1. What's next ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.25.11)
Will a "rabbi" come to my house to look at my kitchen ? or if i keep shabbat ? All those acts divide the Israeli people more and more , and make a tolerant Jew to begin to hate those "blacks" . Sad that they did it .
2. Sufganiot
Abraham Nachmias ,   Petach Tikva IL   (12.25.11)
Whoever felt "uncomfortable" could just walk out and eat outside. You know what? I remember other soldiers feeling uncomfortable and being reprimanded because they left! Isn't there one law for everybody or is this another attack against religious public?
3. "Brave" soldiers afraid to ask a question? Absurd! Young
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.25.11)
tough guys with guns afraid of an old bearded guy armed only with donuts and Torah knowledge. It boggles my mind that they could not be thankful someone was so kind as to remember them with donuts on Chanukah. Do they live in Israel or gaza?
4. Soldiers at their base
Tambour ,   Eilat   (12.25.11)
Abraham Nahmias talks out of his backside a soldier on his base should not have to suffer emotional intrusion the idiot rabbi had no business on the base, should never have been allowed in, and he should not have been a weasel and break the conditions of entry.
5. It would be ok and comfortable
Robert ,   NY USA   (12.25.11)
to have someone come and tell you you came from a monkey and pass out bananas?
6. 1Sorry Charles,the Rabbi cannot...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (12.25.11)
come to you next. His shedule is already ful.
7. two solutions
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (12.25.11)
bad solution: force soldiers to participate in entertainment, be it 3d rate women singers or rabbis. good solution: inform the soldiers ahead of time and let them opt out of entertainment they don't want
8. When these people serve....
Lee-Anne ,   Australia   (12.26.11)
Then they will have the rights to walk into a base and teach Torah. In the mean time the only reason they should be near a base is to thank the IDF for saving their asses every day, and to thank the reservists for paying tax and keeping them fed.
9. Thank you Rabbi from a "secular " citizen !
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (12.26.11)
10. Dont worry
Chabad Chassid ,   Israel   (12.26.11)
This is crazy now people are turning against Chabad??? you think they are extremists?? I very very angry about this whole anti religious situation!! Some things are out of control but a Chabad Lubavitch Chassid giving donuts and happiness, so you make a simple bracha on a donut big deal and a story on what chanuka is?!?! This is going to blow up in everyone's faces, and I mean everyone!!!
11. Its the holiday....
(12.26.11)
Are you seriously going to make a big deal out of this? They soldiers are trained to face any enemy and they are not sure how to react to a Rabbi who went out of his way to enhance their holiday. This must be the most ridiculous issue Israel has yet to face. When I was in the army we appreciated when anyone would take time out of their day to recognize the work we did.
12. Rabbi at Army Base
Jeff ,   Ra'anana   (12.26.11)
The hate coming from some of these talk backs is worse than any anti-semite can say! Give the Rabbi some respect. I am sure if an Iman or Priest came to the base, you would not spit out such hate! I am disgusted.
13. #1 Charles - 1st there would have to be
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.26.11)
an Exorcisim before he can check out the kitchen, having seen your behavor during the past three months, evil lurks therein
14. I have a problem with Sufganiyot
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.26.11)
No nearly enough jelly inside American Jelly donuts have much more
15. #5 Robert - It would be appropriate
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (12.26.11)
in your case to take the banana, watch where you throw the peel
16. BS
mike ,   canada   (12.26.11)
From what the pic shows, the soldiers look pretty happy to have donuts, and to be remembered on Hanukah, while the average secular Israeli is more interested in x-mas present and wearing santa hats in tel-aviv then with the story and memory of what this chag is. It would seem that ynet has exploited a conversation between ONE soldier and his family for the purpose of making this article and bending it towards their extreme anti-religious platform. Shame.
17. What's the Big Deal??
Mick ,   Los Angeles   (12.26.11)
The anti-God bigotry is astounding ... if it was a nude belly dancer handing out ham sandwiches all the "offended" people would be screaming "tolerance!"
18. #1 you are very right buddy don't let "rabbis" dictate
raer ,   eu   (12.26.11)
19. Yom Kippur not D'oraita???
Frank ,   London   (12.26.11)
Someone who wrote the article seems to have made a very obvious glitch. Yom Kippur is very much D'oraita. Maybe because he/she knows nothing about Judaism too. It's Purim, in addition to Chanukka, that are D'rabannan. I guess the writer mistook Purim for Yom Kippur, because they sound so similar, lol
20. I'm religious and don't accept this
Avi ,   Jerusalem   (12.26.11)
The army has rabbis, but Chabad thinks that they are exceptional and should be able to go where they want and preach. Absolutely not. I would have walked out- just as I would have walked out if I was forced to hear women singing.
21. How fitting for Christmas
Sara Leah   (12.26.11)
Benny Nachum is part ofthe "meshichist" faction of Chabbad- he believes that a dead "rabbi" is the moshiach.
22. i am so sad to see that a good gesture should be degraded
(12.26.11)
we live in the state of israel, a jewish state! some sufganiot, a torah talk you can accept or not like any other lecture or speech. be thankful not hateful!!! chag sameach
23. If a commander can order a soldier to go to a concert
Mordechai   (12.26.11)
If a commander can order religious soldiers to go to a concert with women singing then a commander can order soldiers to go learn Torah. Perhaps the solution is commanders stick to ordering soldiers to do their jobs as soldiers and let them decide if they want to go to concerts or lectures on their own.
24. He did them a favor!!
Rachel ,   Canada   (12.26.11)
It is Hashem that let us have this land in the first place and brought us back and let us sit there. So SHOW SOME RESPECT TO HIM. (I bet that if you ask a religious Moslem or even a Hamasnik if they would have more respect to Israelis (which they call pigs and monkeys) and if there would be a greater acceptance of Israel if Israeli majority was less secular and more respectful towards their religion ie, NO WHITE STEAK and more respect towards Judaism and not just foreign religions to kiss up to them).
25. Give Respect!!!
Levy ,   Jerusalem   (12.26.11)
If jewish soldier in Jewish army cannot listen to rabbi and give him respect only because he cares an he is respected Rabbi - he had to be out of this army!!! Because evrn goy soldiers give great respect and never gave any problems with this!!!!
26. #7 right on!
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.26.11)
I am what I would consider dati minus AND I COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE! Your "good" solution is the "wise" solution - which is why the Israeli army will never do it!! :-)
27. Slow news day? The headline is more suited for Haaretz.
Neil B.   (12.26.11)
28. Ora , Is there only ONE "rabbi" ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.26.11)
I , either , have'nt much time to loose with such kind of people .
29. 13 , ben [ what ? ]
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (12.26.11)
You still live in the dark middle ages when "people" of your kind believed in exorcism .
30. Seditious sufganiyot?
Yitzhak ,   Israel   (12.26.11)
Oy, what is this country coming to? Maybe the rabbi is trying to kill our fine young soldiers with those cholesterol laden doughnuts? Arrest him! hang him! The seditious traitor! The pusher of well-oiled sufganiyot onto our innocent young men! And they are not even the really good sufganiyot, the ones with chocolate mousse, whipped cream, creme, and nuts. Arrest him for being a cheapskate if nothing else!
