5. navy? why??
DENNIS G ,   NJ, USA   (12.25.11)
when folks all over the world are anxious to hire ex-Israeli soldiers for security purposes, getting the Navy involved in a private enterprise seems a bit out of kilter. Besides, Israeli PR would suffer for sure. There are enough Israeli tough guys (ie, former Shin Bet-niks) for hire who, I'm sure, will know how to put this phenomenon to bed real real quick. and it wont be by making noise back at them, either....
6. Well - some 20mm salvoes would solve the problem....

7. If the mighty Israeli navy can't deal with "fishermen" ...

... one must question their ability to deal with saboteurs.
8. Easy to solve - require fishing licenses for Economic Zone
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (12.25.11)
Israel has the right to demand restrictive fishing licenses for any fishing in its Exclusive Economic Zone. Sell the fishing licenses only to boats that agree as a condition to stay well clear of gas exploration activities. Confiscate the fishing boats of anybody fishing in the Exclusive Economic Zone without a license, as most countries do. Cancel the licenses [and with a massive fine] of any fishing boat that interferes with gas exploration. Israel has charged a fee to companies that explore for gas in the Israeli economic zone, and must protect their rights from interference - licensing fishermen is just a cheaper way to do it that using the Navy. Fishermen who have sought extortion money from the gas companies to "stay away" should be banned from the Economic Zone. Any country would have already done this - somebody is asleep at the switch in Israel for not dealing with this already, as the Law of the Sea allows. Or is the problem corruption by crooked government officials in on the extortion and getting a cut? The article implies that the problem is extortionist Israeli "fishermen". Criminals [crime families?] need to be arrested. If it is foreign fishermen - they have no right to fish in Israel's Exclusive Economic Zone in the first place - where is the Israeli government??? Seize their boats! State inaction is the cause of this extortion.
9. Fishing nets usually cost a fortune. Run fast boats
leo ,   usa   (12.25.11)
and cut them ... by accident. In fact there are many ways to cause costly damage using legal methods.
10. Problem solving
Cameron ,   USA   (12.26.11)
A few of these "fishing boats" suddenly sinking to the bottom of the harbor while docked one night would end the problem quickly. No games to played with craft resting below the waterline.
11. extortionists at sea
joel ,   usa   (12.26.11)
could it be possible that the isareli navy personnel are part of these groups, why are they not doing anything to stop this, ha?
