Have you never heard the saying the customer is always right? Both the Haredi men and women want segregation on these busses because it's the culture they both share, it's not oppression or apartheid. Segregation also operates on a handful of buses that service Haredi neighborhoods and even then the vast majority of the busses on those routes are mixed, the segregated busses are optional nobody is forced to ride them. The Haredi pay to ride the busses so as they are the paying customers Egged should provide a segregated service if it's wanted by both men and women which it is. This is an issue that's been blown out of all proportion by seculars and civil rights people judging from a secular perspective and not taking into account that maybe the religious women might actually want this segregated service just as much as the men. It's an attempt to impose secular attitudes onto the religious which nobody has a right to do anymore thane elisions have to impose their ways onto others. This is a county of both religious and non religious and neither group has a right to judge the other and emust accepts just because thy things different doesn't mean it should not be allowed.
